2024 Trade Week Report Cards
For anyone wanting to give this some credibility and be disappointed last year they rated Collingwood giving up their first for Schultz and Ginnivan for next to nothing as a B. These periods are best judged in 1-2 years time. Looking at who went where and what our intent was mature low cost ruck, replace some run, add elite draftees it’s hard to argue we didnt meet expectations. I could see Sharp being the bargain buy of this years trade like Massimo last year.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 9
I think pick 9 will debut before pick 5.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 9
Hopefully one of Smith/O’Sullivan/Lalor get through to 5 and we sneak one of Tauru or Travaglia in at 9.

Welcome to Demonland: Harry Sharp
This to me is a smart potential trade. On the cusp of their best 22 but held out through their depth of midfield. Vic boy. Strong runner. Wont cost the earth and at 21 potential upside in development and potentially fills holes in list left by ANB and Hunter.

It's not our struggle? He wants to come to us but he's in contract with a club who is losing 4-5 put of contract,, who rate him and have a history of holding players to deals. Unless you want us to trade with exhorbitant overs to wrench him out unsure what more we do unless/until they change position. Also plenty of deals currently with preferred clubs poles apart at the minute. Typical trade period half way through.

Which of the above deals I mentioned would you do? Remind me your thoughts on Fullerton and Billing’s deals where you could argue we just did something?

We rightfully had a crack at Peatling and missed. Perryman is going to be paid $900k at the Pies. Cummings a 6 year deal at the Crows. Battle enough contract to trigger the highest draft compensation. Houston if we were still in it would be costing us pick 5 Baker and Bolton we are in the wrong state to entice. Noble and Rioli first round picks. Haynes, Darling, Parker passed well passed their best and would require good $$ multi year retirement deals. Some times the best list management is the one that does little.

Trade Targets
My understanding is the only way we messed this up is our first pick driftedmuch higher in the back end of the year than when we were willing to part with it for the proposed deal. Then both parties cooled for differing reasons.

They have form of keeping players in contract who want to leave for personal circumstance. Bobby Hill a good example.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I had not watched any highlights of Kako until The Age rumoured our potential interest. The highlights show very good traits, super clean handling in tight, good burst acceleration, does not go to ground, simple compact kicking style.

James Peatling
Peatling, Cumming and Nibbler. they must be doing something right in their pitches.

Welcome to Demonland: Tom Campbell
Arguably the best performed VFL ruck in 2024 aside from Ned Moyle and Nick Bryan who are both young and in contract and would not come to sit behind Gawn as a plan B option let alone the cost to acquire them. Make sense to me as a no/low cost 2025 solution.

Neil Erasmus
It would be a consideration if out of contract but under contract would cost overs and I am not convinced he brings the connection and execution we need to layer outside of first possession. You would think with Fyfe and OMeara aging he/they would expect him to break in with another preseason.

VFL Recruiting options 2024
What a game the VFL GF was. Would have no issue with Bice with a later pick and I think Heron has the skills and speed for another shot at it. Brew great inside stoppage but cant see how it would translate at next level.

Trade Targets
Why if he comes cheap? Who are our round 1 small forwards. Koz ?(suspended). Nibbler ?(gone). Spargo ? (has not played for a year)? So Chandler and possibly Kolt or Kynan or …… A good quality opportunist small forward (6 games of 3 goals and 33 in total for 2024) who is very team oriented who would come at low cost. I can see the potential appeal.

Trade Targets
Carlton are obviously wanting to clear the decks for a run at Houston. Kennedy wont be on big money but is in contract. He fills our need and style and provides another mature inside bull whilst we see where Clarry and Trac are at. Has also shown quality pinch hitting forward so could play alternate to Trac (or the role subject to how long his return). If they want him out the key is getting him to request us and then we should get him for cheap (pick 45 or 50 could get it done).

Farewell Adam Tomlinson
Adams is a young 20 with good speed who needs another preseason or two to build strength, repeat endurance and with that confidence to position himself for a game. The only young keys from that draft playing any reasonably consistent level of AFL games to this point are Cadman and Weddle (who is more a utility than a key). I suggest the club have quiet confidence in him being they extended his contract to end of 2026 before the recent season commenced.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
His output and highlights are quality. He is the type of player that could end up a JT special. Good size, speed and skills and whilst he played general back I can see how he could translate into elite midfield attributes. JT certainly does not generally follow the same order as most.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Agree watch him closely as it get toward November and he hears club rumours but JT has a habit of not picking to the norm.
-
2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Worth remembering Cal Twomey's Sept 2023 phantom form guide had Windsor at pick 14 and his prior two versions not even in the top 20 prospects. In JT we trust....

The Josh Smillie Thread
I would say not quick (but wouldn't say slow). The one thing I did really like is the weighting of his kicks (something we lack). In saying that Jagga, Draper, Langford, Lalor preferred by me )and possibly Reid).
