  1. Does anyone have any factual information on the length of injuries to hibberd, Wagner and frost?
  2. I agree with this. My concern is where weideman fits. Watts hogan and a resting ruckman is perfect. Once that ball hits the deck and we don't get first hands we will be cut in half if we are too tall. We played against wce with hogan watts weideman spencer and gawn. We could have won the game so it's not a disaster but our zone dee gets exposed if they can link up and run the ball between 30-50m out from our goal. They kick over our zone on the half forward and they get an overlap option the whole way down the field. The saints love that style of footy too. Savage, Newnes, Ross, Stevens are quick and good ball users. Riewoldt always provides an outlet on the wing. Our defence scrambles back on super fast ball movement. Makes Oscar/Tom look bad. Hunt so fast he nearly gets the spoil. We don't win with two B grade talls. Goodwin said in wce presser that we have to assess the size of the forward line. Spencer deserves it over weideman. Smith McDonald Vince Lewis McDonald Hunt Salem Oliver Stretch Petracca Watts Brayshaw Garlett Hogan Spencer Gawn Viney Jones Tyson Kent Bugg Jetta
  3. Are you saying spencer won't play because they are trialling jack in ruck?
  4. Morning, VFL gameday. With 17 approved to play today, is there any way to watch it on TV? What time does it start at Casey Fields? Getting very itchy fit... Tyson, Jetta, Garlett, Kent and Watts all best 22 and playing for spot. Cheers
  5. In: Viney Jetta (Tyson) Out: Jones Bail (Riley) They have given Jetta the extra week because this week is indigenous round and they wanted him fresh and didnt want to risk him. He is a lock for Chad - beat him last year, will do it again. Viney will 100% play. He adds so much to our midfield and makes oppositions look twice at the contest. Was on fire at the start of the season. Goodwin and the midfield coaches are creating mids that can play hard defensive games (viney v ablett - vince v danger, bont, cotchin) and then win it themselves. Very exciting. Tyson is the line ball - He will want to play, he had his best games against Port Adelaide last year earning 3 votes in each. We saw the emergence of VandenBerg the midfielder against the dogs (he said in his post game interview "loved getting more midfield minutes") - that is directly associated with Tyson being out of the team. Tyson loves a goal and i reckon they would work really well together, rotating through half forward and midfield together. It comes down to Riley or Newton making way if Tyson is fit. I dont think they will drop Newton because he is playing is old side and players always get up for that. Serious selection headache (best supporter feeling ever), because if Tyson comes in.... who plays the sub? Probably Toumpas because it is unfair for Newton against his old side. But then it puts Toumpas on the back foot after his best game. Goodwin persisted with him in the seniors. that was definitely his call and it paid off. Final comment: Alice Springs always slippery as... therefore definitely no luck for Gawn or Dawes. Additionally, Jack Watts is never much chop when its slippery and they are a very strong running team. Maybe you make Watts the sub so he is fresh when he comes on and can out run others. Riley the unlucky loser.
  6. Where did you pull this from? cant find it anywhere
  7. Couldn't agree more - he wasn't in the position to say it either after what he dished up. + his description of his injury was pretty soft. needs to improve.
  8. The way to beat Hawthorn. I understand we have been playing against premium midfields over the last two weeks but the issue is we are a high stoppage team and only have 1 ruckman. Whether it be Jamar or Gawn, it needs to happen. I like Gawn because he has learnt to take contested marks and is in marking form, which Jamar isnt. After watching the VFL game, Gawn should be the one getting called up. He killed Hawthorn last year too. (would be very disheartening for Jamar if he had to ruck 1-out in the VFL, however). Could even do a Spencer Pederson swap for Jamar Gawn - but Spencer got better as the game went on. Jetta definitely back and i reckon this should free up Jeremy Howe. He had 10 disposals with three rebounds. Like, they can cover 3 rebounds. Send him forward and let him take grabs and kick 3 inside 50's. That is where we need the help. He was born to play high half forward. He killed Fremantle with that cameo in the 2nd half - very difficult to match up on. He would almost demand Gibson or Stratton to be accountable, meaning Dawes and Hogan won't be double teamed. Grimes in to play a midfield/HB role, which he has been doing very well in the 2nds. He played majority out of the centre against sandy. JKH/Toumpas - I like them, and giving them continuity in the seniors does wonders for their games but they don't do enough - simply put, they break the chain from back 50 to forward 50. I reckon their GPS numbers would be high, but they don't run effectively yet. (dropping toumpas again will hurt him and his trade value) Really liked Watts as the sub. Stretch was the highlight. Michie close to recall - just way too slow with decision making after he takes a mark between the arcs but does find the ball. Tyson - getting double the attention to late last year. With Vince playing his new role and Viney out, Tyson is copping a much heavier load. Out: Pederson Toumpas JKH In: Gawn Jetta Grimes Garlett Hogan Gawn VandenBerg Dawes Howe Brayshaw Vince Cross Salem McDonald Lumumba Garland Dunn Jetta Spencer/ Jones Tyson Jamar Newton Stretch Grimes sub: Watts
  9. Could we please leave additional forum discussion on things that have nothing to do with the team/training in others forums.
