  1. I am talking about this year! <_<
  2. No he has not been exceptional. He has been good and this season was offering him the chance to step up to the next level. Even without the pre season his continual inability to win the ball and the numerous times he has been badly pinged holding the ball do raise concerns. "Injuries are an excuse" is an extremely simple way of viewing things. Its allows people to see what they want to see and at the moment its 2/5ths of very little from Brock.
  3. I look at what I am currently getting out of a 2nd season player like Nathan Jones and I compare it what I getting out of Brock McLean. Stop falling behind the over blown expectations of supporters. On any reasonable metric he is barely serviceable. And its a worry for our supposed future captain. Make all the excuses you like. Sylvia needs to step up too. I am happy to give an objective view on him as well. But it does not hide some issues with Brock.
  4. How about we compare McLean with Jones? <_< I agree with you on TJ and Pickett. I cant believe we got so close with those two playing.
  5. Scoop-- Bate did his ankle earlier in the game and could not run but he epitomised the fighting spirit and played on and made the best contest he could. THe last vote you could have split between a number of players.
  6. Its even more hilarious when those blinded to it continually make some of the silliest excuses for him. He was recruited as an insude midfielder. He does not get the ball and cant shake a tag. My expectations are not unreasonable. Next year is his fifth year. He has to produce. Brock McLean came into 2007 as one of the three most important players in our line up with Rivers and Neitz. He has not passed the metric. He is a high first round draft pick and a preferred choice of captain. He should get used to greater focus.
  7. I hope he does. But saying he has injuries is a perfect way to mask the reality of his game. Its poor. Yze had people fooled for the past 3 years with his game on the account he ws playing injured. Sure.
  8. 6. N. Jones 5. N. Brown 4. D. Neitz. 3. J.McDonald 2. B.Green 1. M.Bate
  9. Talk it up Jaded and make excuses, but Brock has been ordinary for quite some time this year and it isn't all injury.
  10. Who said he should be traded? He has put in a long line of shockers this year and if he runs out on the ground he is accountable for his performance. Its not good enough. And he has been one of major disappointments this year. And there have been a few. He needs to produce next year..his 5th season. Its payback time.
  11. 4 to 6 weeks at least even without considering his carry forward points. The contact is as bad as it can get. AFL needs to make a statement about this. Johnson should be out until well into 2008.
  12. Brock McLean was not good again tonight. You are right about Pickett and TJ is a wasteful lazy footballer who plays like a millionaire with no money. Sterling stuff in the second half by the young guys, Dogga Brown and McDonald! We were insipid in the first half with few exceptions.
  13. Good post. I think the hands in the back in rule has suffered dramatically from flip flopping interpretations by the umpires. The direct play on rule is a mixed blessing in that in one way in promotes a quicker game but on the other hands often champions the player that may have let their own opponent run off then charged off the get the easy possession on the kick out. The time it takes the umpires to bounce the ball is dependent on the TV stations returning from an ad break! Four rules I would like worked on: 1. The repugnant practice of holding the ball underneath or dragging the ball back underneath an opposing player to claim holding the ball. 2. Prior opportunity or at times the lack thereof. 3. Clearer and formal disclosure of interpretation of the deliberate OOBs. 4. Penalising the faking for free kicks
  14. Ash, whats your opinion on why Essendon move pre-emptively to go public on not renewing Sheedy's tenure? Were they caught up in the Voss hysteria? If their targets are Williams and Thompson then surely they could have sounded them out first prior to causing all the instability with Sheedy. I would not be surprised if the two targets have been on the list for months. <_<
  15. I think there is every reason for concern about Moloney's future. 2008 is a make or break year fitness wise. Its bad luck for the bloke.
  16. All we can take out of any of the "news" issued by SEN and others is that they just dont know and are mixing speculation with assumptions in the absence of fact in much the same way this site analyses coaching prospects. FWIW, it was always planned that the new coach would be named/appointed the week after R 22. Nothing new there.
  17. Here is a link: http://demonology.midnight.net.au/footyfla...%20jakovich.mp3 Interesting interview about an interesting player. Definite could have been....anything. On his day....a one man excitement machine that would win the day..Only player I have seen similar is Jeff Farmer at his red hot best. Off his day.....a disaster who lost focus and discipline. His first two years were unbelievable. His last two years were up and down. I thought Glen was a little bit cagey in discussing his brother. I did not get a strong sense of warmth between them and that they both do their own thing in separate parts of the world. Aside from the rapidity of his goal kicking he did have days when he seem to kick a lot of points with his goals. His day out against North he kicked 11.7. Kicked the hard ones and missed some sitters. I recall a day at Western Oval he kicked about 4.8. My favorite moment was against Collingwood when he kicked a great goal, pulled his guernsey over his head and then went flying around the forwrdline with his arms out stretched pissing Mick McGuane off no end. Another good time when he kicked a goal against Essendon from 50m on the boundary line at 1/2 time and then running hard to players race gestured confidently to the other players to follow me. Inspirational day. I think he kicked 8 out of a winning score of 13. For a player who could kick both feet, I never saw Jakovich handball. Its a pity he did not have his brothers dedication and application to succeeding. For all his ability he was an ordinary trainer, questionable fitness and dietary focus and poor rehabilitation record. Fizzled out at Footscray in mysterious circumstances after less than one year. Its a pity he did not focus on his game and become a 10 year footballer with MFC. An enigma.
  18. You have to be prepared for someone to take a speccy on you and not the other way around! B)
  19. Correct Nasher. However, if you were an umpire you would probably be so far behind the play and....hang on...thats an AFL umpire People who cant play the game can choose a number of important and undervalued roles at all levels of footballer. Umpiring is one way. Another is at the community level through honorary roles. More power to those people that do it. For the life of me, I dont know what it is in people's make up that feel a need or right to abuse those that are so important to the fabric of the game at all levels.
  20. You missed these.... Hard ball gets: Contested clearances: <_< Tackles: 1.5 B) Smothers: Defensive spoils in marking contests:
