Frawley relishing opportunities

Frawley is extremely quick, has lots of physical development left in his body, knows when to run off his man and has started hitting targets at a good rate. Could be a very good player for us and I like that Bailey isnt afraid to give him big jobs. The kid can handle it.

Has to play the rest of the year.

I think he will be alright, if we do the right thing by him and give him a clear run at a position.

ive said this for a long time, but i think frawley will be a gem.

people must be patient with budding key defenders. noone should expect a key defender to be able to consistently beat their player in their first afl season.

what i look for in frawley is his attributes.

He is bloody quick, effective kicking and handballing skills, strong over head, a good spoiler...but most importantly he is 193cm with a frame where he could stack on the kilos after a few preseasons.

some of his spoils this weekend made me happy. some of his driving runs the week before were good. it wont be too long before he puts it all together. we must keep playing him

Agree with what most of whats been said previously in this thread.

The early signs are excellent. Lots of pace, tenacity. With just a touch of polish.

The signs are positive but there will be times where we need to be patient with James.

Think back, if you can, to a time when you were paying in a side, in just about ANY team sport, and you'll realise you learnt the most, in the shortest amount of time when you were easybeats.

The one fantastic factor bout this year is that Frawley couldn't ask for a better learning experience than the one he's having. He's in his second year, and due to our problems, has to stand toe-to-toe with the best or second-best forwards in the game.

Our FF, CHF, and pockets may not be getting fast-tracked the way we'd like, but our most dire need has for a long time been a KP defender, and it's here we're getting the most improvement in the shortest time...

As far as defensive leaders go, you can see him in the leadership group in a few years, and staying there... not the face of the club, and not dominating necessarily, but being our solid tall player in the side.

Go Chip...

And we're going to have to have some patience because the way our midfield and forwards let in the inside 50s, Frawley is going to look like he's drowning at stages this season.

Just one quick thing - I thought it was great when Frawley had a go at his fellow Demons when Bradshaw marked over him after a boundary throw in and no-one came to help him out. Not great that no-one helped but great that a 19 yr old wouldn't shrink to his peers and let them know when they were shirking their duties. A welcome juxtaposition to Al Nicholson, who was better than some give credit for, but who just seemed to mope when things weren't travelling well.

Gun.

I called it the day he was drafted.

Can shut his man down, and is also attacking.

The next Scarlett.

I tend to disagree. Football wise I learned the most in my bottom age of under 18s (basically cos I was conceding so much size to everyone else) and we only lost 4 games to the year (all to the same team)

I concur.

If you bump into Chip, have a look at his frame. He will hold his ground to any forward in a few years time.

As someone has already said, the good thing about Frawley is he has the attributes. I think his kicking is nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be. I like him with the ball in his hands. Has some dash and backs himself. He is seriously fast and something I noticed last year was he was often right with his man on the lead he just struggled to get the spoil in - which is something relatively easy to teach with good coaching, and he did a few very good ones on the weekend. I was quite impressed with him on the weekend.

He also looks to have bulked up over summer (as would be expected for a 2nd year player).

He will be at least a good player for us. I wouldn't go talking Scarlett, but he'll be ok.

That I don't think back to a time when in U16s we got smashed the first few rounds and think I learned the most out of that (other than A divy being a lot higher standard then B)

Still don't see how it relates to AFL, Melbourne FC or James Frawley

It was in reply to Dappa Dan (or whoevers) post about you learning the most when you're being absolutely smashed

Yeah, I equate that to people saying it's good luck when a bird shits on you....

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
