  1. I'm not trying to speak for Jaded (or anyone else), but I think the sentiment is that I will be barracking for us to win, but if we don't I will be far less disappointed than I would be normally.
  2. There's very little room for sentimentality in footy these days., however and I know other's will disagree, but if he is going to be delisted, the MFC loses very little in giving Byron the one extra game he needs to complete a very worthy milestone (providing he earns his spot) and gains a lot more in terms of respect, not only from maybe Byron and his supporters, but by the wider footy community.
  3. That works for me as well.... I'd love Judd, but not if it seriously cripples the rest of the list. If West Coast can't afford to pay some of their younger players coming out of contract more money, other's will swoop.
  4. I'm pretty certain that Wheater's dislocated his shoulder earlier in the season, he is clearly inconvenienced by it and it'd be pretty short odds that he needs surgery to fix it properly. I am very, very encouraged by the article and hope that CJ gets a real opportunity to play in the ones to make an objective assessment on. Garland too if he keeps going should be given a crack in his new defensive role.
  5. Neitz, Green, Robbo, Wheatley all played injured. Johnstone I thought was solid and Bate worked his absolute butt off all game. Poor Carroll was the only real tall and struggled to keep up with Lloyd on the lead, otherwise he did what he does well. I'm not sure what you mean about Doggy, I thought today confirmed his future.
  6. Time to put the skipper on Ice for the rest of the year... Bell is out and Green would be doubtful, Wheatley maybe playing for his future, but is clearly favouring his shoulder. Let's hope that the younger guys take their chances this weekend for Sandy.
  7. Not according to the Sandy Match Reports that have him regularly in their best players and refer to him often as being one of the better peformed dees... I'm interested if you watch Sandy quite regularly, because the word from others is that he goes alright, but isn't favored by Neale in the same way Juice isn't.
  8. The following list isn't exhaustive, but it would do as a start for looking at the various criteria (note that whilst some rank coaching experience as a determining factor, it is only a factor, not the factor) 1. Communication. - needs to communicate his ideas clearly, unambiguously and succinctly 2. Decision Making - needs to react and respond to situations quickly by making confident decisions. 3. Motivation - needs to inspire the troops to go over the top one last time 4. Game Plan - must be able to develop a game plan around the strengths of a list. 5. Integrity - must be able to be trusted by those above and below (includes being fair and broad minded) 6. Professional - must engender this through example and demand 7. Self Improvement - must be constantly seeking to refine craft in themselves and others 8. Trust - must empower those given responsibilities 9. Knowledge - must know the game and the role.
  9. Not much more than what is in the season preview guide, but both have their supporters... both have experienced premiership success Rehn as a player, Jonas as a coach and both have done apprenticeships. Peter Jonas: Assistant Coach St Kilda 2001, Sydney, 03-06, Adelaide 07, Senior Coach at Central Districts 98-00 (including their first ever premiership in 2000) Head Development coach for SANFL in 2002. Shaun Rehn: Assistant Coach Brisbane Lions 06-07, Senior Coach at West Adelaide 03-05 (including a GF appearance in his first year)
  10. I think My list is better.: Voss, Rhen, Jonas, Ratten and Kelly O'Donnell. I agree on Connolly, McKenna has some very poor references... Lyon coached the international rules side a couple of times, but has made it clear his future is in the media and Gary O'Donnell is after a football department manager's position.... sloppy journalism IMO.... trotting out familiar names.
  11. I agree with nearly everything you wrote... except I don't understand this... you are talking about Lindsay Thomas aren't you... I don't think he can be traded yet.....
  12. Team Morale.... we're 2 and 9... this isn't about this year anymore it's about next year and the year after. It was clear after Friday night that there was no more that Danner's could do with this group.... What would have been stupid was to have made a decision and sat on our hands for the next ten weeks and waited.
  13. I find this thread a little strange to say the least. I think both the club and Danners have handled the matter with maturity and dignity. I'm bemused you've chosen to use Woey as a comparative measure, It was Danner's decision to trade him in the first place.
  14. I'm given to believe that other's believed this used to be the case, but not any longer.... I've always believed you could swap any draft pick you wanted and certainly priority picks have been traded in the past.
  15. IN: Newton, CJ, Buckley, Dunn, Garland and Whelan. Out: Yze, Holland, Ward, Pickett, Bizzell and Godders. The last two are stiff, but it isn't about winning and losing in 07 anymore its about 08 and beyond.
