  1. Not my style Uncle, i prefer romance and mutual satisfaction. Provided in any good book.
  2. Long may you live and inform this world Red. On a site full of nutters, you are a bastion of sanity.
  3. Shadow, I am an Ernest person that Earns no money and spend my days wondering what could have been. You know that my publishers and friends took all my money. It is true, I find foreign languages alluring particularly after a bottle of tipple. Even if I am only watching late movies on SBS.
  4. You know me only too well OD.
  5. Have the regular posters (that have kept this off beat thread going for so many years) died, become disinterested or simply gone away. The only constant seem to be the usual floggings and maid stories, the dedication of thread founder, Redleg, and the droll observations of OD. The thread seems to be irrelevant and passe to the cognoscenti of Demonland. Time to bring down the curtain boys?
  6. Is there any difference?
  7. Too much spending money! Hopefully not meeting up with Swanny and Dustin who are in a different league.
  8. Well said Josh regarding your comments about Oscar. Given your height and weight I agree.
  9. Agree to some extent. You have to be concerned about anyone on the long term injury or rehab list (whatever rehab means). However, it is only November. And we know nothing of the true state of recovery other than training observers who can see how fit they are, how they run and move. The question is when will they be right or best guess and when they are right will they be not only back in training but able to build up to full training before next season. You don't want to take risks but at the same time you don't want to have guys back for the start of the season well underdone. The long termers you have to worry about their futures at the club but we also need the young guys like Weed and Petty playing consistently and at full strength. Our depth is not good so lets hope it is not an issue again next season. To some extent the status and progress of our injured players will be a measure of Burgess and our medical staff.
  10. The realist and doomsayer in one.
  11. Not a candle flicker of renewal Chook?
  12. Spring is a time for new life, renewal, optimism and positive feelings.. For footy and the Demons it all starts again. We can enjoy the training reports, reading of new coaches, new methods, the development of young players and draftees, of players tearing it up, and of worrying off-season injuries. Are players showing endeavour, intensity, and improvement ? And, of course, we have the gossip and unsubstantiated stories of the lives and behaviour of players and coaches. In most cases, the cycle of footy life gives us new hopes and expectations, that things will be different in 2020. At the same time, some things remain the same, like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Universal Truths, and the capriciousness of human behaviour. In the case of Demonland, we have the training reports and readers rushing to renew their criticisms and biases. The comments from posters that represent all the vagaries of human behaviour surface like the rising sun and moon. We have the dreamers, the doomsayers, the optimists, the logical, the analytical, the rational, the humourous, the silly and the emotional. All have their say. We all have this irrational and emotional deep seated relationship with a footy club. It takes us to the very highs and the very lows of mood and feeling. How crazy and sentimental. But we can maintain our sanity by escaping from the world and its problems and of our own failings and disappointments. And despite life's disappointments, our footy team gives us our identity and sense of belonging despite everything. Posters may irritate and annoy. You may never want to meet those that annoy most, but there is a bond, a common cause, a common reason why we tap onto this site to comment, like any other addiction. It may wax and wane, but it will never go away until we meet our maker. Even then we may not be able to achieve eternal peace without That Flag.
  13. Well, this is a Back to the Future innovation. As old as the hills as you suggest Saty. Not a bad thing. i have always thought that many of the so called new innovations in sports training are no more effective, and, in some cases, less effective than some of the old methods. Some old methods get disposed of simply because they are seen as "old hat" and coaches want to be seen to be innovative and different. This is true in most things. Sometimes the old methods do get reinvented. Good to see that Burgess is not afraid to go back to old methods.
  14. Thought I had a wicked sense of humour but you guys are ruthless. IKIt would be interesting to know how many coaches implement or use anything they observe in the US. Yes travel broadens the horizons crowd but beyond that? It would be interesting to know why they have chosen their visiting spots, who they will be meeting, and any specifics of what they hope to learn. Templates are fine but not always relevant to different countries, cultures, sports.
  15. Cornes and his ilk are simply part of the footy talk industry. They are paid to provide opinions. They construct these opinion pieces on the back of a theme or a few issues. An exercise in creative writing nothing more. Footy talk is just a microcosm of the media at large. Turn on any electronic device and news programs have become a cacophony of talking heads all voicing and shouting opinions, no different than the boys in the pub. Their opinions are no more valid than any supporter or footy fan. And they are only contracted because they are ex-players not because they are more intelligent, or better informed or have more insight than the bloke in the pub. In most cases they are less intelligent and have less insight than the bloke in the pub. Comments are made to create a reaction and stir up discussion. And the businesses that engages these bods demand comments and articles that provoke. And the agent provocateur usually can achieve that simple aim. It’s not hard given the insatiable appetite that the mob has for this crap. And we are part of the mob. Reacting, commenting, becoming outraged with people and issues that we should ignore. Cornes is second rate let’s face it. And that is probably being kind. As Ron stated earlier, the decision to recruit May and Lever were good decisions at the time. No one criticised the decisions at the time, indeed it was the opposite. We had become a destination club. Other clubs were chasing them and presumably were prepared to pay big coin. They were recruited for strategic reasons as part of a plan. The fact that they have spent most of the time on the sidelines does not make the decision to recruit them poor. But so much opinion is based on hindsight, which is stock in trade for Cornes and the footy scribes (never call them experts). The Harmes deal is arguable but there is no doubt that if he has another good season other clubs would have gone after him. There is not a contract negotiated that is without risk. My only criticism is the Frost decision and that is debatable. In short, there are differing opinions. With Frost only time will tell.
  16. That accounts for your rapid mood swings particularly the rapid excitement and bold statements you are famous for. Now that could also describe the Donald. Looking forward to more big statements Ron so kept up the magic cocktail. I think we will need you in 2020.
  17. Agree. And perhaps your last two lines are the reason.
  18. Your right. Guess my point was that if a player wants to play regularly on the MCG (as a home ground), he has a choice of clubs.
  19. Collingwood, Hawthorn and Richmond play on the G as tenant clubs.
  20. For ECT treatment OD or heavy doses of mood elevating medication ?
  21. Lots of opinions that you can seek Moon when you need your neurological assessment. Very reassuring. I wonder if there is a test for those with the condition Melbourne Supporter Syndrome?
  22. Given his current symptoms he should never play again. He has another 60 plus years of living. Why would you risk your future life and well being for a game of footy ? Like playing Russian Roulette. It’s a case where Doctors and others should step in and say No, it is not worth the risk.
  23. We simply do not need another player with a history of chronic injury. A waste of time and resources trying to get another player fit to play with the high risk that he will breakdown again. Chronic hamstring injury is something that never goes away. Footy is stop start and requires sudden acceleration like a sprinter coming out of the blocks time and time again. A no for me.
  24. Tend to agree although at the time I thought he would be a good backup for Max but I am not even sure about that anymore. He is so clumsy in the air and on the ground.
