The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Red and Blue realist replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
He'll be biding his time waiting for Ryder to be traded and Westhoff to retire, plus Port showed incredible support when his parents died, so I doubt he'd be actively wanting out. He also is very inconsistent, much like Weid really. -
We have the following who are under 24 - Trac, Brayshaw, Lever, Harmes, ANB, Lockhart, JSmith, Hore, OMac and KK, plus Salem and Hunt have only just turned 25. So we have a pretty strong core who have all played under 100 games. At some point you need to put experience around a young core, which is what we've done after going heavy in the draft for year (up until 2016 anyway. None of those guys listed above have played over 100 games yet, but a lot are in the 70s or 80s. Clearly they've loaded up trying to win, and got us to a prelim with that strategy last year (that seems to be completely forgotten around here). While this year had been bad, getting younger players in isn't going to fix that or complement what we've had.

Keith was originally part of the Suns first intake as a key marking forward, but then went off to play cricket, then when he came back to the game he was tried first forward then settled much better down back. Unless the club thinks he could go back to a forward role (similar to TMac and Petty) then I see no reason at all for him.
-
He'd still be playing off the half back flank, hopefully delivering it to AVB, Hannan and Melksham, in fact if we had those 3 up and firing it would probably make Jones' job a while lot easier. He shouldn't be automatic best 22 next year, but there's certainly a place on our list for him. If he left then it should be the AFL getting him to the Gold Coast as he's the type of leader they need. However it would be cruel to suffer the career he's had with us then be shipped off there.

There was another article about 2 days ago that listed the dogs, Saints and Hawks as interested and said that Melbourne had no interest at all. There's a whole heap of guess work and made up BS from jurnos at the moment

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Red and Blue realist replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
He signed up recently I think, I think we really need a quicker tall, tmac has a great tank and weid creates a great contest but neither are super quick off the mark, even a mid size super quick player. Not sure who though -
The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread

Have heard that, but still worth asking the question, there's not much else out there. Callum Moore from the tigers is stuck in the reserves but is more a 2nd/3rd tall, but might be ok -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Red and Blue realist replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
He'll need to prove he can play again before anyone gives him a shot, he's played nearly no footy for 4 years, or managed a game or 2 then breaks down. He was a super talent, but is he anymore? He's more likely to be a mid season pick next year rather than be taken in the normal draft -

Patton from GWS, I know the Hawks have been mentioned but if he's knees ok then he's worth a look -
The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Red and Blue realist replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
I disagree on both fronts, objectively people don't think of trades as to how the players are playing right at this very minute, they take into consideration their past and how likely they are to produce that again. Given their ages etc. Langdon is playing the best he ever has while Brayshaw is down, but clearly has more talent so gets a much higher return. I don't want Gus traded either but if he requested to go then I'd be asking for someone like Cerra, plus more, so that's where we might Langdon came in as well. Again I think we'll keep Brayshaw for the longer term and end up paying a second rounder for Langdon. -
That was just horrible all round, it looked like Jones called for the handball then ran off in a different direction, while Frost stood there with his hands in the air while his man ran past unopposed into an open goal.

Jordan Lewis To Retire this Year
Red and Blue realist replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could be right about that, if Buddy is a chance to play again this season, I reckon the swans will put a line through him shortly. -
The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread

Think this is about right, especially if they give GC a top end priority. I'd say we might even try and turn that second round pick into our 2020 2nd pick instead. I think that Hill could end up at Geelong as part of the Kelly trade though. No they wouldn't, Gus finished 3rd in the Brownlow last year and has proven class, just because he's had a down year doesn't mean he's value has dropped that much. He'd still warrant a first rounder on it's own, pick 10-15 or so. Hypothetically if he did want to go west with his brothers then I'd be asking for Cerra and Langdon with no picks exchanged, unless we were going for Hill as well. -
Jordan Lewis To Retire this Year
Red and Blue realist replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
After the last couple of weeks I reckon he'll go to Grimes, he's been good at keeping McGovern and Carlise accountable and stopping them from getting too many intercept opportunities. Quiet remarkable that he's being doing these sort of roles at this point in his career. I also get the feeling it might be his last game Saturday night, one last dance under the bright lights at the G then settles into a coaching role. -
Spot on, I think with Lewis and Cross in the past we've shown we're prepared to have that conversation plus both of those spent time in the reserves, so we back it up too. I still think we should give Jones another year at a low base, but at the same rate it'll be his last.

