What do you want to happen to our season from here?
Jarka replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
1. Win as many games as possible to give us the spoon. 2. Richmond & Carlton both get more than 16 points thus losing a PP. 3. Drafting the best kid in the draft 4. Luring a talented youngster away from another club in the PSD 5. Building a team for the future. Doesn't have to be in that order. -
McLean has been good for a number of weeks now, he's been on of our few shining lights in the midfield.
-
I've been negative towards him but I still realised at the time that he is our only real current option for CHF and didn't call for him to be dropped. The three things about his game that I disliked where the fact that he continually ran out to the wing (and beyond) to chase kicks, his lack of contested marking and his lack of goal kicking. All three things he's been guilty of over the last 3 years but on the weekend he turned it around, much to my surprise, and I have to admit that I didn't think he was capable of it. Now his challenge is to continue with this form. He has set the mark for himself to aspire to, and not just for the odd game, but every single game he needs to work that hard and push himself. If he lapses and falls back into his old ways then it will be all for nothing.

Yeah, I was going to post the same thing, I thought he was very good and he is well and truly back to his best form. He should definitely play in the game coming up this weekend.

Only a fool will try to argue with a fool.... It says more about those who try to take Y_M on than Y_M himself, because as soon as you hit [reply] then he's won.

/agreed, it's still nice for the team to get some confidence though. They've had a taste of what it feels like when it all clicks which will hopefully give them the urge to work harder and improve themselves. It's still going to be a very long year and I'm still expecting a bottom two finish because not every side will completely fall apart like Freo and apply no pressure at all, but it's nice to have something to smile about.
-
Nah, no need for the suit. Need to give credit when it's due, he played well, hopefully this will spell an end to his need to run past the wing to get kicks.

Rule Number 1 - Never trade your first pick Rule Number 2 - Never talk about Fight Club
-
deano, I don't think we can do it on this forum, I wasn't having a go at you
-
Sorry, a public poll, meaning you see who picks each option
-
Was the the day when we kicked with the wind for the first three quarters?
-
These polls should be public. I'm tipping Freo for a win.

15 Colin Sylvia possessions = 40 Cameron Bruce possessions
Jarka replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Two points on this, firstly I'm horrified that someone of his talent and ability is instructing the rest of the team with the nuances of football. Secondly he obviously needs to start listening to his own advice because if he really knows where to run to, lead and when to switch then averaging just a dozen touches a game is shocking. -
Disagree, the 1998 and 2001 drafts had much more of an impact to our current list than what happened in 1999 and 2000. My reasoning is as follows - not one player remains on our list from any of the 98 drafts (ps, Nov or rookie), from 2001 only Miller and Jamar remain, both clearly not up to it. But from the 99 draft we still have Green, Wheately, Whelan and Bruce. 2001 was quite successful as we got both of Scotty Thompson and Troy Simmonds, we just weren't able to keep them at the club. 2001 in particular hurt us quite badly, still widely regarded as the 'super draft'. In comparison to our dismal effort Geelong picked up Bartel, Kelly, S.Johnson & D.Johnson (didn't include the father/son selection), the first three would be a good basis of any team. The Saints took Dal Santo, Maguire and Montagna, all available to us.

I think one of our problems over the last 6 years or so is that we've had a team full of footballing dummies. What I mean by that is that when we have possession in traffice they're unable to pick the best option which forces a turn over. How many times have we seen one of our own running through the centre corridor in space only to handball it to someone standing still and about to be gang tackled. Right now the game plan may seem terrible but that would be more due to the lack of ability of our players than anything else. I'm hoping that Bailey's 'teaching' technique will be more effective that Daniher was, but I'm not expecting an immediate improvement. This year was always going to be a transitional year where the new coaches will work out who to keep and who to delist.
-
From memory his first draft was 1998 which would make 4 top 10 picks. 2007 Pick 4 - Cale Morton 2003 Pick 3 - Colin Sylvia 2003 Pick 5 - Brock McLean 2001 Pick 9 - Luke Molan If he had 1997 then you could add TJ to the list. IMO of those picks 1 was a definite success (McLean), 1 a definite failure (Molan) and 2 undecided.

What has that got to do with his lack of work when we don't have the ball?

TRAVIS JOHNSTONE - WHY WHY WHY???

Considering the posiiton that we currently find ourselves in then that's a fair assessment. -

Joeboy, you of all people should understand that demonland.com is no place for facts and reality... (Psst, I actually agree with him but don't tell anyone ) -

Meh, give the baby his dummy, then sit back and laugh at him for another couple of weeks, it's all about stroking the ego -
Miller's is an ordinary beer, try Asahi or Sapporo, superior product

Heh, good point. -
I see your point
-
I thought that players have always been able to nominate for both drafts.

Agreed Nash, perhaps the wording 'not more than 4 wins' would be less ambiguous?
