  1. see story attached. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E20322,00.html I'd love him at Melbourne, and regardless of what is written about, insinuated, rumoured or prophesised the final decision about where he plays next year will be pretty much his alone. I think he is the most influential player in the AFL and I think if he nominated any one of the other fifteen clubs, each would do whatever it took to get him to the club.
  2. Errr I think that maybe a bit harsh. I rate CJ highly which is why I asked the question. (but like the comment above that is simply an opinion - not a fact) Davey needs to find form and his discipline had been ordinary, but I accept that in a side lacking something special, now might not be the best time to drop him to find the footy in a lower grade. TJ was insipid last week, his attitude was appalling and set the worst possible example to the junior players. Rather than make an example of him we let him have the chance to redeem himself. My view is simply that is as weak as [censored].
  3. worse than Trapper and Davey?
  4. Three outs were injuries and the only player omitted was CJ? For people at the game and saw him live was he really that bad? I can understand to a certain extent the theory in sticking with experience, but I think I am going to blow a valve at some stage during the game on Sunday in relation to a couple of players.
  5. Ok I know this isn't strictly about Melbourne, but it raises for me a very significant point about football clubs and their duty of care (if indeed it even exists) http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E20322,00.html The article above refers to Luke Ball missing his second week in a row due to concussion from the head clash with Wheels. There are suspicions that he may even have Odema (swelling) on the brain. Should he have actually have returned onto the field - I'm certainly no expert, but even from a laymans point of view, you'd have to form the opinion at the very least that while it may not have contributed to the end result, you were in fact exposing the player who had been unconcious and was clearly concussed to even greater risk of injury if he had another head knock. Clearly the saints have form for this with Kosi, last year playing when he shouldn't (suggestions were that he may even have been leaking fluid from the brain at the time) Anyway the whole point in raising this is I am starting to lean towards Leigh Matthew's suggestion of only using the interchange to substitute for injured players the way the Rugby league do. (blood rule excepted) I am not sure whether it will lead to a decrease in injuries or not, but it may stop what I believe is clearly a farcical situation where clubs in effect are putting the longterm health of players at risk.
  6. If we win this week, I'll want to know why the hell we couldn't win in the first two rounds!
  7. Not injured again I hope....
  8. I guess the name of the game is winning Cactus, and in that respect, he is probably going to be the least risky proposition to play forward given that he did play about three good games for the cats playing forward. The point is though that maybe one of the younger blokes like Dunn, Bate or CJ - whilst riskier, may benefit from the experience (and selfishly for us supporters give us something to hang our hats on) or that someone like PJ or Jamar who don't look like making it as ruckmen may somehow be converted into a productive forward.
  9. At the risk of pointing out the obvious - because the game plan stinks, because the attitude of some of the players stinks, because we are 0 and 2 at our previously impregnable fortress, because we have lost the only real leadership our team has for the next month, because it's easier to deal with loses when you don't expect to win, and becaue I'm pretty sure my confidence as to whether we will win or not has absolutely no bleeding impact on the final result.
  10. http://afl.com.au/Season2007/News/NewsArti...px?newsId=40949 I don't think either Garland or Newton are ready yet, but I have serious reservations as to whether playing Bizz in the forward line is the right move long term. However, I suppose it's a bit of an understatement to say the coach needs a win.
  11. While it would be nice to draft a dominant CHF, I think the most pressing need is to find another ruckman.

    TJ

At how many other clubs would he still be in the seniors this week. I have absolutely no doubt if he was at the Swans, Lions, Eagles, or Crows he would not be playing in the seniors in Round 3.
  13. He was moved onto Williams after Wheels gave him another charity goal by diving on his back.
  14. Dan, I agree with most of what you say. I love Belly, his attitude and commitment. Like you say he is quick, brave and has good skills. I think not only will he be a solid player for us, he is the sort of leader we are looking for. That said, I am not a fan of playing him in the back line, he goes OK, but I think he would be much better utilised in the midfield as a run with player in the Brad Sewell mould. That's just my opinion - put him in the game and use his assets.
  15. Great I thought he'd be a player for us eventually now you go and tell me he doesn't chase his opponent.
  16. We were lucky with injuries last year, this year we haven't been so lucky. The same player's continue to get exposed however. I am not sure it is a list problem per se... even the worst list in history only turned over eight players, and we are nowhere near that. My view is that the band needs a new conductor, though those musicians playing to a different tune may need to be traded/delisted.
  17. Hawthorn are a long term investment that may never yield. Anyone that sold their Geelong shares based on one poor return is an idiot and deserves to get burnt - even with Thompson at the reigns their list is too strong to slip up twice (they won't win, but they are the best of the second division sides [Vic] IMO)
  18. Promote Yze and drop CJ. While we're at it lets throw Newton in to give Scarlett a work out. The cat's will be [censored] themselves.
  19. I don't think the board would sack Daniher, if we keep playing this way he won't be at the club next year anyway.
  20. medial ligament apparently. Could be anywhere from nothing to four weeks.
  21. It was Darren Milane and Teddy just about knocked him out cold. Milane had stood on Ted's hand and so he got his just deserts and we won too so everyone was happy. That pretty much ended Teddy's career he got a fair few weeks from the tribunal from memory. I have fond memories of John playing in our winning reserves premiership back in the 80's. Huge barrell chest and a very similar approach to the footy as Rhino Richards.
  22. Taken as an 18. Y.O. by Freo with its second round draft pick via the the then VSFL U 18 Eastern Ranges side. I seriously doubt that he played for us as a supp player as he would have been too young and tied to the VSFL comp.
  23. I see Yze being dropped as a step in the right direction. I fear though that Neale has shut the gate well and truly after the horse has bolted. If we win on Monday, I won't be lauding that it was because Adem wasn't there, if we lose I won't be bitching about the other selections. For me and others there are far deeper issues in relation to not only the game plan, but player attitudes.
  24. Unless you have it removed like Daniel Chick's finger or Brendan Fevola's brain. (Fev shouldn't miss too many weeks for concussion )
  25. Geez, If that's true then I am very worried about where this season is heading (but unfortunately also supports what I've suspected).
