I suppose the only thing missing from this left-field conspiracy theory is motive. Why on earth would anyone want to rig a B&F to ensure a tie? In fact, it would be in the club's benefit to not have a tie as you can bet that now both Gawn and Oliver will be receiving a little bonus in their contract for winning and Best and Fairest. Would be much cheaper to have one winner.
  2. I think it was Chris Pelchen that suggested. Gave zero details as to how it could be possible. No chance.
  3. When Geelong held their review at the end of 2006, the players held an ‘honesty session’. During this, Ablett Jr was confronted by the playing group and told, amongst other things, that he should have been their ‘Chris Judd’. The perception was that he had the talent to be more than a quality half forward flank. Petracca may play 200 games for the club and many of them will be quite good. He is capable of much, much more. He’s been making the right noises this off season about wanting to play midfield, and hopefully playing on ball for the final round gave him a glimpse of how much ground he needs to make up this preseason.
  4. Bid for Tom Green. If that’s matched (all but certain) I like the look of Young.
  5. He played well that day and it was a great win, but... his last touch was a clear throw that he was very lucky to get away with. If the umpire was even slightly tuned-in, it would have been a Hawthorn shot on goal at the siren.
  6. Last I heard we had offered three to trump Collingwood’s two. Four is a big escalation. Im a big fan and very happy to land him, but we must be very confident he’s got his body right.
  7. Champion of the club and one man who stood up when all around him fell. Focus on getting his body right and getting the most out of himself next year.
  8. I wonder what a big club like Hawthorn can afford to pay their specialist coaches..? Would love to get Yze back to the club but I’d take a guess that he’d be on a pretty hefty pay pocket compared to what we could offer.
  9. Absolute textbook technique- would have to be a leading candidate.
  10. The average AFL players wage by 2022 is expected to be 371K. Recruiting a player with 140 games experience for 400K a season is a good deal. We’d be paying him slightly above the average wage for a quality player who has played the 5th most games for his club.
  11. Not sure what this means... Established players we have recruited in recent years: Vince (2013) Garlett (2014) Melksham (2015) Hibberd (2016) Lewis (2016) Lever (2017) May (2018) All of these are / have been walk-up starts to our best 22 and have made a 'significant improvement to the team'. There's a B&F winner and multiple All Australian squad members. Add Langdon (likely), Tomlinson (likely) and Elliot (50/50) and our recruitment of established senior players has been quite strong.
  12. Ah the good old private school vs state school garbage... how inspired.
  13. Exactly; no point rewriting it. Richmond were filthy that they were missing out on Scully (a Richmond fan) due to Melbourne’s perceived tanking. If the Tigers had pick one, they were 100% not taking Dustin Martin.
  14. They were the consensus 1 and 2. Martin was never in the conversation.
  15. His football ability was rated below that of Trengove and Scully. I would be surprised if you could find any source from 2009 that rated Martin as the best player in that draft pool. Scully and Trengove were the consensus picks to that same extent as Rowell and Anderson are this year.
  16. What are we going to be paying him..?
  17. Give it to him!
  18. Gun. Some very fragile egos on social media are really struggling with this one.
  19. That’s a great story: First game. First final. First Grand Final. He’s efficient.
  20. Great young player destroyed by injury. His career died slowly and many forget (or choose to forget) how good he was in his first two years. One of my favourites.
  21. This proposal would work a lot better if you suggest the 'gun small forwards' we should target and what you'd be willing to give up to get them.
  22. I think it's just that it's a bit boring. It was rumoured all year and all but confirmed a month ago... nothing much the media can add to spice up an open-and-shut case.
  23. In no way could his interview have talked up his price. Elliot and his manager know we want him. Elliot and his manager know other clubs want him.
  24. Do you think in the meetings with Elliot and his manager Goodwin didn't say we'd 'you're a great player and we'd love to have you at the Melbourne Football Club.'? He's not going to 'neg' him: 'Jamie, you're terrible; no one else wants you; you're lucky to have us... sign now!' He is in demand with 4-5 clubs wanting him to choose them.
  25. I suppose it also reflects poorly on: Sydney Port Adelaide Essendon Carlton Bulldogs Geelong Also reflects pretty poorly on Fremantle too for not taking him at pick 4 when he was so obviously a 2 time Brownlow medalist. (Drafting is easy)
