  1. I dont think the MFC coaches did that today. But what can you do when the opposition's senior list squibs it?
  2. He was only one of the culprits. But he was as soft as butter. The level of disinterest amongst the senior core at Port was unbelievable. Caro's article holds some of the truth in the matters there
  3. About as meaningless as R22 in 2007. We do that and we have wasted the pain of 2008/2009.
  4. More than possible that was the case. Both oppositions were as soft as butter against MFC. Port rallied to their colours today. Perhaps missing a yellow stripe running down their backs.
  5. Port are financially straightened and its very dysfunctional at Port. They have resigned a coach who has lost the senior players and has only signed because of his designs to coach in Victoria with "Not intererested". They have a captain appointed under allegations that not all senior players supported the decision. There is alot of stuff bubbling away at Port. Alot of their players dogged it today with little or no defensive efforts. At times it was bleeding obvious. Of course they willingly flew the white flag. It was their choice.
  6. Absolutely agree. MFC need to manage its year end outcome. In consecutive weeks we have played two sides that have willingly flown the white flag. MFC needs to be careful.
  7. And Rhino, technically isn't it that we can't afford to have more than 4.125 wins - isn't it less than 16.5 points?
  8. Newton and PJ are contracted next year. Valenti cant get a game at MFC in a bog awful midfield. He is unlikely to be elevated and certainly wont be rookied. If Bail cant improve from where he is at next year then he will join Juice and PJ out the door at the end of 2010. Fringe players that cant press and hold their spot in a bottom ranked side are not worth keeping on your list.
  9. Scully is the likely No 1 pick. Only WCE and MFC are in the race for a 1st round PP. MFC just needs less than 4.5 wins and a lower end of season ladder position to WCE and Scully is ours. The only impact Freo can have is if they dont turn up to the MFC game like they did today. Freo can only get Scully f they finish last on the ladder and MFC and WCE have 4.5 wins or more.
  10. Hard to assess the form of Casey players over the past two weeks as they have played two underclassed and underskilled sides that are at risk of folding at years end. From watching the box today...Bartram was easily BOG in very poor conditions. Frankston gifted a number of goals through poor turnovers in the back 50. None of the big men had much impact due to the conditions. It was little man's game and after quarter time and especially 1/2 time, played in MFC's centre and forward section. Its no wonder that MFC listed forwards got 20 possessions. Miller and Newton showed that are comfortable VFL footballers. Watts was a class above most times he got the ball. As Bailey said when interviewed its good experience for him as an 18yo to play against men. Whelan started slowly but got better as the game went on. But he is just an effective VFL player now. Bails get a bit of the ball but his kicking is terrible. Valenti was hard in and under but did not get alot of the ball. But he is slowww and I think he will be cut at year end. The corkie did not help and he could miss matches. McKenzie was active without really hurting the opposition. In the end, the one sided scoreboard flattered a sub standard opposition.
  11. Agree with both of those. The best way to develop a winning culture is to develop a team that is good enough to win.
  12. I dont think so. Its line ball at best. White had good seasons in 2000,2002 and 2004 but by the end of 2005, White was finished as a No 1 ruckman at a time when he should have been hitting his prime. His 2007 and 2008 were terrible. Ottens came off a slow start and suffered a debilitating back injury early which stuffed him for a number of years. But since then and since his marvellous trade to Geelong by Wallet he has blossomed and has been No 1 ruckman in a top side. He should still be playing for a few more years whe White dropped off the perch yesrs before. The issue is that if we had White, then Ottens would not have got a good look in in the ruck and would have been superfluous. In hs early days, White could ruck solo for 4 quarters. You cant go past Cameron Bruce as pick 64 in the 1999 draft and last years B&F winner. Can you? TJ was recruited as No 1 pick in the days when character, attitude and personality were not really considered. He was considered a talented but very simple individual who was never push in the junior competitions.
  13. That is spooky. Given we took White from Freo I dont think we would have taken Ottens. I think both of them have been underperformers at various stages of their careers. At least Ottens matured and developed into a capable footballer. I agree we with your 2002 assessment of TJ. We should have taken Simon Black who went at pick 31. B)
  14. Hall had time to consider his action and he made his choice despite the legacy and the implications. It was a sad action that cant be mitigated by the elbow incident. Hell, stacks of footballers cop high hits and dont react in that fashion. Even Hall and the Swans know its an indefensible and stupid action.
  15. That would be two diabolical outcomes and the Footy Dept should be seriously reconsidering their careers.
  16. Not the distribution or non distribution of MFC clothing in blue collar stores.
  17. It better than being the perennial victim of it. B)
  18. They were being pumped when he was in. There are bigger issues at stake with the Hawks.
  19. Its called demand and supply. There is little demand and this little supply. There is little demand particularly in the blue collar retail store. Buy it directly from the MFC Megastore. All profits to the Club.
  20. Clearly YM does not but he has a majority stake in it. He was a talented forward and has been a premiership captain, leading goalkicker and genuine physical threat on the field. You getting carried away with the tough man bull---- . Agree with all of that. Would they have room in the salary cap? What? Worse than sub prime mortgages! Seriously, its a valid concern. His last act on Rutten was unprovoked, off the play, no pressure and clear decision to hit someone. He decided to cross the line. Bulldogs may gamble but he is the ultimate caveat emptor.
  21. Oh dear. He was embarrassingly deplorable in 2008 and was dropped. He was finished in 2007. And you dont see it? Have you started smoking something stronger? Great idea to pay out contracts earlier. Puts you offside with player/managers and will surely please the AFL who are dipping into emergency funds to keep us going.... and for what to keep a performing clown on the ground. Good work
  22. I doubt it. The AFL would be ambivalent on this so long as the player represents the right values etc. Grimes and Rich do that very well. Thanks for the melodrama anyway.
  23. "But cigarettes help me relax so how can that be bad for me?"
