take out last season and double check his win/loss percentage, then get back to me...
-
i am not interested in allegations, medical records or what was said. but you make a good point here. if 7 knew the records were stolen they could be in all sorts of problems...considering they paid for the documents. and given this is the case, i guess we are never going to hear officially what was in them...

Match of the Century (Tank Talk Merged)
deanox replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
if we get him, i vote we nickname him tank. good double meaning there... -
i think you make some real good points here. bizzell was great for 'a couple of seasons'. before that he played for geelong, and he has had 2 average seasons since...he has only played with the club for 5 years for 84 games...yes he has played some footy, but not the same favourite son as nathan brown... ferguson and ward? well a quick web search reveals they are both guitarists (one rock, one flamenco jazz) but they are not the bios i was looking for. ward has played since 1998, thats 10 years of football for the club, (about 120 games) and i think that deserves a decent send off, his efforts will get him life membership will they not? ferguson is 26, has never justified a senior spot, and despite having great courage has never played a game for the dees when you would think wow that guy could be something. he hasnt got to 50 games so far in a 5 year career at the club. he just goes. thanks for playing, we appreciate it, but he doesnt need a big send off game...

could you tell us what happens if a team cannot field 22 players due to injury or other reasons? does the afl allow us to play rookies? promote any players we want? or do we automatically forfeit?
-
i agree with that 100%. i still have queries over carroll but he does the job. a true CHF would be much more valuable to the team. i rate bate, but i think he is a tall flanker or a really big mid at the moment, not a genuine CHF. if we could have newton at FF, bate and dunn on the flanks with a genuine CHF in the middle our forward line would look a lot better in the coming 10 years. i think a great point is made about the lack of mid field feed. our kicks havnt hit targets, our forward lines are congested, we cant win a clearance. it makes it hard for our forwards. jones and mclean know how to win the ball, but we are struggling with players breaking lines and finishing with class. we have missed trapper in parts this year, but still need someone with leg pace - thats why davey has been played in the centre, and its a case of robbing peter to pay paul. a speedy mid would help us two fold, davey back to the forward pocket and break the lines getting the ball to our forwards faster...

very good point. add rivers back to the mix and our backline looks very different...we need to draft another key back yes, but we could also use a genuine ruck replacement (kreuzer type), a genuine CHF and a couple of quick midfielders. personally you have to pick the best available...which means if there is a quality tall you take him, but if not we will probably pick a quick mid or two. we could really use another line breaking mid, rover type, who will complement jones and brock on the outside...

from what i can tell their presentations were outstanding. good enough to get them through the process. much more so than the 3 you mentioned...

Demonland Tipping Competition - Round 21

i could still get 2nd WJ, any chance you want to tell us your password to the oztips site? could make it an interesting friday night if we did your tips for you. lol -
no you have a fair point. i am lazy and dont when i use the net. bt i think one can read what ive written and work it out pretty easily... the spelling is reasonable, and any abbrev. are easy enough to understand. i dont believe the capital letter issue effects anyones ability to read and comprehend my posts...although a 'senior member of the academic community' had a problem when i sent him a 3 line email and didnt use capital letters, the response to which was quite amusing...

cheers. im not an expert on these sorts of things but thats the way i tend to see it. i would assume it is much more complex than that. and it would be fair to say that conditioned athletes would better accept a shock or collision than you're average joe, and i think the same would be true within athletic fields - if you are trained to take shocks and bumps you are less likely to be injured by them ie rugby players compared to soccer players (but this comparison is made different again because each sport has different demands...) the twisting of a knee or shoulder due to an awkward landing, the jarring of a knee or ankle when diving for a mark or broken bones and concussions from impact injuries are unpredictable and most likely unpreventable imo. OP and soft tissue injuries can be prevented through a range of core strength and condition methods, but this doesnt eliminate them, it just helps to over come incumbent weaknesses (ie if you have weak core strength in the right of your body, i believe you are more likely to have a soft tissue injury occur on the left due to excess strain etc, by evening these up and strengthening all core strength you will help minimise your chances). however it needs to be remembers that this is sport at a level where it pushes the boundaries of what your body can do. they jump the highest, they run til they throw up, then run some more. kicking while running at 100% puts amazing strain on your hamstrings, other actions put strain on other muscles...

out of interest does anyone know what happens if we are unable to field 22 fit players on our list? it is too late to elevate a rookie...
-
but it is a bit embarrassing that not only is the spelling so poor that some words are nigh on impossible to make out but that the grammar is poor also, meaning there are random words in a row that dont really construct a sentence. no one minds some abbreviations but you have to write something comprehensible...
-
yeah a pretty common mistake :S lol
-
well they stood up mentally today...
-
not nessecarily. think of it this way. the stronger players are more likely to have more muscle and thus be heavier. if you are heavier and are moving at a constant speed you have more momentum than if you are lighter and travelling at the same constant speed. if you are forced to stop in a short distance (ie a collision) the heavier body actually has more energy which it needs to dissipate in the same short distance, thus there is more force on the body. strength as in weight lifting will make it easier for you to push someone away, it will make it harder for you to run 14 kms but it doesnt necessarily increase the shock resistance of muscles, bones and ligaments in joints...

it is worth noting a few things about the scribes and the phantom drafts. firstly i bet that the authors dont watch nearly as much junior footy or have the contacts that an afl recruiter does or has, and i bet that many of their judgements are made based on 'common knowledge' type assumptions rather than actual first hand accounts. secondly those reports often seem to focus on what club x really needs is a y type player, and their selection is based around that...this also doesnt always happen. that being said, i do enjoy the read of some fantasy drafts, and of people like wisbys reports...

ding ding ding...and its on!

sorry guys, it was meant more as a sarcastic comment than anything but i will put this out there: when we played in adelaide against port a few weeks ago we didnt take any emergencies, and the following match, all our emergencies played for sandy prior to our game. why then do we bother to send an emergency to perth this week? imo opinion we should always send 1, or 2 emergencies interstate. however im going with either there is a definite late withdrawal this week, or warnock gets the free trip home. and why warnock over bizz? bizz has the better form, and has performed well for the dees? so unless there is a planned late withdrawal my bet is its a free ride home.
-
it speaks volumes of our club atm, that the travelling emergencies are picked on home state and whos brother plays where doesnt it?
-
so we we need 6 injuries this week to have 21 available for next week...robbo neitz and wheatly can be put out to pasture...is there anyone else in that boat?
-
yze_magic, i dont think we can trade bruce because we signed him up this year. heffernan rule.
-
ok so robbo needs to rest his knee, wheatly needs to get his shoulders right, we only need 2 other injurie and we could tell the afl that we officially have to forfeit against carlton because we dont have enough players, thus giving them the four points, avoiding the farce of a game in round 22 and getting us the priority pick
-
worth noting that with 11 goals he is only 1 goal from being the equal 5th goal kicker at melbourne this year (sylvia has 12) even though he has only played 8 games. he hasnt kicked heaps, no one else has, and he has played mostly as a forward, but he is performing reasonable for a first run in the seniors...

Match of the Century (Tank Talk Merged)
deanox replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
it would be interesting if the afl came out and changed the rules in the week leading up to the game for those exact reason...maybe they could say winner will get the priority pick? or do a toss before the game. but no matter who you are, you cannot claim that there will be no conflict with winning this game for both sides...