  10. In my opinions and in review of the game, Shannon Byrnes is a major liability. In every game he has played for us since arriving, he hasn't got through without being caught with the ball. Time and time again he is the break in the chain after we have expended energy causing the turnover in the back line and rebounding. He mucks it up on our half forward line. His experience isn't helping on game day. He should provide a match day support role on the boundary line. Cameron Pederson isn't great but he isn't built to be our power forward and his role is to support. He kicked three behinds, one of which made me smash my beer bottle in the final quarter. You wonder what might have eventuated if he kicked that. (14 points - 5 mins) He is too heavy for modern AFL but at the same time there is no one else. He will play this weekend and play in the forward line. Lets hope he kicks straight. There is no one else. Max Gawn will no doubt be included this week. He had a great patch up forward early last year where he kicked a couple in each game as we again had to have a makeshift forward line. Being tall he will take another tall hackmen from west coast. In addition, I expect Fitzpatrick to also play. If healthy. It is the only way forward. He can mark on the lead and will provide a link from the back line to the forward line if he plays centre half forward. Keep him away from the goals. If hogan is healthy, then he will replace Pederson. A bonus. But we know what roos is like. stubborn with his selection of young players and unhealthy ones. So what have you got: A tall forward line at worst, with Pederson, Fitzpatrick and Gawn. What this creates is our high flyer being loose in attack. Because we all know he is the most likely to kick a bag/a winning melbourne score. Blease has to play!!!! If you watch his natural ability he actually has a very similar attacking game to dangerfield. Obviously without any class but if you remember, roos said last year. I cannot wait to provide blease with the opportunity to show some continuity. Neeld/craig always had I'm in and out. He likes blease. We need blease to improve. He will play this weekend. So you leave out Byrnes and JKH. (i like JKH but we are here to win and he will be much better learning his craft quickly scoring bags in the VFL against men). Then have a toumpas, trengrove or bail who all seem to have the ability to take a mark inside 50 running through unmarked. (If only bail could kick straight - every year he has more behinds than goals) I believe we don't actually need a small forward because we don't have a great one but rather the opportunity to lock the ball inside the forward 50 and have our midfield class hold it in and score from there. This is only possible with something to kick to otherwise they rebound before we can adjust... Mckenzie will come back. He is ready. He should replace byrnes. With blease replacing JKH. Would love Viney half injured but I'm not on the match commitee. in other news: Watts is a midfielder, don't move him. We talk about not having a leader: could someone please find me the figure from when the last captain of a football club - didn't register a tackle in the opening round of the season. This sort of effort is deplorable. Roos should have him in the office for an eye to eye. On dawes: This is a calf complaint... strap it up and get on the park. He hasn't played for three weeks and has three weeks to go... I've never heard of a calf complaint taking 6 weeks. On clark: He would have watched the game on the weekend and been impressed and must be spurred on to make a speedy recovery knowing the effect he would have on our forward line. Expect to see him off the injury list before the 8 weeks. (if thats possible)
  11. I know we had a terrible defeat on the weekend but the support has to stay. It was only NAB cup and Hawthorn is exceptional. All local melbournian demon fans that are unemployed or not actively seeking work should be on the sidelines making notes or taking photos. Im an interstater... Im dying to hear how training has been since the loss. Does anyone have any updates regarding our forward line. Will Dawes and/or Hogan be playing round 1? Will Jack Viney play round 1? What was Roos like at training?
  12. hello all, I was wondering if anyone could send me a link of some photos of the players throughout the off season. Or where i could find some snaps of the boys training?