Pick 2 for HIll would be a massive stretch, maybe pick 2 and our 3rd for Hill, Langdon and their first (pick 7)? Was that how it was put?
-
He's still getting a game each week, and hasn't been our worst. We don't want another JMac decision by pushing out someone who will, like Lewis, be told he might not be in the seniors each week. Clearly if Morris is right and we've only offer $260k, which would be less than half of what he's on now, then it will be based on him not being automatic best 22.

Agree completely, plus when we have good forwards who can lock the ball in longer it'll give the mids a bit of a rest so they might be able to do the 2 way running longer, and for the backs to be better set up against quick balls coming in. Fitness is the key to any game plan, but our game plan in particular. Garlett hasn't been great for over 2 years now, but we need someone in his mold, a real livewire in the forward 50 that demands attention even on poor days or who can turn a half chance into a goal. We don't have anyone else on the list like that, Hannan maybe but he's looked well short of anything this year.

2019 Contracts and List Details
Red and Blue realist replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jones just re-signed for 1 more year, plus confirmation that Lewis won't go on - https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/afl-daily-rolling-footy-news-from-across-australia-for-monday-july-29-2019/live-coverage/6090ea8f90cda33abbc409c5399c9c23 (behind paywall) -
We've been missing TMac, Weid, Melksham, AVB and Garlett for these reasons. Plus at the start of the season TMac was clearly not fit. Our best games last year were when we locked the ball relentlessly in our forward 50, the pressure of Trac, ANB (who's been out of form/injured this year), AVB, Hannan etc. gave us the best opportunities to score. Unfortunately this year as soon as we got the backline semi healthy the forward line got destroyed.
-
Trac with a sore back might not get a crack at the Tiges. If there's even the slightest sense it could flair up then they should pull him for the season, backs can play up for a long time unless there's absolutely no issue then he should be rested. I'd love to see Hore and May come in so we get to see how May, Lever, Jetta, Hibberd, Hore and Frost play together. It will release Salem as well, Jones and he can be the 6th/mid option down there. Jetta has been ordinary but I'd keep him purely just to get used to playing with the others. Hibberd might again tag Martin, so can go back when he goes forward. The wagners both committed horrible turnovers (as a lot did), but they offered nothing else, sand we know enough about them now. Baker was also poor but should be given more time to find his feet at the top level. My in: May, Hore, Melksham and Lockhart Outs: Wagners x2; Trac and OMac. Not convinced with Preuss coming in for TSmith (even though smith was ordinary), I'd love to see Preuss play at least 50% at Casey forward to work on what he needs to do there, just a pity Weid got concussed because he should have come back in.

We must play Frost on a wing & Fritsch forward.
Red and Blue realist replied to samcantstandya's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wish it was an exaggeration, however he directly handballed the ball to a St Kilda player, he also let his man run from besides him into an open goal, he didn't put a body on his man who was free to jump at the ball when it landed short, he tapped the ball when on the ground away from himself into a crowd of saints players, add to this the goals his man got from leads/lose checking. Seriously, he did some nice things early in the game with intercept marks and pressure, but he make some very very ordinary errors, and does so multiple times a game. He's a fair better player when he has May next to him telling him what to do. He's got great speed and strength which has come out this year, but opposition teams also target him becasue he would have close to the lowest footy IQ in the whole comp. That's why I think he'll be a good player in a strong defense but could never be allowed to roam the wing where he has to make decisions on his own. -

He's had some ordinary games up forward, so the move back might have helped his long term future while also plugging gaps while we were short.