  16. Pretty sure Bruce signed on during the season.
  17. Godder's nickname is actually Franky
  18. Thank you Wayne, You and Pello were the voices of reason in a sea of banality. Bruce's general field kicking needs work, but he generally spots up targets pretty well, I think his flaw in his kicking is exaserpated when he kicks at goal because he actually tries to kick the ball too hard rather than simply trying to kick through the ball. As you pointed out his kicking wasn't always that bad , and as Pello pointed out, hopefully someone from the club is working on it.
  19. It'd be interesting to see how it'd work. I think you're right in one respect, it'd be a great filip for the local comp here. On the other hand I can't see the side that was picked getting within 100 points of any of the other sides in reality. If we are looking to show case this as the best of the best then clearly the ACT doesn't deserve to be there simply because it is a seperate jurisdiction. It has to be able to hold it's own.
  20. I don't think we necessarily have a dearth of midfielders, as others have already stated, our injury situation makes the situation look a lot worse than it actually is. I don't think it should be forgotten either that midfielders are a lot easier to find in drafts. We've done extremely well in the last couple of years in drafting later picks... We have a number of kids on the list yet to strut their wares in terms of midfield ability Buckley, Neville, Bode, Weetra, Hayes... some of them might make it, maybe none, but the club hasn't been sitting on it's hands. Petterd and Bartram are rippers and there's every chance there will be another one around the corner, if not this year, than next, but for every Ricky and Clint there's two or three others that don't make it. The two key concerns for us are firstly the Ruck... White is starting to come back to the pack, and thank God PJ has come on, because Jamar has not been able to find the ball and Neaves is not ready. That's four ruckman on the list and I think that's about right. It's worth examining though. Most sides have two ruckman in the side. The second ruckman is virtually the apprentice, but some sides are increasingly keeping both on the field rather than necessarily rotating through the bench. I think this will happen with PJ as his value increases in being able to do more around the ground other than contest hitouts. If Jamar goes, then I think we need to promote Neaves and look at another rookie list position or even two. Tall forwards I was a lot more worried about last weekend than this.... If Bate continues to play that role at CHF then I'll be very happy. We have Neita for maybe at least another year.... Will Newton be any good... we've all got our fingers crossed - it would certainly solve the depth problems. People have their doubts on Dunn, but I like him playing deep, but with Neita there it's hard to give him extended runs. Miller is problematic for me, because I love his endeavour and leadership, but he thinks too slowly to be a key forward. Robbo is a monty and the rest are filled in by midfielders. Small forwards are simply midfielders in transition. (with the exception of guys like Farmer, Medhurst, Armstrong, Milne etc - I think they have extremely limited value)
  21. Interesting lists... I'm surprised he actually bothered about the ACT. Bloody Hell most Canberrans born and bred here consider themselves defacto New South Welshman anyway..... Its fascinating, because I reckon a dozen years ago neither the NSW or QLD sides would have had a bull's roar against any of the big three - they now look pretty strong and far stronger than Tassie - that would struggle to beat anyone other than the ACT. I think it's contentious about whether Ricky should actually line up for QLD or for the Taswegians.
  22. Most amphetimines are out of the system within 24 hours.... Which makes you wonder about the Port Adelaide situation and Cousins himself... the rumour doing the rounds was that Cousins was off his face with Chick when they were told they would be tested the next day... neither player fronted for the drug test.... yet strangely no repercussions.... apart from Benny packing his bags and flicking the club the bird.... His family and the club made reference to the fact that he'd had a substance abuse problem since July. Drug testing is seriously compromised, look at cycling... Oil based steroids are detectable for about one month and water based steroids for about a week.... most athletes that are caught are vicitims of their own stupidity because they don't follow the instructions that are given and think they know better or are too scared that it will lead to a tapering of their performance.... There were even allegations that some time ago Eastern bloke countries were developing synthetic steroids that were undetectable - obviously because no one knew what to look for. It's not surprising that players that are using speed, meth, ecstacy or even cocaine aren't caught regularly, I'd go so far as to say the three that have tested positive twice are likely to have tested to something like cannabis... which can remain in the body for up to a month after use. The only answer to try and solve what is a seriously complicated problem is to test every player and test them frequently.
  23. Does the bootstudder asking where he can get a coffee count as advice?
  24. Agree, but why have a different testing regime than every other sport. The suggestion is that he was an adict which means he would have been taking the drug regularly... he didn't test positive... that should be ringing a few alarm bells in AFL house. It also begs a definition of what IN competition means for professional athletes.
  25. My error... Still prohibited though.
