  1. Given we have had Frawley and Pettard injured pre season and that two out of three of the 2nd year players is struggling what did you expect to achieve? Its easy in hindsight but when do you cash in your season to say "play the youth". I would have thought the first four rounds is a cop out on the season.
  2. The 20 minutes against StK prior to when McLean went down was illuminating. Our application and skills was crud then. We continue to let ourselves down with flaky application and skill execution from our so called best players to our fringe. (With some admirable but few exceptions).
  3. Scoop I could not agree more. And your earlier post was on the money too.
  4. I agree with your general sentiments but Miller and Pavlich are chalk and cheese.
  5. "There is none so blind as he who will not see." Great stuff Jack nailed yourself in one.
  6. This Holland's last year so I dont know if there is any substance in that PJ support. I am not sure what PJ's future is.
  7. I am not a Miller fan but I give him credit for working his ass off trying. Miller will never be the mercedes benz and will always make the Miller errors but I acknowledge he still does some capable things. Carroll was never a match for Pav. Few in MFC are. But we get clipped in the midfield blokes like Pavlich will hurt you every time. I would persevere with Carroll. But FCS, Ferg has to come in for Hall and O'Loughlin????? He matches up on well on neither. Last year the Swans played a 4th gamer Grundy out bodied him twice for a contested mark. I have seen enough of Ferg.
  8. FWIW, its worth its not a matter of luck when you are dealing with players within the first 20 or so picks. Picks out 40 plus you are beginning to "punt". We have done poorly with Molan, Smith, Breeze. Only one game out of them in total and injuries are only shallow excuses for poor selection. All were delisted now. None taken by other clubs. There was another player (Rodgers?) we took at 25 in a draft and failed with us and the failed at Sydney. A further issue was the draft penalties in 1999 and 2000 which robbed us of potential quality players who would now be 7 to 8 years players and in their prime. The problem we lack are champion players in the senior ranks. Players like White Yze Bruce and TJ have had good days over their careers but none have taken the next step. Its not good enough. TThe younger players still have to justify themselves. I think the Club will be mature and deal with the Daniher issue with respect and dignity
  9. I dont see how the bidding system gets you to a market position there. The bidding system offers the other Clubs to chance to rail road a FS pick without having to show their hand How would a Club jeopardise its future getting a player like Tommahawk? I also think the FS club get screwed as they have to nominate a player for FS and then the other Clubs have the opportunity to trump them.
  10. Correct Rogue. Gouga has raised a good point. What will do if they pinch hit McPharlin forward. FWIW, I hope they prove me wrong but Wheatley or Bizzell on Pav.....Please.
  11. If Col plays due to a latre withdrawal he will be that short of a gallop he will struggle off the bench. If Moloney is a late withdrawal, I would play Pettard. I just dont think Col is fit.
  12. I rather he got through the game used the ball well and his hamstrings did not go ping. The best way to hit Freo is to make them 0 and 4. THen we will get the thread saying we should get Connolly as coach!
  13. Jack, Lamb amongst his other limitations, lacked pace and conditioning. His judgement under pressure was suspect. Your rendition is a lovely myth of the type that gets perpetrated on this site without any fact. Its reptition does not engender its truth. If Lamb was so good how what is that other Club never bit when he was offered for trade? Hmmmmm! I totally agree with you Ferg is as good as Lamb was. It was not the Ferg was told. Its just that he actually not strong enough and too slow. Cheers Rhino
  14. I think the FS principle can stay subject to some changes: 1. The 3rd round draft pick rule is aribitrary and can potentially deliver an unfair gold mine to clubs eg Tommahawk. I would like to say CJ but I think its premature. 2. I think that the AFL needs to be providing an "independent" ranking of the players eligible for the draft including father/son candidates and use that as a basis to determine whether a Club has to use a 1st, 2nd or 3rd draft pick. 3. I think the Club eligible for FS should have first dibs on the kid at a more realistic market value than the 3rd pick. I dont like the bidding system as it allows other Clubs first dibs. It will also allow backroom deals between Clubs which makes the process messy. Finally, I dont know if there are any qualified geneologists out there but I dont know if it applies that a former great player's kids will be as good as their father. Robbie Flower's son wasnt. Ken Hunter's son certainly wasnt. Gary Ablett's sons are not a touch on their legendary father. FWIW, Hawkins dad was just a player at Geelong. There is no evidence beside a concocted myth that any of the Hawks great's sons will be any good and if they were they have been crushed by the expectation and culture at their father's club.
  15. Good luck to Rama. If he comes through it might be one of the few good news stories this year in football. And we need them in spades.
  16. Your Highness, I dont know if Selwood is guilty or innocent. I believe he went some form of a derogatory sexual slur at Headland and not necessarily at his daughter. For that I dont have a lot of respect for him. However, there have been no winners in this. Selwood has been seriously defamed. Headland has proven himself a flaky unreliable goose that has compromised his daughters standing more than Selwood. The AFL's lack of mediation facilitation arrangements have poured petrol on this problem and left the tribunal to access a matter that clearly it is not equipped to do. And the Press and talk back radio has well and truly highlighted that the sickness they criticise is very much the sickness they possess. Everyone lost and we are all the lesser for it. I hope some lessons are learnt from this. I fear not.
  17. Careful Vibes. That is too much truth for so many experts here Outstanding post and I look forward to further. FWIW, I have quoted the whole post because it is worth repeating. As Finks said "Gold".
  18. Take a tablet YM. I doubt whether either will happen.
  19. The regrettable outcome requires the AFL to be able to take these things to a mediation process. Currently there is no avenue to do this under the AFL match review rules. I actually feel sorry for Selwood who has been seriously defamed and had his good name absolutely muddied as a consequence of the past 72 hours and should be talking to his lawyer about his options.
  20. I agree Ferg and Chris Lamb are similar. They are not up to AFL. So what did PJ show as a ruckman last Sunday? That his big failing and thats why he is not selected as a ruckman ahead of Jamar. Jamar has been pedestrian so where does that put PJ? Given Rivers and Bizzell are back I am not sure whatever good deeds he did in the back line count.
  21. How would you or any supporter know what the impact of an assistant coach is whether it be at MFC, Freo or else? Shooting darts at board with a blind fold on.
  22. I completely and utterly agree. Only the ICC could stuff it up any further.
  23. No. In future dont use me as a reference on something that is not factually true. Thanks
  24. Like winning 10 out of 11 games in row last year playing negative football.
