Or you could look at the last 10 years... Daniher & CAC had the role for a decade, more than enough time to make their mark. We'll give them some leniency, say first 5 years to settle in. So what was their best result in the last 5 years? A flaky win against an undermanned St.Kilda outfit in the first week of the finals and then we bow out with barely a whimper. Story of the MFC really over the last decade, NOT GOOD ENOUGH
-
Not a good comparison to aid your argument because Daniher asked for the toughest KPP available, not the best (drafting 101 for dummies). From memory Matthew Maguire would have been the guy we should have taken with that pick in that draft because he was considered to be the next best available.
-
I agree with RobbieF, our record of recruiting KPP's and rucks is dismal, at best. Sure we got Simmonds and Jolly but what's the point when they play their best footy with another club? Our only true KPP or ruck success story is Rivers, but even he plays as a loose HBF, not a true CHF. We have alot of developing to do

Where was the training session held?

Please don't mention Holland

Thanks mate

I wish for (and in this order).... 1. Judd plays well and even manages to improve his previous performances thereby setting a ridiculously high standard for the rest of the competition to follow. 2. Our next 1st round draftee is so inspired by Judd's brilliance he pushes his own limits beyond what is normally humanly possible surpassing even the great man himself and then goes onto being the first captain to lead his team to a 5 peat of Grand final victories. 3. My 8 month old daughter manages to eat her dinner without sneezing and thereby not decorating my top with various combinations of carrot, sweet potatoe, apple, pear and chicken.

This year is going to be another transitional year for us. Bailey has to develop players to fill in a heap of positions so I'm not expecting a great year, in fact a bottom 4 finish wouldn't surprise me at all.
-
This saddens me greatly that a club legend is treated in this way.
-
Just a minute....I'm talking about Ian Ridley who almost successfully engineered a takeover of another club. BTW, nothing has occurred since which has proved him wrong, he just didn't foresee that the AFL would introduce the CBF
-
Considering Robo's age, recent performances and history of injuries I'd definitely keep Green before him.
-
Gardner is easily the best one we've had since Tiger, no doubt
-
Green carried a foot injury for much of the year which affected his kicking. There are a heap of players that I'd delist before Green...and in no particular order: Ben Holland Brad Miller Paul Johnson Matthew Warnock Paul Wheatley Adem Yze Nathan Carroll Jace Bode Chris Johnson Russell Robertson
-
What has Dunn accomplished so far to deserve to get on our 'untouchable' list?
-
I really can't imagine that the AFL will be able to put their man in the job.
-
I'm going to be very, very happy when we finally stop experiementing with Holland & Miller...
-
Sounds like a bunch of mates having a chat over some beers.... Anway, off topic, but I remember hearing somewhere about Sugar's son is a pretty decent footballer, does anyone know anything about the kid?
-
How good is it to see Moloney in that team! Also Petterd lining up is a bonus. Just remember guys that score results at this stage are meaningless, sure it's nice to hava a win but it's not the point of the exercise
-
Pre-season results are meaningless, what does count though is blooding players and trialling game plans, especially when you have a new coach and you're rebuilding the list. A couple of things concerned me about the game but I saw some positives as well. I'll wait until later in the year before passing judgement but honestly I'm not expecting a great year, more of a transitional season.

Mate, none taken at all, I enjoyed your post

The idea of this thread is to pinpoint our strengths and real our weaknesses coming into the new season. If you want to contribute please list 3 of each. Positive 1. Mix of experience and youth Our list is well balanced with a good blend of experience with a very talented group of youngsters coming through to challenge the older guys. 2. Starting midfield. White, McDonald, McLean and Jones are as good as any other starting midfield going around right now. 3. Forward versatility. Neitz, Robertson, Newton, Davey, Yze, Maric. We now have a forward line with serious talent, but more importantly they're all different types of players. I could imagine that when in form our forward would give the opposition coaching staff alot of headaches when setting up their matchups. Negative. 1. Ruck depth White is on the wrong side of 30, if he falls over we don't have much to back him up. Jamar and PJ have been tried without alot of success and Meesen has yet to perform at this level 2. Contested possessions Last year only the bulldogs had fewer contested touches, sure we had alot of injuries but our 'soft' reputation has haunted us over the last decade. We must improve in this if we want to win regular finals matches. 3. Injuries When Daniher took over as coach he described our list as being 'brittle', well, sadly he left it in a very similiar state.
