  1. Ellis's position was compromised by an ACL injury.
  2. Ash needs to raise the standard over there. Hardly scintilating stuff!
  3. You clearly dont apply such high standards of behaviour to players of other Clubs. You have not started well so far and you might want to read a bit more before you attack posters like Ash. I second Old's comments about Ash and he most welcome to post here. He is a cut above the standard.
  4. For someone trying to demonise someone for not achieving your moral high ground your performance is definitely well below sea level.
  5. Firstly, does the "PLAY THE KIDS" posse have any idea where the actual fitness or readiness to play of any the kids they tout or do they all go gooey just at the Chariots of Fire type romance of having a first gamer regardless of whether the player is fit or ready for AFL and whether there were better options? For the record, Pettard has just recovered from injury and needed a run a Sandy to establish fitness and continuation of the form he showed pre season. I am gob smacked how he could have played earlier but I am sure the "PLAY THE KIDS" faction has all the answers. Frawley who is out injured would have played earlier if fit. Buckley is still to show he has the consistency at Sandy to deliver at AFL. Newton is not there yet. Weetra has just returned from injury. Garland is a selection that reflects the extent of the injuries to KPPs Secondly, there are a number of sub 4-year players and experienced players who are both floundering in the absence of key players and dealing with their own form crisis. Hardly a conducive time to intoduce on mass junior players many of whom would have been underdone. I am sure there will be those that say Collingwood did it and look at them. Collingwood had close to their strongest line up (bar Buckley) and provided a more established platform to ease youngsters into the fray especially as they had given signs that this would be a potential development year given they traded Tarrant.
  6. Your Highness you are spot on. I have no issue players changing clubs for more money. Football is an uncertain, risky career and players deserve to get their economic worth from the system. The spite in this thread should not undermine the fair achievements of Nathan Brown. He has been crippled at his peak and I wish him well in his recovery. For the record here are his achievements in AFL which are significant. Player honours: Richmond 3rd best and fairest 2004; All-Australian 2001, 2002; International Rules Series 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004; Bulldogs leading goalkicker 2002, 2003; Morrish Medal 1996. He is as a much a star as some of the MFC boys labelled as such on this site.
  7. Alternatively type in Demons in the Age and Herald Sun website search engines and read the articles. Do the legwork!
  8. Newton would merely stagnate and rot in the 2s. He has shown that he clearly has way more talent than that grade. Unfortunately he can do all this without having to perform consistency. He is learning none of the disciplines required for senior football there. i agree it would be nice to have him as FF. With Sautner at FF he is going to struggle to get a look in. So by playing him up in the midfield he gets to be in the play more regularly and be more focused with his game.
  9. Better than he has played for the past twelve months. Does it change my stated view of him? No it vindicates my position totally.
  10. I would have thought our injury list has been miles more defining than anything Y M could muster. This and the next 3 weeks are against the top teams in the competition and we will still not have our best cattle on the track.
  11. My thoughts exactly Ash. And its ironic that Y M has a history of spiteful posts (that have been rightly deleted by other mods) aimed at the MFC footy dept and players when we lose. Ex Senator Santo Santoro was more reliable.
  12. Fully agree Graz. Another professional and mature performance by him. Its a far far improvement on Gutnick.
  13. For some one who has persistently and ignorantly bagged any tactical initiative undertaken by ND and the football department you would on your own form to date miss the irony and hypocirsy of your position. You're a prize example of the conservative thinking you sarcastically and witlessly attack.
  14. I agree on Wheatley. He is a perennial and unserving recipient of criticism on this site. On the other hand, the omissions of experienced players Ward & Bizzell is a telling sign. FWIW, Bizzell is one of the most overrated players on this site who has been dubious value in senior football since 2004. He has received incredible kudos on the back of 2002/2003. Hell that's a long time ago. Its interesting those who criticise his demotion have not put forward who he would necessarily match up on. Figures. Good luck to the new guys. Enjoy the experience. It will be a hard start.
  15. Its not meant to be. I actually trying to rationally assess Miller capabilities and contributions. We actually on the same plane. I have said repeatedly that Miller despite his gallant efforts just does not cut it as a CHF and I think he has more hope being a nullifying defender. But in the short term given our injuries he has to stay where he is.
  16. Not at all. Judd at draft time was as capable as the others Ball and Hodge. All have been great for their club. The Saints drafting Clarke, De Santo and Maguire had nothing to do with the Judd issue. FWIW, its worth Del Santo and Maguire were inspired selections at 13 and 21 especially when you think what we did with Pick 9.
  17. We traded Jolly for Dunn in 2004. Jolly was injured early in 2004, White starred and was AA that year. When Jolly played later that he floundered in the AFL and sulked and said he would leave. What was the Club to do, limit the time of an AA ruckman to give a player who could not substantiate a senior spot game time at the expense of the team. He had a golden opportunity to play finals in 2004 but blew it with his insolent attitude. He did not want to play 2nd fiddle to White. He wanted to leave and the Club traded him on the market rather than risk him sulking to the PSD 12 months later and MFC getting nothing. Its no surprise Roos played him off the bench at the Swans behind the underrated Jason Ball at 34yo. The Swans realised their plight with Jolly and Doyle last year and gave up their first pick to get a 34yo Everitt. He looks better with a superior ruckman in the same side.
  18. Welcome on board. We were this close to getting him... 2001 National Draft 1 Luke Hodge Hawthorn Geelong Falcons 2001 NAT 2 Luke Ball Saint Kilda Sandringham Dragons 2001 NAT 3 Chris Judd West Coast Sandringham Dragons 2001 NAT 4 Graham Polak Fremantle East Fremantle 2001 NAT 5 Xavier Clarke Saint Kilda St Marys 2001 NAT 6 Ashley Sampi West Coast South Fremantle 2001 NAT 7 David Hale Kangaroos Broadbeach 2001 NAT 8 James Bartel Geelong Geelong Falcons 2001 NAT 9 Luke Molan Melbourne Geelong Falcons 2001 NAT Truth is we were never in the hunt. The top 3 stood out in that year and were clearly superior to others. Each of Ball, Hodge and Judd have been great value to their sides . The next three have been flaky. We came 11th in 2001.
  19. He would be crazy and foolish to do so. No need to fall on his bayonet at this point. Little achieved by having him immobile and restrained in his kicking. Only risk making a terrible problem worse. I would rather have him back fully fit in a couple of weeks.
  20. Damn ND for going out and trying to win the game. Gee that's mediocre of him Who would replace Whelan and Wheatley if they were out? Which of the kids would take those roles? FCS, some people chirp like parrots about "Play the kids" "Play the kids" and prepared to wave the white flag on a season without a second thought for the fitness, development and positioning of these players.
  21. What a neanderthal piece of logic that is. Headland actions were crude and reckless. He should have been suspended. The fault for the overturning of the ban was the AFL tribunal. They should be getting the raspberries not the player. BTW, this has to one of the most appalling threads on this site for a while quite free of any football substance and full of the bile that highlights the baseline thinking of the mug supporter. Its disappointing throughout. Some of the posters submitting here are better than participating in the juvenile sprays being littered around.
  22. Ahem. So what was your solution with Jolly in 2004? Get rid of an AA ruckman and retain a 200 cm sulk. Jolly has excelled so much at Sydney they had to get Everitt when they realised his shortcomings. Simmonds wanted to be a first ruck at the end of 2001 and we were developing Jolly. Jamar and PJ are struggling but good ruckman do not grow on trees and there are so few good ones around. MFC has a challenge to develop a post Jeff White ruck strategy.
