Windsor's 2 goals. Last time I remember having a wingman who kicked goals was Robbie Flower at 1.1 per game. No way making a comparison, but it was great to see.
-
I think you need 8 altogether. Those 6 plus 2 others Salem and Rivers will go through the midfield and spend some time down back, but not enough to be the reliever of the bench. So maybe Howes who did well and adds a little height we lost with Hibberd retiring. Then the other key spot is between TMac and Thomlinson who seems to have the nod.

Seems like BBB might play tonight Wrong Sorry told By someone wrong Brown

PRESEASON TRAINING: Tuesday 27th February 2024

So Tomlinson gets 3rd tall spot in defense. Surprised about Howes going on Richmond practice. Hope he goes ok. -
With Turner injured, Thomlinson, Hore, Adams and Howes not showing much, and Tmac just avarage. Would it be possible for Verrall to take the tall defender spot and then do a turn in the ruck.
-
I think it's about right. Maybe Hore, Howes, Tmac and Turner could be in the same mix as Thomlinson. I think Hunter would be the one likely to go for Kossie in round 1, but Billings would have to play well. I guess we'll know more after the richmond, carlton ventures

PRESEASON TRAINING: Monday 12th February 2024

If you look at the second photo of Jefferson on 12th Gallery you can see where his strength will be. He has really long arms and takes the ball well out in front. He doesn't try to Klunk it, but more with soft hands like Fritsch. Even from that photo you can see a defender having trouble trying to spoil. Compare it with most photos of JVR where the ball is taken more above his head. For him it works because of his leap and crash into opponents, but also makes it easier for a defender. -

The quote of 27 fit players made me decide to put a list of who we haven't got from last year. That is who is in or out of rehab, injured, missing, retired or transferred out from the players that played last year, or reasonably expected to play this year Forwards - Fritsch, Brown, Jefferson, Petty (in defence list as well), Smith, Fullarton, Melksham, McAdam Mids - Hunter, Sparrow, Grundy, Clarrie, Jordon, Billings, Brayshaw Backs - May, Lever, Petty, Salem, Hibberd That's nearly a whole side and I might have missed a couple who came back late after off season surgery . -

Great day out to watch. Ground is in fantastic condition. Lots of lines on oval at both ends at various angles to goals. It's part of Williams set shot kicking where they stay on the line in approach over dummy on mark. Rained half way through but didn't appear to affect ball handling. Great to see so many spectators, especially so many young kids. About 6 Casey players there to make up the numbers especially in match Sim which had proper umpires in control. The Casey boys were not as clean but still did some nice things and the rest of the group made sure they were involved. A lot of the run through drills prior to the match sim were at a high intensity with reflex give offs. I suggest anyone going to watch to take some binocculars so you can pick up players on opposite side of ground. Before match sim they went inside the rooms and could see through the windows doing close in drills in the indoor kicking area for about 15 minutes, but it was all possession and handball, close contact stuff and no kicking. Petracca is so far in front of anyone else, it's not funny. Kozzie was great and his run down tackle had the whole crowd applauding. Verell will be the back up ruckman - along way ahead of KFW, Fullarton and Schache Feel sorry for Laurie as he really impressed, but basically has to take ANB's spot and he was good as well. Hard to see taking Viney and both smalls into the midfield. Howes, Hore and Turner all did good intercepts TMac and Thomlinson also did but the other 3 are more nimble and could play on smaller opponents. McVee was very good. Brayshaw marked Tholstrup for a while and they are both similar body shapes. McAdam for me is the pick of the recruits. Just so quick with every thing he does. I don't know who the fitness guy is, but he spent a lot of time with the guys doing boundary runs. All the coaches being very involved. May was the most vocal and giving directions to everyone. I think Lever did the whole match sim and looked ok. Fritsch and JVR were the best forwards. The main forward line looked good and you still have Jefferson, Brown, Melksham and Petty to come into consideration who didn't participate. Didn't notice Schache at all. Noah Yze has a big build already for a young kid. Looks like Rivers will play midfield. I hope Bowey gets a licence to go through the middle of the ground wherever he plays as he is so dangerous. Quick and brilliant disposal. Midfield looked good and still didn't have Oliver, Sparrow and Hunter involved. Billings spent a lot of match sim doing boundary runs with fitness guy. Tholstrup and Windsor showed enough although only a few touches. Just hope they hold them both back for a while. Spargo covered a lot of ground and hit up some good passes. Woewodin did a couple of nice things but not much else. Langdon covered a lot of ground and got a bit of it. Chandler was lively and kicked a couple of goals but missed an easy right foot snap from end of goal square. AMW ran laps after some short kicking at the start. Sestan hardly noticed, but you can't see everything. Seems to second guess himself instead of doing.- 161 replies

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 24th January 2024

No-one seems to have mentioned it but KFW has not only height advantage, he probably has the best leap of anyone to go with it. Just needs to learn to accumulate possessions - he was only getting it 3/4 times a game last year. If he has bulked up, he won't be pushed away and the possessions will come. -
It's only a rough comparison but this is the Cranbourne racecourse which has a dog track, trotting track and race track on the right is the old Cranbourne football oval, changerooms and netball court. All looks a similar size to Caulfield
-
Watching training at Casey is much better than Gosh's as far as seeing goes when they open the gates (maybe I should say if ever). It's banked all the way around and a small grandstand, so you can see both sides of the ground.
-
Our second tallest player with a big leap It just depends how he develops I just want to see him get a bit more ball. I'm not worried about the ruck side of things - that will come.
-
No just that he has more upside from where he was last year. JVR still has a lot of upside to come but it will be incremental
-
He easily has the most upside potential of any of our forwards not only because as everyone says he needs to bulk up and is obviously doing so, but his height, telescopic arms and soft hands marking the ball like fritsch impress me most.
-
When you go to the races nearly 70% of the race is too far to see and you see more on the big screens there. It would be interesting to have a low rise building for MFC adjacent to the home straight on the inside of the course with double sided stands. One facing the track and the other facing the training ground. Bit of a win/win for both parties.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Closed Sessions at Casey until 2024
stinga replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree with everything you say. I've watched a small amount of pre season at Casey over the last few years and you see the newer guys is the various drills and you think 'how good will they be'. Then as the pre season goes along and the match sim part of training becomes more serious the senior players continue to dominate. The better on ballers still get the ball 30 times so leaves less opportunity for the newer guys to stand out and you realise how much further they need to improve. But then 3 - 4 years ago Bowey, Kossie and Jackson came along and last 2 years it was JVR and McVee. Sometimes you just don't know until a few games into the season. But as you say they have to overtake a player already there, so only leaves a spot for 1 or 2 permanently. Your best players have say 12 year careers. (18 to 30 years of age) With 24 main players, mathematically that only allows for the 2 a year. -
Thanks Lucifer for all the work. Don't know if its my system but all the previous pages appear to have disappeared.
-
Congrats Lucifer. You were right about maintaining the 36/6/2 squad.

2023 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS
stinga replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
so 42 becomes 74 (plus 3rd pick next year) which we won't use. So I guess we get Brown and one other as A rookies. So keeping the status quo - 36 senior list, 6 A Rookies, 2 B Rookies -

What was the deal pick 43 to 74? Can't find it anywhere -
You can't teach speed or jumping ability that much. I like the selection. It reminds me of Jack Steele, present st.kilda captain. Steele also performed really well at the combine but was never spoken much about. We've got a few smaller midfielders coming through but lack a taller one, so a good fit all round.
