Melbourne v Brisbane

Featured Replies

On a positive note, we've kicked our highest score for the year. And it has happened to come the week after Neita's injury.

Brisbane 19.23.137

Very lucky that wasn't bigger.

Indeed.

We should have lost by over 100 given how many times Brisbane had the ball in their forward 50.

Pressure was off in the last quarter and hence we played a lot better. We cannot play football under pressure. I'm sure we hit targets at training too.

Oh and the game plan is always going to change when you get first possession in the midfield, which we didn't do all day until the last quarter (and Belly finally played in the midfield... WOO! :D)

We have the worst midfield in the league. When brisbane have a clearance its clean

I think its time for valenti

while i think he might get a run soon, do you truly believe that valenti, a rookie listed player, who has never played afl, only ever vfl will be so good that he changes our midfield?

Maybe you should have responded to the ad in the paper for the coaching job, because now I am a Bailey disbeliever. I previously had faith in him, thought his pre-season was OK, but I am now so incredibly frustrated listening to our absolute insipidness (though apparantly we tried a bit harder in the 3rd quarter). We've gotta try one on one, because there's no way this game plan is going to succeed. 6 attempts to get something right, and we can't.

Btw, we haven't scored 100 points yet this year have we? I think the best we've done is 12 goals. This is our problem. I think our defence is actually not as bad as it looks.

our defence isnt that bad, and stats suggest our forward line isnt that bad either (or wasnt today): based on scores from limited forward 50 entries.

what we seem to struggle with is in the midfield and across half forward (60-70 out). we dont seem to a) have enough people running to make space and present or B) be able to hit targets when we do have players. ie handballs are sweeping and at feet. kicks are over heads.

Wheatley roosts it from the kick-in, White takes a mark, handball to McLean, handball to Jones, goal. 4 possessions, no turn overs, goal. Why not do that more often?

because most of the time a long kick in to a contest results in a spoil and then a turnover. a turnover usually results in an opposition shot at goal.

i thought warnock and sylvia were really good. and aussie was awsome!

I actually don't think that's true. At any rate, why is a possibility of a turnover inside 50 (due to poor execution) better than the possibility of one 60 meters from goal, where any positive result puts us closer to goal, while a negative one is far enough away that an opposition goal is unlikely? All I know is that I would rather see the ball in the enemy's hands outside of 50 than inside. Same goes for our team. The closer we are to goal with the ball in our hands, the better. Particularly given the type of players at our disposal.

Those who want Valenti in the side are not saying he is the panacea for our woes, and now you're trying to put an unreachable ceiling on his performances from now on.

He's 21, he's the best player in the VFL and he deserves a go.

The end. Goodbye.

a long kick in the down the centre of the ground in the coridoor is a lower percentage option than kicking it short to a player on his own.

we cant hit targets 15meters away. we struggled all day today with our disposal. why do you think its better to kick to a contest, a long way away, where if the ball spills to the opposition they are in the hot seat (50 metres out, directly infront, open forward line), than to try and maintain some possession? im not saying 15 m chip kicks is the way to go, but bomb it long and hope for the best, is not smart football.

that the players appear to have lower skills than the D4 ammos is not the fault of the game plan.

we have two distinct issues, gameplan and player skills/application. if the players could hit targets by hand and foot. take marks, sheppard and run according to the plan and we still got no where then yes i would blame the plan.

no you do make a good point, i am a bit despondent the way the season is going so far and perhaps am too quick to write him off. but i just cant see him coming in and making an immediate impact at afl that affects the course of a game. im not sure i can see him doing any better than the current crop are going.

he will get a go at some point with neitz now on the LTI list and i wish him luck. but will his addition change our sides performances at all?

One on One and we held our own, theres a game plan, if we all beat our opponents or the majortiy do in a 1 on 1 game plan chances are we will win. What our game plan should be.

Now take that to nasa, get them to analyze it, throw in patches where we run around looking for the worst option available but in doing so keeping possession until another handball later we do give up possession, throw in random arrows that lead to no where and point to all point s all over the ground and thats the game plan we have.

Drummed up by retards are us.

I saw us hit 3 players in a row on the chest in the 2nd quarter.

Unfortunately they played for Brisbane.
