I think I heard that Goody felt our game was in such good order- that he decided for the rest of the H&A season, we’d just play games and skip training.

The problem for our Wingers is that teams know we 1) won’t use the corridor and 2) don’t have the skills to attack the corridor if we do choose to use it. Teams setup down the line and Langers and Hunter have little room to work in. We will only improve if we back out defenders to win one on ones and stop protecting the turnover. Use the corridor and be attacking. Might leak some goals, but I think the opportunity to play exciting footy is what the team need to spark them. Goody footy is becoming like Ross Lyon, Longmire boring, safe, defensive carp..

Ok.. so change is need. Out- Grundy, ANB, Kosi, Harmes & Fritta In- JVR, Tomlinson, Woey, Laurie & Oliver. Bowey or Salem to spend midfield minutes, Laurie needed forward as he can actually hit a target. Petty forward with JVR and Brown.

Might be time for one of Gawn or Grundy to have a spell. Neither are playing well.

Kosi should play VFL next week.. ANB, Harmes, Smith all out as well.

I think we are loading.. The club has loaded the players up on the idea that are better than they are.. and the members/supporters loaded up on rhetoric that we are learning from things that keep happening. I think our coaches are loaded up with too much false hope. And if it goes [censored] up again this year, I hope we are loaded up with a new coaching group and an actual forward as a forward coach!

After some time off DL I have had some thoughts. Might be controversial, but given short turnaround. Ins Brown, Bowey, Woewodin, Tomlinson, Melksham Out ANB, Spargo, Langdon, Gawn(needs a rest), JVR (managed) I would move Woewodin to half forward, Joel Smith to the wing. Petty and Brown forward. Petty as 2nd ruck. Important to try and rest anyone carrying niggles. Langdon has been so poor- would love a different look on the wing. Note- I don’t have Oliver as getting up for this game.

There is no “learnings” from tonight. The game was a carbon copy of the game we lost in Geelong last year. Scrag Max and he drops his head Sweat on turnover as Melbourne fumble Switch when going forward

Feels similar to the Port loss.. wet night, we didn’t adjust and the opposition took opportunities by more composure

As always, AFL said Mansell should have opted to tackle, not bump.. only problem was he didn’t have the ball and he braced, not bumped. But hey, don’t let the truth get in the way of a squeaky clean image for the class action lawyers.

I agree on the point of dropping Spargo for Oliver, makes sense. I think with Hibbo, we will keep him in while his Achilles is okay, Bowey will swap when a rest is needed. The back 4 of McVee, Hibbo, Rivers and Hibbo are all in excellent form, so one will need to make way through form or injury as the year rolls on. Good problems.
