WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
dazzledavey36 replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jay Clark responding to a question. What is the latest about Ben Brown and Issac Smith joining Melbourne? A: I think the Dees are busy behind the scenes and could bring in both of those guys if Tom McDonald leaves. They need his money out. GWS interested in McDonald. Melbourne has presented to Smith and offered a three year deal and is slightly ahead of the Bombers for Brown. Maybe on about $550-$650k. -
Good signing by them.

All good moon, just a little gag to pass the time.. In all seriousness though, I am a little excited of having Brown potentially playing for us in 2020. Nek minute, requests a trade to Essendon.. -

C'mon Benny! Just announce you're coming to us ffs. Priorities son! -
Cheers doc I knew you wouldn't take offence to that. Keep posting those rumours! ?

Mate no one is trolling. We're all enjoying Doc's work on here as do I. There is some great discussion going on this thread. You've taken things out of context.

I'm well aware of this.. I am also well aware that players do reach out off their own bat like Petracca to Pendlebury. I know this is common with a lot of players having worked with a few ex and current AFL player through the TAC cup. I also understand if it was coaches as well if they have had some past working relationship. But clubs have enough coaching and mentor programs in place internally. Rarely clubs allow players to speak to other coaches from clubs because of the concern of being poached to that club. It might look common but its not.. But Goodwin and Smith don't. They'd never met each other at that time, They have had no past working relationship. Smith had just been drafted, and Goodwin was at Essendon. Usually how it works is when kids get drafted in that the first few weeks, they will be put In a buddy system program. Meaning the the club will put the draftee with an older experienced player to shadow and soak up as much as they can in their first few weeks at the club. Going external for mentors for an 18 year draftee who'd never met the guy is going a bit extreme first up. Clubs are very hesitant from overloading kids with too much. Not distributing the Doc here at all because I'veenjoyed reading his content, but this one doesn't makes sense at all.
-
This was my thought exactly. Goodwin was already living in Melbourne, busy with his new role at Essendon by the time Smith got drafted. Not sure how he could have mentored a young 18 year old he never met or had any associate with at all while working for another club, but also living in another state.

Hey Doc, Cheers for the update. But I am interested in the Brodie Smith talk you mentioned.. You said there is a connection with Goodwin? Goodwin retired at end of 2010. Brodie Smith was selected in the 2010 National Draft in November. At that stage Goodwin had already signed as an assistant coach at Essendon...? Have I missed something here...?

Interesting response from Max Laughton on the live trade chat today when asked about Treloar. Hey DZ, you believe Ads is on his way out due to the relationship breakdown now beyond salvaging so who do you see having interest, cap space and the picks to offer? Really slim pickings - North rebuilding, Hawks the same, Dons $$ tied up elsewhere, Carlton no $$, Geelong no $$, Bulldogs no picks, Saints in same boat as Dogs. Give me your scenario. less From a cap standpoint, the Pies are willing to pay some of his 2021 salary if it means getting him out the door and bringing a high-end pick in. I still think the Suns with Pick 5 would be the ideal scenario for the Pies, but the Suns may not have him in their long-term plans. I think the Dees are a watch this space with Adam if he wants to stay in Victoria and play for a big Vic club.

Yep, reckon he's bound for kardinia Park.

Damien Barrett now saying Cats are now right in the hunt for Smith.. https://media.whooshkaa.com/show/9121/episode/750078.mp3

Mitch Clearly just that Isaac Smith to Geelong is potentially in play.
-
Has a bit of Shane Woewodin type scenario to this..

This was actually last week that this article came out. I was even listening to this on radio. This didn't come out yesterday as you have noted. -
Do realise that Twitter account is ran by a 17 year old school kid..
-
Billings would be the perfect outside tonic that we are desperate for. Like @Pulp Fritschon said though, can't see the saints parting away with Billings. They'd want a first round pick. Richards is an interesting one. Played half back in his under 18s year and was pretty impressive but the doggies have played him as a half forward flank.
-
And GNF still posts on here as himself.
-
Hamish Brayshaw as a potential rookie/delisted free agent is interesting..
-
With Footy officially finished for the year I am guessing trade talks will really ramp up. Got anything for us @Dr evil
