PICKS # 26 & 31 (formerly # 23 & 28)
Have I looked at different highlights footage on Turner or is this based on seeing him live and in full? The package on the draft machine shows him have 9 kicks, all effective with three of them goals on the run? Aside from this some good clearing handballs to connect and some serious dash? What am I missing?

Phantom Drafts - 2018
Based on watching nothing more than highlights and what I think is realistic based on our selections my preferred 4 picks would be OHalloran, Bytel, one of Turner/McKenzie and Bedford. Assuming no long term back concerns our list and development support allows us to give Bytel the time to get himself right and risk a boom or bust pick. My view is Walsh aside his video highlights show the next best rounded midfield attributes.

Phantom Drafts - 2018
Completely agree the two day draft really helps us pause and rethink all possibilities with 23 and 28. Even more so gives me confidence that whoever Taylor chooses will be the right picks.

Buckenara's top 30 in order in the Herald Sun has Valente at 23 and Bytel at 28. Granted it does not take into account club need, academy or F/S concessions but has Williams (10), O'Halloran (22), Duursma (13) gone before 23 but the rest you mention still on the board at that point. Based on this being the order interested in which combo you take at the two picks. https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/gary-buckenara-names-his-top-30-draft-prospects-ahead-of-what-has-been-labelled-the-next-super-draft/news-story/3e632480d76f92ab844973d18586c028

My assumptive best 22 is as follows Back: Jetta: May: Hibberd HB: Salem: O-Mac: Lever Cen: Kola: Oliver: Harmes HF: Trac: Weid: ANB For: Spargo: T-Mac: Melk Ruck: Gawn: Brayshaw: Viney I/C: Lewis: AVB: Jones: Fritsch: This leave us with: key back depth both proven in Frost and emerging in Petty and Keilty. small to mid backs in Hunt , Smith and Wagner with potential to swing around Lewis, Fritsch or Kolo as required. Key forward leaves us a bit light with T.Smith but the flexibility to play the extra ruck or a smaller one tall forward line with Trac or Melksham as the second. I suspect there is a chance that J Smith also is trialled forward. A back up ruck position better than last year. Strong Small forward cover in Garlett and Hannan, Midfield depth we really only have Stretch , JKH and the untried Maynard and Baker but we have plenty of flex in our half backs and forwards to play midfield minutes and suspect we will draft more in this space. Our depth knowing we have 8ish spots to fill allows us to swing wide for best available talent from a mid to long view without trying to fix for the short term.

Phantom Drafts - 2018
Based on highlights package there are those that statements say have pace and then there is Fraser Turner whose footage actually shows some serious toe.

Daniel Menzel
What is this potential upside that Menzel has? He was on a one year contract this year with Geelong and still didn't learn that defensive pressure is a non negotiable. You either accept what he brings (goal nouse no tackles) or you let him through to the keeper.

2019 Leadership Group
Not being in the leadership group doesnt mean you are not a leader around the club it just removes the formalities and the official functions and effort it takes. Neither Lewis of Jones should be in it as their number 1 priority for the team should be to focus on their individual performance. May needs to earn his leadership stripes with his new new peers. Jetta I feel is a natural leader but the tag is not important and I would prefer him to work in the background as well as continue all the marvellous work he does outside of the club. Viney captain, supported by Gawn, Lever, T-Mac is enough from an official capacity for mine.

Don't disagree there is a chance he will play up front but at 187cm can you be called a small forward?

Bailey Williams
Lukosios and King twins aside the quality of mids and flankers in this draft and the want for many clubs to accelerate their ladder position may mean he falls to us. If we rate him we have the list profile to allow him the time to develop at Casey. We can also afford to be more speculative due to the younger and more balanced profile of our list. It wont kill us if we miss with a mid 20s pick when we have so many good young players. Teams are less looking or needing the superstar forward at any cost and I would suggest unless you have multiple picks early are looking for the lowest risk A grader which is rarely the tall. For every Kennedy, Franklin, Lynch, Hogan there is the increasing cases of Schache, McCartin, Boyd. Add in the impact seen by Jenkins, Brown, T-Mac and others taken late who do the job well and it is not seen as necessary as maybe 5-10 years ago. This could run to our advantage this year.

Pretty good. He took 14 marks which gives him plenty of chance for a few sloppy turnovers I guess.

