  1. I disagree. The Vets allowance encourages players to stay with their current club (what the supporters want) while allowing players to be paid market value (which is what the players want). It's a reward for the loyalty of the club and the player, which ends up benefitting both of them.
  2. He was a mature age second round pick in 2001.
  3. Who are these low draft picks at Hawthorn that have "elite disposal, contested ball winning ability and competitiveness"?
  4. The defence comments are actually quite detailed. Look at the difference between the comments for Strauss (concentration), Georgiou (wrestling technique), Michie (defensive transition), Nicholson (letting his opponent lead him to the ball) and Evans (positioning, in previous weeks). They relate to different things. Turning the ball over doesn't stop people playing their role. Have you thought that maybe selection is tailored to the reviews?
  5. Brad Miller wrote the comments, not Allison. You have a problem with the defensive comments. Is that because you don't notice it, and then get shocked that the game you saw and the one they saw appear to be different? I can't see why they would bother trying to make false comments about players in the VFL - that just sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory to justify why your favourite player/s get crap reviews. The defensive side of the game is super important, especially if you want to be a good team. Good team players don't complain about defence or make excuses as to why they can't do it, they just do it. Each player is also given a role to play and the only people who know that role are the players and coaches. I am backing their views on what is expected of players.
  6. Turner says that every year. Then he conveniently forgets that and says it again a year later about another player.
  7. Oops, is this the thread for irrelevant posts?
  8. A Higgs Boson walks into a catholic church. The priest says "I'm sorry, subatomic particles aren't allowed in here". The Higgs Boson replies, "But without me, how can you have mass?" Isaac Asimov is widely considered a master of hard science fiction and, along with Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke, he was considered one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers during his lifetime. Asimov's most famous work is the Foundation Series; his other major series are the Galactic Empire series and the Robot series. The Galactic Empire novels are explicitly set in earlier history of the same fictional universe as the Foundation series. Black Sabbath are an English rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1969, by guitarist and main songwriter Tony Iommi, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward. The band have since experienced multiple line-up changes, with guitarist Iommi being the only constant presence in the band through the years. Originally formed in 1968 as a blues rock band named Earth, the band soon adopted the Black Sabbath moniker and began incorporating occult themes with horror-inspired lyrics and tuned-down guitars. Despite an association with these two themes, Black Sabbath also composed songs dealing with social instability, political corruption, the dangers of drug abuse and apocalyptic prophecies of the horrors of war.
  9. So ....... what you are saying is that we should be focussing our efforts on attracting Pendlebury .... in 2 years time. By the time Pendlebury would play his first game he'd be 28 years old. So you want to focus our recruiting efforts on recruiting a 28 year old opposition club captain who will then be in the twilight of his career?
  10. But it isn't up. So why bother mentioning it? By the same measure, we should target Gary Ablett and Buddy Franklin. They're both good players, so we need to be smart, sane, realistic, ruthless!!
  11. Just because you don't watch him play in the VFL doesn't mean that the club doesn't.
  12. He is about 6'2, so he's a good size. He's also strong, so whether he "looks skinny" (according to you) doesn't actually affect his performance.
  13. You post a lot. That said, I usually only read them when you directly quote me. I regret my latest decision.
  14. He suffers in supporters' eyes because he is being forced to play an offensive role that he isn't suited to. Why? Because we don't have anyone else who can do it. He is a very good defensive backman, because he's fast, strong, a good size, strong overhead, selfless and does all of the one percenters that make a good defender. But he is being forced to run the ball out of defence as one of our primary defensive ball users. That's not his best role, but he fills that role as the selfless leader he is. He would play in any team.
  15. It must be hard to analyse the game when you only watch the ladder.
  16. That's rubbish. Complete rubbish.
  17. So you are suggesting that Jackson says to Mahoney, "Josh, make sure we improve the list".
  18. Agreed. Jones is a good player, which is not in doubt. However this thread is about how people played this week only. He had a job to do and was beaten easily. That's not to say he isn't a good player, but he didn't deserve votes yesterday.
  19. He went back to Glenelg, played seniors, and was in the bests. http://www.foxsportspulse.com/round_info.cgi?a=MATCH&fixture=124147241&c=1-3289-0-289294-0&pool=1
  20. These are my thoughts. I heard that he tests well for speed (sub 3 secs) and agility, but haven't heard anything about his endurance. On early impressions, I'm not keen on Brayshaw simply because he's more of a constant motion accumulator rather than a power runner.
  21. Yep. If you look around at the games being played, it's is quite rare for the best running team not to win.
  22. The thing I like is that, despite being an inside midfielder, he has pace and power. He needs a tank to go with it, but that should improve with a preseason.
  23. Looking at last year's draft, we selected the following players: - Salem - JKH - Hunt Looking at those we drafted, the ability to get on the outside and do damage was very important. Rookies - Harmes - King - Jetta - Georgiou plus we added Tyson, Cross and Riley. Through the rookie draft and trades we picked up players opportunistically, like experienced hard bodies and role players. Interestingly, our first rookie pick was also a midfielder with pace. I think that there was a clear long term plan with our drafting which addresses a key need that will only get more important - speed. I would be surprised if this wasn't a theme in this year's drafting as well.
  24. In order: - Can't run - Can't run - Can't run - Football sense - Can't run I'll give you a hint about how the game is played.
