Good for football.

POSTGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
She had the grace to apologise. So she has some self-awareness. Perhaps overdue, though, in translating that into accuracy?

POSTGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
And it's the sort of opponent we've recently had trouble with. Not today.

POSTGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
Petty seemed to do more of the forward rucking than Van Rooyen. Do the stats bear that out?

It was to his family and friends, A. But your last sentence still holds! 😊

Time to go Goody?
Is there a case to be made for quality over quantity in this post-St-Kilda, Docklands-vibe instance? Two things: Standing at the exit from Spencer Street station (I'm an oldster) for a quarter of an hour or so just before the start I was struck by the variety of evident Demons streaming past, particularly youngish people, and very particularly families with young kids, all very happy to be decked out in the red and the blue (in some degree of answer to those who last week saw a generation of Demons lost to ridicule and bullying during the week). Something of a resilient future there? Per my earlier post, the noise was not a 16,000-level noise. Fair call on the raw numbers, though: in 2025 the Eagles are 4th on the 2025 average attendances (and Freo are 3rd - so maybe there's a bit of a WA 'footy starvation' factor there?) But we're not too shabby in 8th place, ahead of Hawthorn and Geelong, notably)

Practice Match Sunday 3rd Aug 2025
Streamed on the Club's website, 11.30. This team's worth a look - although the talls carnage from last week puts a dent in ☹️

Time to go Goody?
If you want to be positively distracted from what the crowd might or might not be, sit with the Demon Army. You'll always feel like you're at a 'biggie'. Kudos, as ever, to Our Army. p.s. Noticed a couple of apprentice chant leaders. Succession planning appears alive and well in this department of our Club. p.p.s. Singing the song before the final siren: both neck-hair-raising and slightly awks when it's a team of the calibre of WCE

Maybe hope their bathwater is tastier than ours? There's certainly a lot more of it!

POSTGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
I thought there might be some earlier calls on Harry P's game, at least relative to his recent ones. AND as a forward!

Trade Targets
In a week like this, particularly; so many posts, so little time! Sorry if I've missed this being posted by others... Zero HangerNorth Melbourne "weighing" up move for premiership defend..."They've discussed him and are weighing up a possible move for him in the trade period."Author duly noted btw - credibility factor, then, as previously established.

TRAINING: Monday 28th July 2025
THIS! I haven't trawled the countless pages, but I feel the umpires own confusion and poor (confiicting?) communication with eachother, and the players, has not been recognised in the blame laying. At the ground, it was drawn-out, back-and-forth chaos. The other 30 minutes, however; well...

On the (fairly accurate) evidence of your first para, rjay, we kinda do?! 😉

Brad Greens letter to members
ABC TV 7 o'clock news report stated that Brad Green had written 'a letter to members on behalf of the Board committing to bringing the Demons back to their glory days'. Well, no, the letter 'only' said that the 'Board and [he] are committed to doing everything required to have our AFL program performing at the level we all expect'. The latter could be interpreted as the former, by those expecting a return to the glory days (1950s/60s? 2021? 2021-23?) but it's just not what the letter said. Where and why does the media choose to apparently wilfully misrepresent? It's particularly surprising from the benign ABC news.

10th season of the AFLW
4 talls. Oh dear. Goldrick's final at 4.15 local, Sunday 3 August.

After the Great Choke
@Age was responding to my somewhat lightheartedly hopeful request, dg, not offering it up. I think it's now confirmed it's next to useless, and the slop should now finally be able to leave via the nearest drain! (though @danielE288's comparison suggests Club office bearers should stay away from said drain...)

After the Great Choke
Thanks, @Age. Wow... On balance: a) As it can't 'know' what it's saying, it's not surprising it doesn't; b) It needs a 'currency of information' algorithm; and, most relevantly, c) It seems locked out of Demonland. I was hoping for a neat synthesis of the myriad thoughts herein! Oh well... Thanks for trying.

After the Great Choke
Here as well as anywhere... Is it possible for AI to have too much source material? Anyone care to check by asking 'it', 'Why is the Melbourne Football Club so bad'? [hopes post is an appropriate balance of light and heavy heartedness...]

10th season of the AFLW
How to react to this morning's mail, after my <cough> 'contrasting' experiences at Casey and Docklands on the weekend?!

Anything this morning we can rail against? Or do we have the unicorn moment when they're all absolutely correct?

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
...however, tempering the awfulness of this new record tonight, it's sort of arbitrary, established between the arbitrary markers, within the whole game, of 3/4 time and full time. A Reddit poster notes (subject to checking, someone?) that the 'biggest “turnaround” in shortest time might be Sydney vs St Kilda, Rd 7 1994. Saints were down by 41 points with only 9 minutes left on the clock in the final quarter and came out 1 point winners'. The Saints took much longer to melt us this time... We may have the 'biggest' full-final-quarter meltdown but not the 'worst' final-quarter meltdown. That's as nice as I'm prepared to be tonight.
-
When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
Arguably we own 'first' AND 'second' - a poster elsewhere noted our lead in the 1992 Bombers game stretched to 47 points at the 4 minute mark of the last...

GAMEDAY: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
Nothing perceived by the crowd, other than 'Baaaaalll!' for the Saint's tackle then 'Baaaaallll! for Bowey's. Hopefully Michael's at the game and not watching his TV...