I suggest 38 and more rookies is the way we will go. With the serious depth on our list we can take players at 23 and 28 who are high talent that we accept can put significant development time in over their first contract with no pressure to do anything but develop at Casey.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I wish him all the best and I will not knock those that are disappointed but I want team players who want to bleed for the jumper and their brothers in it. It never felt like that was the case with him. My view is we will be a better functioning team as we showed without him later in the year and I would not be surprised if his best football has already been witnessed due to physical and mental toll. .

Tie the Suns pick 19 or 24 to that it’s basically the same outcome with Hogan at the Suns instead of Dockers. Hogan must really like the beach and warmer climates or losing or both to agree.

People are missing the point. Ignore the final offer bit. They are now making an offer. Plenty of time for more "final offers" between now and Wednesday.- Farewell Dom Tyson
Teams play maximum two rucks with most playing one. Teams play how many midfielders and even more so how many inside midfielders? If we lose one inside mid in 2019 how much will you panic? If Gawn went down next year how much will you panic? Preuss is worth as much as Tyson. You could potentially argue more.- Farewell Dom Tyson
When Viney was injured we still didn't play Tyson inside.- Jayden Hunt
The only thing that Hunt and Gaff have in common is they play in the AFL.- Farewell Dom Tyson
Which Vic teams have been light on contested ball winners this year? Essendon and Carlton are the only ones I can think of. Maybe the Saints. I cant see him leaving the state and he is handy quality depth for us but not best 22.- Andrew Gaff
Frost?- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
The smarter way to look at this is look at who was available at that pick and taken later but around the same spot. Here is a list of 2011-2015 drafted players taken pick 11-15. Toby Greene, Sam Docherty, Taylor Adams, Devon Smith, Dom Sheed, Patrick Cripps, Zac Jones, Liam Duggan, Jake Lever, Wayne MIlera, Ed Curnow, Eric Hipwood, Daniel Rioli. It would look even better if I went out to 25 to allow for a full round of picks but I think you'll get the idea. The 2012 draft was a bust but that's more than a handy list. With Jason Taylor's proven record I would back him to pick well.- Farewell Jesse Hogan
Hogan is a very good player however he has not lived up my original expectations and I am confident he never will at MFC and confident he likely wont at another club. His numbers speak volumes both in possession and work rate which is why he is spoken of so highly but they don't mean much for mine once you scratch the surface. I recall salivating at him rag dolling Rance early in his career, launching at the ball and splitting the packs with contested grabs and commanding the front spot so he could protect it drop as he read it faster than all. Whether it is his back problems, his numerous life challenges he has faced, his personality or our game style he has not looked like being that player for 2-3 years. The facts as shown before is he has consistently had a limited impact against the better sides and has big possession and goal games against the lower sides. He struggles to kick 50 but doesn't like playing deep and when he plays high he gets the ball but holds it up too long. He is a good field kick but a set shot in a pressure game from 35-40 in front I would not have him in the first 5 players I would want to take the shot. Whilst I think he has improved his demeanour if we don't play his way or he can't get his way it is pretty obvious when you have him beat. How often have you seen him have a quiet first quarter or half and fight his way back into a game? Whilst I think he has given his all as an individual I have never thought he has been fully connected with the team both in performance and brotherhood the way most others appear these days. The facts are also that when not there we have played a higher scoring, higher pressure brand of footy. This is particularly shown against the better sides in our run home this year. If this was last year the sky would be falling but we have now seen that T-Mac is not a one hit wonder forward and we have seen the emergence of Weideman as not only a capable player now but a potential star if he matures on the natural path that forwards do. I suggest he has raised going or not committing to us post 2019 but I wouldn't be surprised if we brought this to a head and I don't think this is a one way conversation. I think we have seen the opportunity to maximise this situation to try to solve our broader deficiencies and make us a stronger team. 2 first round picks with use of one for May and KK and holding one inside 10 for the best available kid in the super draft or on trade for something bigger that brings us more speed and carry makes sense. I would back our list management and recruiting to get it right once again.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
2nd in the 2015 B&F and twice in the 22 best under 22 in his formative years after being a highly rated junior. Hard to say he did not excel early on its more about whether he can return to that and more. HIs career stalled once concussion hit and being it is well touted how poor their culture player management and development has been seems like a player who could significantly improve into the player he looked like he would become with a hit of the reset button at another club. - Farewell Jesse Hogan
