  1. He must have appreciated the knowledgable and insightful point of view but was too shy to show it.
  2. I'm sympathetic to your cause TD re Victorians. I think the alleged bias to NSWmen preceded Hilditch but over that time generally the selections have served Australia well. I am hoping Smith usurps North. White was overlooked because he did little on the last Indian Tour. He is best suited to ODI and 20/20. His bowling just wont carry him in Test cricket. Hazelwood is a definite prospect. George a little less so. However doesn't there selection give rise to the thought the selectors are seeking to build and broaden the stock of fast bolwers they can draw on given the toll on the quicks last season.
  3. Its called the bleedin obvious. And I think the respondents have correctly identified the ridiculous. The issue isnt that no person is untouchable but that you would comtemplate trading a key member of the side (3rd in the B&F) and an asset in an area where the team list is profoundly weak. Its not rocket science to work why its not a great idea. Sorry Robinson Crusoe, I am right and as other posters pointed out why the McLean is not the same situation as Jamar. FWIW, I and a few other posters had been critical of Brock last year, questioned his value to the side and pondered his future. Sure it challenged a few nellies.... but there hiding now. B) But I always thought we had McLean more than covered. This has been borne out this year. If you did post early on McLean...well done. Clearly you would have done a bit more thinking of the ramifications with trading McLean than the Op did with Jamar.
  4. Just media speculation. Nothing new here. Its the same rule a F/S prospect either chooses the F/S option or goes into the draft (eg Marc Murphy). In this case its GWS. There is no certainty they would trade to Adelaide.
  5. Congratulations Brad Green. And great efforts by Chip and Russian. From the photos, Spencer should be retained and elevated to the main list. B)
  6. Exactly my point HT. B) He played his worst game for the season in that game. Otherwise he has been a revelation down back for the Tigers. He is in the mix for the small defender role.
  7. I am glad these other posters had the good sense to realise the consequence of having Jamar off the list at this point in time. Its ridiculous. Its obviously does not make sense for the very reasons you muddled around to. I dont know why you feel you are on a higher plain. You werent the only one considering that option at the time. There were a number of posters that raised it. And the option had some merit despite the McLean fans being up in arms. McLean was a struggling MOR midfielder who attributes were not going to be critical to MFC going forward. Jamar is a completely different situation indeed.
  8. Agree. I think its a case of the red and blue googles blurring the perspective.
  9. I understand your sentiments and feel the same way. But I think we need to work through the existing system.
  10. Hell he kicks over 50 goals in the season and features in so many goal assists. He is the trump card in the forward line of an top class team. Far from reputation getting him there, may be its a case of SJ being consistently outstanding over long period of time. Defintite claims to AA as much as Green has.
  11. There is a reason why it wont happen. India controls at least 70% of the revenues derived form the game. It is the elephant in the room of world cricket. Australia and England are minnow. IPL should clearly demonstrate who calls the shots in the game. And you can forget Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket as their cricket councils are effectively financed by Indian cricket and its commercial arrangements. Your proposal would send the game further backwards at a greater pace than what is happening now. At this time, cricket needs unity of action not the disintegration bred from discontent.
  12. Agree with most of that. Also it would be good if he had a full pre season and no injuries during the year. His natural ability and skills are definitely there. Would love to see him turn it on in September.
  13. Good point. Barring injury, I think Swallow junior will be something special.
  14. There is no doubt fraud at the high levels of cricket administration in the sub continent. Many of the senior appointments have had chronic conflicts of interest where the interest of cricket are aligned to their own commercial interests. At the country level, Africa and the sub continent are filled with Government lackeys, opportunities and in a couple of cases, crooks. The ICC member reaction to Australia's appointment to the ICC Chair was systematic of where the problems are. i suggest Malcolm Speed knows alot more than he is telling...for good reason.
  15. Both Grimes injuries are unrelated. He is over the back injury. And the most recent injury was a contact injury. He has done more on the field and off the field than TJ has down at Brisbane. How could it have been a fail if the option was holding onto a lazy declining footballer?? The TJ/ Grimes scenario is already a win. With McLean we have offloaded a slow one paced midfielder with only reasonable skills by hand or foot. And McLean is young. But isnt he injury prone??? You have seven year track record to go on. How many games has he missed and how many did he play that so many people were sure he was carrying an injury? But he is young. So is Grimes??? It is early for Gysberts but given his first couple of games his performance in his RS game was better than any game we got from Brock over the previous 3 years. McLean was not part of the bigger picture at MFC. I could not see how we could play Beamer, Jones and McLean without having Usain Bolt to offset the lack of leg speed. He was surplus to our requirements. He might be a good pick up for Carlton. But he wont be running around the Northern Bullants. Ask any Carlton supporter how they feel about it? The point is you need to consider what you gave up for the draft pick and why and what you do with it.
  16. As another poster said its simplistic. None of the above players were a swap. There are two parts here: 1. The decision to trade a player 2. What we do with the pick In each case when we traded MFC did the right thing given the circumstances at hanrd whether it be getting value for a contracted player at the time or trade an OOC player. In regard to the trade and draft scenarios you put forward: Woewodin for Bell - Good trade but bad pick Scott Thompson Moloney - Unavoidable trade, fair pick Jolly for Dunn - Unavoidable trade, pick to still to prove itself Johnston for Jack Grimes - Overdue trade on a declining player, Great pick. Already a win. McLean for Gysberts - Outstanding Trade, Very good pick so far
  17. Didn't have to be tested at all to bring the game into disrepute. Different rule than the drug code particularly for players who try to smart the system like Cousins.
  18. Its all about the culture of taking money to create outcomes. Whether it is one ball or one match it demeans your country, your opponent the spectators and all involved with cricket. Its a malignant cancer that has been knowingly allowed to flourish by the PCB and the ICC. The offending players should be punished. But the problem extends higher up. In total, the last six Pakistan captains have either been caught red handed or have heavy and reasonable suspicion of being on the take. The PCB is rotten from the top down. And its the same clowns in the ICC that railroaded Australia's appointment to the ICC Chair that have overseen this disaster.
  19. Now if you really thought about it sensibly you wouldn't...
  20. Great suggestion by the OP. Lets package him up with Green and Frawley. I mean they are all AA. FMD. There are some crud threads at this time of year. It will take some beating.
  21. Both are very good selections. Deledio is a good chance to get the small defenders role. Mumford has been outstanding as the first ruck in a side that came fifth. No insult to Jamar but he some worthy competition. Its great to see Green, Frawley and Jamar in consideration. In reality we will struggle to get one in the AA side. But good luck to the boys.
  22. Given we have had a lack of success for nigh on 50 years I would have thought we should be judicious in stacking the shelves with past players wanting a gig unless they are the best candidate for the job. I dont think the love of a club and passion are sole domain of just ex players. FWIW, I think Matthews did a fabulous job at Brisbane, Clarkson at Hawthorn and Thompson at Geelong. Even the Reverend at MFC put in devoted service under difficult circumstances. And your statement about Stynes is simply incorrect. Few doubted Stynes but he had taken on a drastic challenge at MFC. He has done wonderfully. Its a job for the rare type. Assistant coaches are not so rare and there is a wider market. And I am not so sure Woey's skills are rare but a pre requisite in a capable assistant coach. I trust as a coach that he is a little more worldly than when he was a player. While his determination to get the most out of himself was admirable. His inability at two clubs to realise the writing was on the wall was interesting.
  23. Why is McNamara so coveted by posters? From what I have seen at Casey he has been OK without setting the world on fire. What role does he have in our side going forward and at who's expense?
