  1. Its not a PP1 or pick 4 choice. If Pick 4 is an out and out star...great. It will help. But not having PP 1 will hurt us more than you think. It is a moot point. And for the record Old 55 is rarely black and white but he is going grey slowly.
  2. I think the point is that it going to be tough enough for MFC to win a premiership in the next 5 to 7 years anyway. There are so many aspects to AFL where MFC start well behind other Clubs eg finances, supporters, facilities etc. Even if we had all the draft picks that we wanted and used them correctly we are only just a chance of challenging with no certainties. Its critical that we make the most of the opportunities before us. Scully is looking like a blue chip ball magnet and is critical for us to develop a capable midfield lead by elite players like Scully. We dont have them and no certainty to develop them woth what we have. Scully looks to be our best opportunity. And if we dont get that right then our bare chance at challenging will become remote. And Old 55's comment has merit. Its not black and white as you would like to construe it.
  3. Re read the post and think again. And also ask yourself the same thing as you avoided my question that you failed to answer which is also linked to my answer. And good luck Not having a good day at all bobby.
  4. I guess you believed Bill Clinton when he said that I smoked pot but I did not inhale. If that was to happen, when Jim Stynes returns to full health he would be right to ask some pointed questions of key people as to why they blew a rare opportunity. You are correct 45HG in your post. What would people honestly expect the Club to say.
  5. its not a Tom Scully or bust issue. The issue is whether we would be better off with Tom Scully than not having him notwithhstanding that picks 4 and 20 are good or not. Would we not be better with PP 1 in addition to picks 4 and 20? Your favouring of the 4 wins policy should give a hint.
  6. Good work CTD. Richmond vs Melbourne is a crucial game if you assume that MFC will beat Freo. Your analysis assumes that none of the five teams will not win any other games. Fair enough. I trust that is wrong with Freo and Richmond. Oops! just noticed you have not listed Freo vs WCE at Subi on July 25. Have you assumed WCE in your 24 points?
  7. Re read and trying and think this time. Its not that hard Words of one syllable wont help you. And repeat the above direction. I sure you will do better this time if you are even the smallest bit creative. Take the challenge BTW Hannibal sums it up in regard culture.
  8. Its irrelevant to the argument you put forth about buliding a list of capable player from late in the draft. And its misplaced that MFC would get a Carlton like reputation. Carlton have honed it over a number of decades. We have been that bad this year it would be a travesty of justice not to get the PP. We have three clubs that we have played or will play in a couple of weeks that have dogged it. Do you ever think that the moments of joy for the players would be greater next year and beyond if they actually had better quality players to sign the song with and do so with a greater probability of doing it each week?
  9. Winning comes from have a list of capably skilled players to effect that outcome and the culture that emerges. Dont put the cart before the horse. Over 15 years, your list of stars (excluding the past its and FSs) would not be sufficient to assemble a premership side. Its like going to the casino and try to lob your money on the winning number in roulette every time and relying on that to make your fortune in life. It is barely possible but the probability is........
  10. Exactly right. I would have thought the Football Dept should have a big influence on that outcome.
  11. Definitely not. Most young sides actually tire after a long season to date.
  12. Ablett and Brown were father son selections who would have gone as top 6 pick in his year if they were not so connected. Doug Hawkins a standout pick at No 84 and in CAPS too????? You have to be joking. A washed bitter footballer when he left Western Bulldogs who joined a washed up finished club like FItzroy in its final year. Geez you can build a premiership around talent like that. Your effort only substantiates the reason why we need to get the best picks possible. You have sifted approx 15 years of draft data to cherry pick selections to substantiate your flaky argment while the true evidence that does come from the data indicates the importance of maximising access to top draft picks. Its a no brainer.
  13. Thompson completely rolled the list in his early years. He has a string of first round picks that have come on brilliant and he has unbelievable father son picks Scarlett (multiple AAs), Ablett (elite star), Blake (ruck), N Ablett (premiership forward).
  14. Even you would be able to see that PA dogged it on the effort yesterday. We beat a soft and disinterested opposition.
  15. Sorry. HT. Williams is still in negotiations. PA should pull out of those discussions. Caro is right about the Club.
  16. Did I say Kane was no good? Re- read my post and think again.
  17. You're kidding?? Cornes was a great player 4 to 5 years ago but he now behaves as a trucculent senior player who needs to be pulled into line quickly. Has an atitude problem ever since he got overlooked for captaincy at PA. He is one of the reasons that Williams should go from PA Carr is a sniping hack who will be finished this year at PA. Both gave little yesterday and were amongst PA's worst. Probably the last players I would want at MFC.
  18. TJ was a talented simpleton who had none of the maturity, attitude and nous to back his highly rated talents. Scully was captain of Vic Metro and for the second year running AA U18. Trengove was captain of the SA team. Starting to see the difference? Recruiting assessments have changed markedly over the past 10 years. And I would hardly use TJ as an applicable example of the talent available particularly given the No 1 talent that has come through in the past 10 years and is running around the AFL having a significant impact today.
  19. A meaningless result in a lack lustre game against a marshmallow opposition.
  20. Its one step short of claiming with Casey's recent success, what great depth we have.
  21. Nothing has changed over the past two weeks of consequence. We are still shoort of top line talent. And the successful clubs of the past decade vindicate that. Even with Scully we are no certainty to challenge for a flag. But what I do know is that without him, its going to be tougher much tougher.
  22. Would you have said that two weeks ago? The results in the past fortnight should not clouded the fact that we need to ensure we have every access to the best talent in the land to really make that push happen. We need that PP.
  23. If we blow the PP we might not get the first pick until pick 5.
  24. If we get more than 4 wins this year then the Footy Dept should be sacked. They would be far from safe.
