  1. Not a great peformance, but nothing was going to look good in comparison to last week. Only played 2 good quarters of footy, but still won, and won ugly. That's what good sides have to do. Highlights for mine were: Sylvia: Playing like an absolute superstar at the moment. Would have 10 Brownlow votes from the past month I'd suggest. Joel Mac: one of the recruits of the year. Underrated. McKenzie: rookie list gem. Dunn's goals. All rippers. Watts, even though he still makes a handful of errors each game, is starting to do a hell of a lot more good than bad. He'll be a gem. Interesting that everybody loved Scully's game. I'm one of his biggest fans but I really wish he'd start looking up a bit more when he kicks. That poise will come with experience. Can't fault the guys workrate!!! All in all, pretty happy with 4 points. That's 7.5 wins now with 4 winnable games to come, 2010 will be a successful year for the MFC!!!
  2. Has turned into a handy player, hasn't he? Full credit to him because he really didn't look up to it 12 months ago. No doubting he has limitations, but he sticks to them and goes 110% every week. Can't ask for much more than that!
  3. 6 - Sylvia (GUN) 5 - McKenzie 4 - Dunn 3 - Jamar 2 - Joel Mac 1 - Garland
  4. 78, could not think of any in the last minute or so. Missed players such as Meesen, Pickett and Jace Bode, which is understandable. Biggest miss was probably Clint Bizzell. Also amazingly I put Ross Funcke's name in before David Neitz.
  5. We haven't played that well in 5 years I'd say. The last time we played anything nearly as good would have been Rd 3, 2005 when we absolutely torched the Cats under lights on a Friday night. Unfortunately that 2005 season fell away rapidly in the back but the thing about yesterday's performance is that it's a sign of things to come!! ps. Watched the replay last night and loved Bruce McAvaney's work, it was as if he was enjoying the game as much as us diehards!
  6. Frawley is an unbelievably good player, he really is. He's comfortably the best tall defender I've seen at Melbourne (been following since 1994) and yet his best is ahead of him. Incredible. Actually our defence as a whole is looking as good as ever, certainly as good as the rock solid Shanahan-Ingerson days of 1998. Joel Macdonald is one player I've really warmed to, maybe not a long-term player for the club but geeeez he is good 1 on 1. Still pumped! What a performance today!!!!
  7. In my opinion, the best of our abundance of young talent. Make no mistake, I don't think I've seen a player of his quality on our list in my time following the Dees (1994-2010). I have very little doubt he'll be an elite player and he'll get there pretty damn soon!
  8. Couldn't disagree more with the OP. Joel MacDonald played like Superman in the third quarter today and was good in the others. Bennell only needs 10 touches a game to have an impact - he is so dangerous up forward. And PJ, despite his limiatations, was great!!! For mine: Ins. Trengove, McDonald Outs. Moloney (INJ), Jones Jones was good after half time but someone needs to make way for the skipper and his first half today was abhorrent. Come to think of it, maybe Bate out ahead of Jones.
  9. 6 - T. Scully 5 - J. Frawley 4 - J. Bennell 3 - J. MacDonald 2 - P. Johnson 1 - R. Bail
  10. Re. Lonergan. No doubting it was a poor decision - but it looked like Jamar was about to crush him after Longergan had prior opportunity. Just a matter of the umpire blowing the whistle too soon. Watts' free was laughable as was the first 50m to Sylvia but the rest of the 50's were there in the letter of the law.
  11. How good was his pass to Bate at the end of the 3rd? Beckoned Bate to run into space and then delivered a perfect 55m kick to advantage. This set up Green's 4th and most important goal on the 3qtr time siren.
  12. 6 - Green 5 - Sylvia 4 - Jamar 3 - Dunn 2 - Bruce 1 - Garland
  13. Look I'm sure he's a good guy and gave his all etc. BUT Luke Williams is probably the worst player I've seen pull on the MFC jumper. Certainly in the last 10 or so years anyway. How he lasted so long on the list is one of life's great mysteries.
  14. Scully. just. Trengove is all class but Scully will be the game-breaker in years to come. Pretty happy with both!! haha
  15. 6 - Jamie Bennell 5 - Brad Green 4 - Neville Jetta 3 - Mark Jamar 2 - Brad Miller 1 - Jack Trengove
  16. so jetta is in for spencer. obvious change really and im not sure why DB didn't just do it on Thursday night.
  17. Can someone answer me this?
  18. 6 - Scully: Probably the most dominant game I've ever seen from an 18 year old. Unbelievable. 5 - Warnock: I thought he was awesome on Hall. 4 - Trengove: Second fiddle to Scully, but still an absolute gun. 3 - Bate: X-Factor up forward. 2 - Bruce: Very good. 1 - McKenzie: already in our top half a dozen or so most important IMO. Makes things happen.
  19. I'm not that old but I'd have to say Scully is the best young player I've ever seen at MFC... scary to think he's only going to get better because he was almost unstoppable tonight. 18 in the last FFS!!!!
  20. I think it will be pretty close. Trengove and Gibbs are similar sorts of players... although it took Gibbs 2-3 years before he started dominating games. Trengove is pretty much doing it already (IMO best on ground last night). Both classy players. Scully and Murphy are different types of players. Murphy is an absolute gun, but I just love Scully. As I said in the other thread he just moves and takes the game on like a young Chris Judd. I think he'll turn out better than Trengove and be an elite midfielder in a couple of years. Pretty close comparison but I'm stoked with Scullgove!!!
  21. 6. J.Trengove: easily his best game yet. Sheer class. 5. J. Frawley: even if Brown wasn't 100% he still couldve won the match for them. Chip is entering the elite FB category. 4. M. Bate: when he is on, he is REALLY on!!! 3. B. Moloney: having an awesome year. 2. N. Jones: likewise. 1. M. Jamar: just his presence... Really hard to put them in order and leave out 16 other players.
  22. Just wondering if anyone else sees the similarities between young Tom and a certain money hungry Carlton skipper? Not saying he'll end up as good but the way he moves is almost identical to Judd in his early years IMO...
  23. Is it just me or has Nathan Jones' disposal improved dramatically this year? I think the problem in previous years was a lack of poise leading to him blazing away, this year he has lowered his eyes a bit and is hitting his target a lot more than he used to. Technically I reckon he's a pretty sound kick. Close to BOG against the Tiges IMO.
  24. Bloody fantastic today. To be honest I thought he was just "biding his time" for the inevitable delisting at the end of the year. Until today. Very impressive... hopefully many more influential games to come!!
  25. IMO, just the one In. Sylvia Out. Bennell Bennell is far too soft, and Sylvia is obviously a certain in. I'd like to see Newton given a few more weeks to prove his worth, he is no worse than Miller in any case.
