#8 Taj Woewodin Perhaps riding the high of Melbourne’s AFL Grand Final victory the day before, Demons fan and father-son candidate Woewodin made a terrific start to the game. He was part of the Sharks’ starting midfield mix and got his hands on the ball, shifting onto his right side to release long kicks forward. He also rotated into attack, missing a set shot in term one but sinking another from 40m in term two. He ended up with 22 disposals, seven marks and a goal in a clean display to round out the Sharks’ season.

He is best friends with Ed Langdon and they even lived together at Freo. Getting Weller would just be the perfect compliment to our midfield brigade.

Unfortunately it was a night of sadness as I received a text message of congratulations from an ex friend who notified me that my old mentor and counsellor who was also a tragic Melbourne supporter had recently passed away back in July this year of cancer. She thought I knew but I didn't. We had only messaged each other after the Richmond win this year pretty much confirming to each other that the lid was off and we could seriously win it this year and we'd both attend the grand final if we got there. She was in her 50s and was as passionate as they come but also the biggest heart of gold. She'd never seen a Melbourne flag and I was completely gutted that she was only 2 months of from seeing one for the first time in her life. I'm more angry she never told me that she was terminally ill but understood that's how she was a person. That win was for you dear Kate.

It's a complete stab in the guts for all of us eastern and southern supporters who are locked down and could not get to the game. I couldn't imagine what families of the players who missed out they'd be feeling when seeing this. This ain't a laughing matter.

Really think Vandenberg would suit Gold Coast. He'd add a hard and physical body into their midfield depth, but also protection for their younger mids who are still developing like Rowell and Anderson.

Really is an end of an era when you see the likes of Nathan Jones and Neville Jetta retire.. But it's the dawn of a new era and these guys have paved the way for the next generation for sustained success.
