Who do you remember/ honour?
From my admittedly vague memories as a youngster, it seemed that veterans like my pop from WW1 were afforded much more respect. My mom and dad would always serve him and my great Uncle Roy first at Sunday family dinners and festivals like Christmas etcetera. Not sure if was a custom or just gratitude but the deference is certainly remembered. Edit. Went to the morning service today at a memorial on Austinmer beach Nsw. ....on the Pacific coast 100 mins sth of Sydney. Quite haunting standing on the beach with three hundred others listening to the last post in the early morning light. I also allowed my sleepless mind to imagine having to go to war. I'll be honest the thought of it scared me to my core. More so the idea of my son being conscripted. I feel sorry for the current events in Europe. I'll also admit that I didn't know every WW1 serviceman volunteered. Over 400, 000 of them. Some even lied about their age. Having mentioned the level of respect my parents had, I mention my morning attendance because I was surprised how many young people were there. Lots of families with young kids but a fair few sleepy eyed teenagers and 20 somethings that I wouldn't think new much about it all. Very encouraging to see kids like that brace the clock and conditions to commerate the courageous men and women who have served this bloody great country. The reverence for them is still very much alive today. Also thanks very much to those who have shared stories here. Some beautiful but of course some devastating ones as well. I guess there really is no happy war story even for those who returned.

It was woeful because we all know that we can do better than that. To see stars and reputable players kick and handball like many of them did was horrible. Don't agree with Dunstall often but he referred to our team as in a malaise. Although we played better in the last we still looked off. Let's face it, if it was a top eight team the scores would have been reversed. This is a top four team of the last three years. I honestly don't understand how we can play like we have in the previous two games. But last night was much worse than the lions game. How do players like Tracc, Viney and even Lever and Max just kick under no pressure straight to opposite players? I thought Oliver was good despite a few hack kicks. At least he got the ball. Max. Always solid The backline saved us big time. And wowee what a gem we have in Turner. I'm genuinely interested in views as to how we were so bad. The handballing at times was so errant it looked as if nobody wanted the ball. There were over a dozen premiership players from three years ago . It's hard to explain. An anomaly that maybe can't be explained ? You have a good football brain BBO....what happened?

PREGAME: Rd 08 vs Geelong
The irony is if I saw the final score line without watching the game, I would have assumed it was a good win on a big occasion. The reality was the worst game I've seen from us for a long time. Petty is a liability who has struggled to manage seven disposals in eight quarters. Has to be dropped. Sparrow. ...When will he really step up? Someone said Billings was good. He played an ok third quarter but the rest of the game was lackluster for mine. His disposal was like so many players, poor. It's hard though because so many of our players were down including Tracca whose handballs were terrible and Viney who was mia. I can't account for such fundamental errors by so many so often. Players looked like they didn't want the pill the way they couldn't wait to get rid of it. We seriously looked like it was a Praccy fun game out for most of it. Hopefully Bbb can take Pettys spot. Maybe Laurie for Woey. Or surely young k brown a run. It's really hard to not think the cats will devour us. I thought Laurie on was a mistake but he played well. Disco has to be our go to fwd after that. Thank goodness for him. Maybe our midfield will get on its bike and start performing. Although I thought Oliver wasn't too bad especially after he just had an operation. No excuses for the others. I hope Jvr can start marking again too.

That was swill that game. How we won by doubling their score I'm sure I'll never know. From the get go, kicking out on the full, missing set shots, kicking straight to Richmond player without any pressure on the kicker and worst of all the majority of our hand balls didn't go anywhere . I'm sure we couldn't have played more poorly. In the end we banged through some goals with better connection but there was still some sloppiness. How poor are poor Richmond. Petty out for sure. Sparrow too. I seriously think that was one of our worst efforts in at least the last five years. Next week we play an unbeaten Geelong. We are in for a tough time.

I would have been stoked with a 44 point win and doubling their score but I feel somewhat disappointed. In fact very. Our first three quarters were so sloppy. Skill errors like it was happy hour We've doubled their score but I don't feel we are anywhere near top four at all. AT least we've discovered a new fwd weapon in Disco .

I think Goody really needs to sit down with a few after tonight and tell them not to play outside of themselves. To go back to basics if your struggling. And many of them are. Let's be honest. Traccas handballs have gone straight to a tigers player so many times. Petty needs to be dropped. At least we have Disco to play fwd. Sparrow too. And he's certainly not alone. Thank goodness we are playing Richmond who are a poor team . Well probably win by fifty now.
