  1. The days of allowing players the luxury of developing for 4 years in the ressies are gone. Lists are smaller and players are expected to move through to challenge in AFL, expecially players of Strauss's type. Green kicked 4 goals in a QF in his first year under pressure. He was class in his first year and is a good grade or so above Strauss.
  2. He has been in the spotlight for the last 4 years. This is nothing different. He has battled with his addiction for years now. Given his situation, everyhing is a risk for him. This should have been one of the milder risks given how he has behaved. I dont think Benny's past will ever escape given he has lived so much of it in the media. His name cant be mentioned without the murmur of "drugs". He's a media commodity now and he's cashing in. This matter has been in planning for at least 3 years. Good luck to him. He has a lot of financial gain and public sympathy to chase. There is alot of self interest in it for him.
  3. No you take the best available player/talent and dont limit yourself by type. If he is a KPF then fine. But dont compromise going for quality.
  4. Agree but its still the same assessment.
  5. I think we should always recruit the best talent available to us with our early drsft picks. If that a KP tall then fine. Otherwise we may sight a low pick or a trade. PJ may will be cut. Its hard to tell. I think could elevate both Spencer and give PJ one more year on base dollars. Then there is Newton....
  6. Yup. Sort of. No worries. Ben has a habit of hanging around the wrong people. I remember him saying years ago that Chris Mainwaring was a mentor to him. I thought ...oh dear.
  7. Anyone you would knock back this year? Where is the space on the list? Who comes off to bring him on?
  8. Like Sheedy?? It will be 30 years of coaching by ex Richmond players. The last favourite son was Barry Davis. Disaster. ND would be walking around feeling a knife never too far from his back. I think the Micky/ Bucks situation is different. Anyway Hird counted himself out of the race on Fox earlier this week and was grilled about his intentions. I dont think so. I doubt there will be a better resourced club than WCE. Any chance he missed the job at Essendon because there was a feeling from the observations of his time at MFC that he had missed the boat on where footy was heading? I think he has a use by date like a number of coaches get. And its been and gone.
  9. Ask the Morans (that are left) and Chaouks about the cost. There is little honour amongst thieves. I thought there was little revealing about Cousins last night that had not been strongly rumoured for years. He was not the only one involved. I guess the cokeumentary satisfies the viewing public fascination with blokes that go off the rails. Three years ago he was the centre of a circus. Now he is cashing in on it for his retirement. I wonder if there will be a book and sound track.
  10. At the price of whom on our list? The Footy dept will have to ask the question in consideration of our list, is he going to be better than the calibre of players we have in the midfield? He is no standout and given we will have possibly four spaces on our list (with one more delisting) and that Spencer and McKenzie are to be elevated then the Footy Department must ask itself is the player worth the 2nd round pick that we would forgo to get him? I am not sure we will be necessarily adding to our list this year through trades unless its a worthy big forward where we have a gap.
  11. 10 years of football from that lot is good. 2003 year was a dud.
  12. Jordan McMahon will be a testimony to how Wallace got it so wrong in list management. Recruited by the Doggies with pick 10 in 2000, Wallace's Tigers swooped on Jordie when he could not get a game with the Dogs in 2007 offering pick 19. A crazy deal at the time and proven more so over the course of the journey.
  13. From the reports Cheney destroyed Thorp. I wonder what has happened to all the posters who were saying we should have got Thorp?
  14. No. Neale's time has been and gone. Terry is a no. And so are the others.
  15. And I take it that Green doesn't bleed for the Club.
  16. SEN has stated that he does not want to leave Melbourne (the city) given other aspects of his life. And I reckon we are still a very young side that will always need guidance to train properly. And we are 18 months off being a "feared" side.
  17. Thats the information I have is that he is happy in Melbourne and given Pia's career he wont be going to GC. I understand he is realitic about his chances re AFL football and will probably seek a role in the VFL.
  18. That may not necessarily be the case. Based on form, I would. He has been solid VFL nothing more.
  19. Smart. Dont play the Captain Real Smart.
  20. No problem. My other comments was an aside. The issue is that if the MFC season finishes and the player continues to play in the finals for Casey and gets injured while playing, MFC are a prima facie liable to cover that players medical expenses for the next 12 months. My explanation might have to be tightened by those closer to the issue but its been something that has been implemented before with the alliances at Casey and Sandy.
  21. And wouldnt you think Miller embodies your equation for winning culture above. Got the most out of his skill and ability through application and determination while providing leadership (and experience) to a young side. Its clear the players think so given he is still voted by them to be in the leadership group notwithstanding that this year he only had only a one year contract. The Club needs to ensure players like Miller are exited from the Club respectfully and positively. Gotch's comments did not fulfill that. Any chance Gotch had been told that with MFC's season finish this Sunday that no MFC player who is not going to be on the list next year will be allowed to play for Casey in the finals? Counts out Miller and Bell for starters..
  22. I dont agree. Giving him a farewell game does send a strong message to younger players that players who may not be the most gifted but by the actions and deeds have given great service and ledership. How do you bulid a "winning culture" when you dont respect players who over a considerable period of time have a set a high example in many of the attitudes and efforts to be a great player as part of a great club?
  23. I understand when he was the last player signed up last year on the list on a one year contract he was quite realistic where he stood. I am not sure he is keen to leave Victoria though. So all the calls about GC have as much weight as Petterd's move home.
  24. I thought it was a strange and unusual comment for a MFC Assistant/ VFL Coach to make. Not the best aveneue of disclosure unless of course Miller has been advised and the player already know.
