He adds speed and dash on the outside and really likes to take the game on. His kicking really leaves a lot to be desired at times.

Seems we are front runner for Murray.. not sure how I feel about this. https://m.afl.com.au/news/2019-10-03/trade-wrap-banned-pie-sparks-interest-from-handful-of-clubs

I am torn to be honest. Part of me thinks Young would complement our line up quite well, but if we are able to split with GWS then it gives us the opportunity at not only Dylan Stephens at pick 11 but also Jeremy Sharp at pick 18 who I rate very highly. Stephens is your classic outside player with speed and dash. Shows the same similarities as Andrew Gaff but has that real breakaway speed like a Luke Shuey which helps around congested situations as his ability zip in and out of packs and hit a lead up forward on the chest with his left foot. Is quite composed and has a neat left foot. Don't be put off by his skinny frame though, kid goes in hard when it's his turn. Played 12 senior games for the Norwood Football Club. So has already had senior exposure which can only be good for his development next year.

One thing I did forget to mention is that Ash loves to fly and intercept for his marks. Reads it well across half back and likes to peel off when given the opportunity. He cpuld probably play as a high half forward next year, but i feel clubs will want to expose his speed out on the open wings or drive from half back. Dylan Stephens I feel could push up into top 5 calculations, but also remain around the 10 mark.

2019 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem
dazzledavey36 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I will get smashed for this. Salem is a standard good AFL player. Not a great player, but your standard get to 90 games without really anything that have stood out. In my honest opinion he has the potential to become a fantastic AFL player. I see a lot of similarities to Bachar Houli across half back to increase his dash and drive and become a 80m player. At times he likes to play it safe by going the short 30cm chip pass. For him to take the next step its watching the likes of Houli and Shaun Burgoyne and how the impact the footy offensively when they don't have the footy and providing that offensive drive to hit up lead forwards or inside 50 entries. In my opinion he hasn't lived up to a top 10 pick standard, but he's been a good role player. For us to begin climbing back up in the ladder we need more then anything Christian Salem to elevate his game to a whole new level. -
Surprised his name hasn't been brought up much. But Leigh Montagna thinks he'd be a perfect fit at Freo and also the Dees. https://coupler.foxsports.com.au/api/v1/article/amp/afl/afl-trade-news-2019-jack-newnes-st-kilda-leigh-montagna-fremantle-ed-langdon-brad-hill/news-story/1bfdabcef3ee7cf2586f6172345145f5?__twitter_impression=true

I agree mate, I think Young just suits our needs more then anything. But also has the potential to play straight away and release Salem to a wing role on a full time basis.

I have done some work with Ash through the bushies. He is a quality kid and shows traits of being a very good player of the future. I am also bias and hope that he has a successful career. I will put my neutral hat on and say that I would have Young ahead of Ash. While Ash provides speed and dash, his kicking at times can become unstuck because he is always running million miles an hour. I am not saying he is a poor kick, solid around ground when chipping it around, but i just feel that when the heat and pressure is on and intensity lifts once he will be in the AFL system, this could expose him even more. Played the back end of the year in the midfield and rack up your 20 to 25 possessions but i still felt the body of work as n on baller just wasn't there. Think of Shaun Atley. Young in my opinion is one of the best users of the footy in the draft. Absolute sublime with his ability to bullet low 40m passes on both sides of his body. Yes he is genuinely a duel sided player with both feet. Plays his best footy across half back as the quarter back who will sit out the back of the stoppage and wait for the handball receive to then set up a counter attack with his foot skills, but also his intercept marking is exceptionally well. Had stints as a midfielder after the championships and showed that he has the ability to push up into the midfield as a genuine wingman who could deliver with poise inside 50. Honestly you just want the ball in this kids hands at every opportunity because he uses it so well. So in all of that I would take Young ahead of Ash. Dont be surprised if Ash slides to the point thay he could drop out of top 10 calculations.

If we can trade down to pick 11 and 18 from GWS he would be absolutely as my first picks. Screams exactly what we have been missing for years. Wouldyou still take a Smokey risk on him at pick 3? In terms of needs, I would.
-
Me too, he has great belief in this club and this is coming from someone who knows what success is all about. He is a huge wrap for Goodwin.

I think he will either stay or go to the Hawks. Noise seems to be heading thay way.

https://www.sen.com.au/programs/sen-breakfast/ If you click on the link you should be about see the podcast of the interview. Very interesting insight. The feeling I got was that there has been reports that Goody can be quite stubborn, yet apparently according to Goody this is one of his strengths in taking feedback and open to everyone's ideas. The big one that pricked my ears also was towards the end he was asked who was the best leader at the football club. He said everyone was different but the 2 that stand out in terms of the alignment of the club and direction of the footy club for the future was Max Gawn and Jack Viney.

Get use to it, it's happening. I'd rather keep him personally, but the fact t he hasn't been offered a contract is telling.

Hayden Young is your man.

Can you point where i am wrong? Did i not say McKernan, Kennedy amd Darling had kicked bags of 4 on him this year? Of course i actually had to break it down for you becausr i knew straight away your little nut inside ypur head wouldnt be able to process it. Why do you keep harping on about Harley Bennell? Probably 70% of people on here have expressed that the club should take a risk.. Some might want him some might not. That is fine.. Your obscure obsession shows how simple you are. Throw out the same line and hopefully others jump on board with it. Weren't you the one comparing a kid that will be lucky to get drafted at all next year to the great Michael O'Lounglin?? Now that's funny...
-
I remember when Shaun Mckernan kicked 4 on Sam Frost at the start of the year.. That was funny.. Jack Darling also kicked 4 on Frost in Darwin. Josh Kennedy bagged 4 goals straight against Frost in round 9 this year. Same Josh Kennedy that kicked another 4 against old Frost balls in the prelim last year. After that performance, it was exact reason why club went after Steven May. Yep. Frosty sure did destroy Kennedy........

Rangey half forward who has spurts in the midfield.

Keep an eye on Miles Bergman. The Dees are are showing significant interest and are big fan of his potential.

How can you write off Wingard after 1 year?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

Cool bro -
Had hope that we might habe actually had a genuine chance, but noise now seems that its either Collingwood or Hawthorn. Enough for me to put Hawthorn as my most hated team in the AFL.
