  1. I doubt Richmond hate Collingwood any more because they train close to them..oops, now I've done it.
  2. Pretty tough for rumours to come out after the announcement
  3. I don't think we'll be calling for that Outrageously good finisher is Defoe. Surprised nothing has been said about the Henry situation. Emotion aside, I simply can't see how it can be called "cheating." Any foul would then have to be called cheating - it is not because if it it heinous enough it is given a card. If Henry's had been seend it would have been a card (yellow?). It is poor officiating and again highlights the need for tv replays. The restart in football takes about 1 minute - a video replay would take 8 seconds to watch and then the result radio'd through. It's too big a sport with often too much at stake for these decisions to be missed. What annoyed me about it, however, was that he celebrated the goal feverishly. I don't think that was right. He has now come out and said that he contemplated retirement. Phrased like that it makes it sound like it was years ago and he's really had to come to terms with it.
  4. Absolutely - I'm sure the club would be keen to have some involvement, as there would be money left over to donate both to te club and to the community
  5. The stats HSOG gave had us earning $538k per week less than Collingwood - so obviously our facilities and coaches will not be the best in the AFL. However money does not necessarily make an efficient player managemet set up, but definitely gives you the upper hand and the ability to latch onto new breakthroughs or training ideas IMO.
  6. Perhaps they have a second tier membership system. Seems similar to EPL the way it is though - and that seems to work pretty well for the teams (if not for the fans)
  7. Statsguru - yum. Lucky I didn't have interned in my preteen years, I'd have been on that site all day every day. Vettori, what a cricketer - though I think he's been dropped...a few times
  8. I'd say realist should apologize, but it seems as though his apologies would be going to an Arsenal fan, so it's not necessary. I think our midfield will be alright - but as you say it's a fair way away from knowing. Moloney I rate but needs to keep improving. Sylvia may move into the midfield but still needs to cement his consistency. Green will probably have to stay in the middle save an explosion from the youngsters. Jones looks to be a decent-good player (many seem to forget how good he is) Grimes looks to be a gun though is still very young and we haven't seen much of him in the middle. Blease - who knows? Maric - who knows? Bennell - who knows? Scully/Trengove - who knows? I think at face value there appears to be a lot of potential with our mids, but I feel like I've been saying that about Melbourne players my whole life - injury management and player development seems to have crippled all future aspirations at various stages.
  9. I wonder if the club would consider linking with a travel agent to offer supporters a footy trip to Yuendumu?
  10. How would people have felt about a straight swap Mclean for Ball?
  11. Hey, hey! I'm not as think as you drunk I am
  12. I'd love to see more of the community
  13. Without veterans, the list would be 38 plus 8 rookies - two of whom would be "nominated" and able to play - as seen here. Anything else?
  14. Here we are friends. Total matches played: 713. W: 332. L: 186. D: 193 Win percentage: 46.57 Matches Australia have fielded first in: M: 342. W: 152. L: 97. D: 91 T:1 Win percentage: 44.44 Matches Australia have won the toss and fielded first in: M: 76. W: 40. L: 20. D: 16. Win percentage: 52.63 You'll spit chips over this one I reckon. Matches Australia have won the toss and batted first: M: 281. W: 137. L: 71. D: 71. T: 1 Win percentage: 48.75 Yes, Australia's winning percentage is lower when winning the toss and electing to bat first than when we have elected to bowl. Furthermore, since 1990 Australia have elected to field 23 times for 17 wins, 3 losses and 3 draws for a win percentage of 74. Winning the toss and batting has yielded a win percentage of 56 in the same timeframe. Now I'm not saying that you should always bowl first (along the lines of the drink driving joke posted in another thread) but I think it's pretty clear that if a pitch seems suitable to bowl first it can be exploited to great effect - and possibly that pitches worth batting on first are far more likely to lead to draws. In the 2000s, winning the toss and batting has yielded us a 68% winning percentage (28 from 41), bowling first has resulted in wins 91% of the time (10 from 11)
  15. You may nominate two rookies to play on the main list if you don't have any veterans or 1 if you have 1 veteran. Not to mention Davey will be eligble at the end of this contract. Oh, I forgot, (insert smart arse comment)
  16. I could ask you the same thing, but I won't waste my time.
  17. Do you regard yourself as a Melbourne supporter?
  18. 2.7 + 1.5 = 4.2 So there's 300k unaccounted for
  19. Something must be going on. Surely Ball either a) realises that he can't get to Collingwood and should consider talking to other clubs to at least determine some grounding for when he is drafted, B) has been told he will get to Collingwood, c) has worked out something with another club that we have not heard about or d) I have no idea (which encompasses a-c but is more explicit).
  20. I think one of the most crucial elements of a Premiership winning team is to have a solid and settled backline. At the moment I don't see Rivers fitting in there. Obviously there are many examples of teams with variations of defences and that's fine, it's just not my preferred backline situation.
  21. Rivers isn't in my best back 6. Adding a player who could possibly slot into our best 6 would only put his spot further into jeopardy IMO.
