Our fitness and training schedule in 2025
Surely Goodwin needs to go back and change the training schedule based on these results though? Maybe it was player driven to change it this way, but it makes no sense to me that you'd do your main training session 2 days before a game. Absolute madness.

Our fitness and training schedule in 2025
This was an AFL.com.au article, if I recall, our fitness also looked off last year.

Our fitness and training schedule in 2025
Just by going off statistics and what we've seen so far, we're clearly the worst 4th qtr team which can often point to fitness. I wonder if the re-arrangement of our training sessions this year is contributing to this? Why are we one of the few teams the AFL that does this? I assume it got changed after the review as it was different to last year. "The Dees have been deploying a different lead-in to games than many clubs, holding a main training session two days out from matches, then a captain's run the day before games. Across the competition most clubs hold their main training session, then have a day off, then their captain's run the day before matches." Anyone have any insight as to why we've changed things around this year?

Petracca & Oliver at the Dees in 2026?
Tbh I reckon he's actually more frustrated with the coaches than the players. Imagine playing for a team where the coach is trying to limit damage rather than to go out and win? Whatever happened to Goodwin's pledge to play more exciting football? It lasted as long as his Simon's sign-off.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Anyone else watch first crack? A few things of note 1) The behind the goals vision of the first centre bounce where Sparrow goes up to Holmes the other forwards are pointing and got the arms out stretched asking what's going on/who's playing on Humphries? This is damning and I just can't believe they wouldn't have been on the same page as the coaches. Is this why the likes of Petracca were so frustrated? 2) Montagna believes Goodwin/the coaching staff should put their hand up internally and say they got the Holmes tag wrong. 3) King on the other hand reckons that even if our forwards had 6v6 we still wouldn't have scored because they're so poor at contest, hence he could see why Goodwin would throw someone extra at stoppage to help limit the damage and keep us in the game for longer. He put the onus on the likes of Oliver and Viney to get the ball outside instead of throwing it onto the boot and to use the extra at stoppage to get some run and carry to get it over Geelong's extra in defence. He also said Viney is self destructive to Melbourne's midfield. Interesting viewing.

Honestly if we use Sparrow to tag Merrett and play with one less forward, Goodwin can just stay in Adelaide. I'm still in shock of how dumb that move was on Holmes. He needs to put his hand up and take responsibility of that terrible coaching performance rather than try and shift blame onto the players.- Time to go Goody?
https://www.3aw.com.au/is-it-time-matthew-lloyd-damning-comments-on-simon-goodwin-after-another-dees-loss/ I'll be so annoyed if we miss out on Longmire and Carlton get him. It's time to rip the band-aid off.- Time to go Goody?
Completely out coached tonight. Simon was a good coach when the game became all about contested possessions, clearances and territory. Now the game is all about ball movement. This clearly isn't Goodwin's strength, and he also completely overestimates the skill of the players on his list. Why would you allow Geelong to have a spare defender when you require our mids and half forwards to pinpoint perfectly weighted kicks? Do we have Errol Gulden or Gryan Miers kicking the footy? No, we have Jack Viney and Clayton Oliver. Bloody even up the numbers to at least give our forwards a chance.- POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Surely Selwyn Griffith is moved on at the end of this year. I watched some of our 2021 vids this week, and I was genuinely surprised how arrogant some of our players were when they openly said "we know we're the fittest team in the AFL". They were and they all knew it and weren't shy about it. We would be in the bottom 4 for fitness now along with Carlton.- POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
I just don't understand coaching, I really don't. Just boggles my mind with what Goodwin did and how he played into the Cats' hands. I know we almost won round 1, but we look so far off winning a game at the moment. If we don't win one in the next 3 we could potentially go winless this whole season. I'm not joking. We look so impotent going forward. Even off turnover I just can't work out how our forwards never have any separation. We never get an easy look.- GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
I predict a pretty even second half with an improved effort before slipping away and losing by 5 goals.- NON-MFC: Round 04
Carlton's back half ball movement is a million times better than ours. Scary how bad we are considering they are also 0-3- Petracca & Oliver at the Dees in 2026?
How can Trac be traded when he doesn't even have an AFL registered player agent to help broker any deal?- Time to go Goody?
Does anyone have any insight to why, that as part of the review, the players were given more freedom and flexibility to decide when to come into the club? I used to hear how we were one of the more intense teams on the training track, and heard May call it, "The Melbourne way" and this was a program that got us a flag. Now we're 0-3 and a decision like that just seems counterintuitive.- Harvey Langford Rising Star nomination Rd 3
I actually find this hilarious how Trac said Langford went away to work on the defensive side of his game when Trac's defensive efforts on the weekend were absolutely putrid.- Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
- Internal expectations
I remember Goodwin saying he believed we have a team to challenge the very best. For me that means Top 8 to Top 4. There would be alarm bells going.- PODCAST: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
Would love to hear from the three of you on how bad does it need to get for the board to sack Goodwin? Would 0-10 do it? Would a bottom 2 finish do it? For transparency, I'm in the "Sack Goodwin" camp, but those calling for his head now is fanciful this early on, but surely there would get to a point where enough is enough.- POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
I know someone who works in Geelong's high performance team. He told me late last year that Burgo's methods have quickly become outdated over the last couple of years. I thought that was interesting because when Tmac got interviewed on SEN last year, be basically said that Selwyn hadn't really changed much.- POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
I've been thinking about this all evening and I'm just wondering how did the club get it so wrong on expectations this year? Goodwin talks about not having expectations but "Ambition" which sounds like a Ben Crowe thing, but as humans we always have an expectation of things. I've been hearing how it was a great pre-season (apart from a few injuries) because it was their first full off season reset since 2020/2021. Everyone at the club is connected, they had the two reviews, they reshaped the whole footy program at the club, they've tweaked the game plan, everyone is in love again etc etc. It's like everyone at the club was drinking this kool-aid and then the season has started and we've just taken 3 punches to the face and slapped into reality. How can a football department be so delusional with where they think the program and list is at? Goodwin said at his presser that this side has the potential to be an in-form exciting team challenging the very best. Last week was a shock. Today was the "oh, we really are in a bit of trouble". When is it going to click for them that we've [censored] something up here?- Jack Viney Extends Contract Until 2028
Incredibly bad foresight on this extension. He's a darling for the media as they just go on and on about his toughness but no one talks about how much of a liability he is ball in hand. I'm still shocked he won our B n F last year. It was actually refreshing to hear Hawkins or it might have been Riewoldt ask "How does Viney reinvent himself going forward?" because we can't carry him in this midfield anymore.- POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
I just watched the press conference and I felt Goody gave a bit of a parting shot to N Jones at the end. Was pretty blunt when he said our set up at clearance and method is all wrong- POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
L L L L W L L L L Cheers.- GAMEDAY: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
Players aren't playing on instinct any more. Look confused, unsure and completely lacking confidence. Goodwin needs to take the shackles off otherwise another 6-8 goal loss incoming - POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
