2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Of course they will.. -
@Wilson7 is correct mate. Any player that has previously been delisted automatically fall under restricted free agent. Had Jordon not be delisted then he would need to be traded because you need to be at the club I think max 7-8 before you qualify as a restricted free agent.

Thanks. Don't understand why certain people get so worked up when there's an article posted whether it's negative or positive.
-
He'd absolutely thrive at Sydney. Type of player Longmire loves.

https://www.google.com/amp/amp.triplem.com.au/story/braydon-preuss-has-explained-why-he-went-to-melbourne-118673 "I met him at the end of the season and we got along pretty well. "He was all for playing the two ruckmen approach. "I wanted his thoughts on it because that was probably the most important one and he's all for it."

It's only the past 3-4 weeks he's been shifted onto a wing. He's played majority of his career as an inside mid/wing who uses his two way running power. So like Petracca and Clayton his efficiency by foot is effected by the power of work he does inside and out. I'm not one bit comparing to them as footballers. I'm purely comparing that his poor foot skills gets a bit overblown and compared to Petracca and Oliver they too tend to butch the footy badly. Oliver in particular is one of our biggest ball butchers going inside 50, but no one bats an eye lid because he does everything else great. If you look at his 2021 season when he was a 19/20 year old, his numbers as a midfielder stack up far better then Petraccas and nearly on par with Olivers. We'd be silly not to look at him. He easily gets a game ahead of James Jordon for instance and this would allow Petracca to spend some good quality time at half forward over the next few years. Only 22 years of age and about to play his 100th game in a system (Western Bulldogs) where talent have stalled over the years. His upside is enormous.

Thanks rpfc. I am genuinely perplexed with some of the reactions on here, to the point where it's like they've taken it personal? It's generating stories purely because; 1. The move in itself was controversial with the way it was handled by one of the biggest clubs in the land in Collingwood. Grundy was their heart and sole layer and spiritual leader you could say. He didn't want to go, but the club (Collingwood) made a decision based on what they thought would be beneficial for their salary cap. It's paid off them and they look like winners out of it which is fine imo. You then take into consideration with his contract situation and the money he's on and how much we were still willing to pay a quarter of it also. It created clicks at the time and is still doing so now. 2. The argument around at the time was why Melbourne? We already had one top dog in Gawn and you're genuinely bringing in pretty much the same player. I was totally against this move right from the very start because like me and a few others, I couldn't see how this could simply work. The talk was Gawn was going was to spend more time forward, but he's never shown any good forward craft in his career. We've now found ourselves in a situation where the club has identified that it simply hasn't worked yet, doesn't mean it won't ever. The move in itself is legit Brayden Pruess all over again. Bringing in another genuine ruckman and thinking that you'll fit them both in by playing either up forward who both don't have the forward craft ability. I think we should at least learnt from this which unfortunately we haven't. My last thought in all of this and have said it a few times, the move is bold by Goodwin. He knew this was going to create a headline and could mount a case that yeah, maybe it is a distraction, but he's made a decision based on what's best for the footy club moving forward and I actually love it. Based on the evidence Friday night, it could turn out to be a decision that goes a long way in becoming the difference to moving us one step forward to winning the flag?

Just saying...
-
I'd be extremely surprised if he asked for a trade.
-
Well done Judd.
-
Still think Joel Smith can play an important role for us in the forward line.
-
Yeah I like how the club is trying to be creative with Grundy. I think it's bold by Goodwin and shows that we're not set on same system compared to last year where I felt we were too rigid set on what made us great in 2021.
-
My god.. Why am I not bit surprised once again you've popped up and twisted the narrative to suit your own agenda. First of all this is absolutely a horrible take by you because all my responses have been purely around my concern for his wellbeing. I've been pretty respectful with what I've wrote on here recently and genuinely think that he'll get more fulfilment in life other then footy. Seriously, grow up and stop trying to look at every opportunity to get offended at every single comment that exists on a football forum.

Look, I don't think it's impossible, but you do need to understand that he's been programmed his whole AFL career as a genuine number 1 ruckman. Its going to take a while for him to adjust to being a full time forward. He'll need to learn about certain leading patterns, timing of when to lead and not too, body on body position etc. It's those little things that'll take time to adjust. I like how the club is being bold about this. They've identified that it hasn't worked so let's assess other options and instead not let if fester away until the seasons done. Still think they'll find a way to fit Grundy coming in towards the finals.

Peter Wright was always drafted as a forward more then a ruckman. His career at the Suns was always 70% forward and the rest as a relief ruckman. Similar with Charlie Dixon. He's always started his career up forward with spurts in the ruck. One thing about Peter Wright, Charlie Dixon and that stands out ahead of Grundy is that they've got the natural forward craft to go along with their strong contested marking. This is their strength where as Grundy lacks these traits that you need in a solid key forward.

AFL Under 18 Championships 2023
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Kynan finished the game with 20 disposals 7 tackles and 5 clearences. I only watched bits of the first half. Anyone know how he went for the rest of the game? -
Whatever other passions he's got in life. My main point is footy isn't the be all and end all.
-
Interesting they're not doing it at Port Melbourne ground like last year?
-
Same losers always ruining a good thread by going completely off topic. On a topic related matter, I hope Sam can find his way out of this form slump and play relatively good footy.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've been watching the Vic Metro game. Brown looks a great prospect imo. -
"Incredibly talented footballer" is a bit of a stretch to be honest. I accepted a while ago that I thought he was a good honest footballer who really does try his heart out, but still lacked the basics that you needed to take the next step of being a good key forward. He's very inconsistent and for such a guy that's right in his prime now he should be now influencing games, yet he still plays like a first year key forward. Example is, he's had 8 years in the AFL system and yet he's never kicked 20 goals in a season at AFL level. The most he's kicked in a year is 19. Josh Schache for instance has even kicked 24 in one year. When I think of incredibly talented players in the key forward stakes, the first two that come to mind are Aaron Naughton and Charlie Curnow. Weideman is not even remotely close to matching their talents. He's actually a great guy off field and gives you that vibe that you badly want him to make it, but it's just not going to happen unfortunately. All good, better things in life then footy.

I agree. I'd swap Spargo for Chandler in a heart beat.
