  1. It is sad that such great football family (Tuck/Ablett- Gary's sister is married to Michael Tuck) has such a history of substance abuse. I hope Travis can turn it around. He has all the markings of a good footballer, but substance abuse/addiction will ultimately destroy any athlete at any level. Sad day for Hawthorn fans.
  2. Trenners played his first season of footy and is now in our best 22. Nuff said.
  3. Reality is the dees have already run the knife through the senior list with 3 spots being made available. I expect more changes to come. Cheney is alright in my book. Lacks genuine speed and has some disposal issues, aside from that he reads the play very well and has something some footballers struggle to develop- courage. He will potentially be asked to move on the rookie list. McNamara might be offered a rookie spot again. Has a long way to go if he wants to get there at this level. If the club thinks he has had his time, he will be moved on. Bate to me was the big disappointment of 2010. I think he is safe for now. His name might pop up on the trade table but I do not think Bate is going anywhere. His career might hinge on his 2011 season.
  4. Cale Morton has talent to burn. He needs to find a way to apply it. Morton could be anything from a also ran to an AA. If he applies himself, has a big pre-season then he could really bounce back. Bate just needs to pick up a step or two in peace, and work on his aggression. I think the Axe is much closer to Bate than it is Morton.
  5. Nice Work Joeboy. Seems to be a pretty fair assessment of the list. Bate- big question mark.
  6. Anyone thing Bate will be tried as a pinch hitter in the ruck?
  7. Done. Tried it about 5 times just in case that counts for extra hits! Good luck!
  8. Drummond is a decent player IMO. I do sense he is chasing one last pay day so we might be best to stay away from him. Good player, but will ultimately get overpaid out of fear of a shallow draft. Pass on him, trade for someone else with less $$$.
  9. There is not a font for a sarcastic response so I am just going to go with "NO" on this one...
  10. Watch Essendon, Richmond and Carlton pounce. I think the dees are being a bit careful with their money given they will have to manage a list of up and coming stars (which is why Cam Bruce was asked this week to take a substantial pay cut). We have the cap space, but only for pieces of the premiership puzzle? Is Salopek a piece? Couldn't confidently say one way or the other right now. I do not mind Salopek, but I think our midfield is going to be a hard one to break into next season, even for someone like Salopek. If the price is right then why not (450-550k per year, in return give up our 1st round pick for this season and take back ports 3rd rounder?) Draft picks will be overrated this season, so to trade for Salopek could be a win for both clubs.
  11. Adelaide has Farmers Union Double Strength Iced Coffee!! We do not have that in Melbourne (just the standard variety). So not all is bad with the world.......
  12. I would rather stick my [censored] in a toaster than support Travis Cloke. The guy has to be the worst shot on goal in the AFL.
  13. Love it! I bet Freo is loving it more so.
  14. You cannot question this guy. Miller is a true clubman! I hope he can find what he is looking for. If not I would be chuffed to cheer for this guy every week at Casey Next season.
  15. He would not make our best 22. No thanks.
  16. Rischitelli is a good footballer. Given the draft concessions expect a player of his caliber to be overpaid. Essendon will give up its first rounder and give him a good 600k+ per year. Given that we have some kids who are still untried on our team, it would be unwise to overpay Rischitelli. Don't get me wrong, if Rischitelli came out and names the dees as his top destination I would maybe entertain the idea. But if a guy is chasing $$$ I think he will find them at and Essendon/Kangas and perhaps even the Tigers.
  17. The Broom is coming out! Best wishes to Bell and Miller!
  18. I thought Bail was a standout last week. Bennell can thank his lucky stars it was Bail dropped and not him. On Newton. No doubt has the skills. Early on in his career he had me thinking he was going to take Neitas spot when he retired. Truth is he has not taken a step forward for years. Whether you play him in the ruck or forward or wherever, one thing remains constant- he has no ticker! Skills a plenty, but with no heart you are not going to cut it at AFL level. Do we rookie list him next season? If the ruck/forward "swingman" role does become part of the game, there is no harm in giving him one last chance on a one year deal. Would he take the contract? If he wants to make it at this level it might be his only chance.
  19. Brad Green for me. He has blossomed into a leader over he past few seasons. If Moloney could string 22 game together he could be a darkhorse for captain.
  20. We are in a rare position right now that will allow us to spend tome developing players. Why? Because for the first time in YEARS we have some quality youth and depth. Why are we pressing Strauss to some on so quickly? So he can take Bail's spot? Bennell's spot? Trengove's spot? Scully's Spot? Watts' Spot? Grimes' Spot? It is going to be hard for all this youth to fit into the side. The best thing we can do is be patient and hope that the extra time to develop pays dividends. Strauss will mature, and hopefully he can click and push for a career at the top level. For now we wait. Question marks should be raised if he doesn't move forward after next season. Give him a go.
  21. Colour me surprised! This has hit me from the blindside. I thought he was coming back for one more. Seeing JNR hang up the boots will be like losing a good mate. He has been a true leader for us, and I will be sad to see him go. Thank you for all of the memories Macca. You will be hard to replace!
  22. Fit or not, Meesen is not part of our current or future plans. Good luck to him, I do hope he finds something that can keep him involved in football in the future.
  23. Given where Liam has come from, and how much he has had to learn, one can only say he has been a success story so far. He is a freak of nature, and hopefully he will grow as a player with each game he plays.
  24. I love this kid, and want to see him prove the haters wrong. NEVER have i seen such pressure from all supporters of any club. Everyone outside this club wants to see this kid fail. F*&k them all, I hope he turns out to be a dominant player for this club for the next 10 years. Extending him is the right move.
