whether Neita takes it or not(i think he should and will) the most pleasing aspect is we are only going to have 1, not 9 blokes on some stupid rotation policy, hence a leadership group. anyone agree

Certainly do agree with that - I think most do. The issue seems to be whether Green or McLean should be the next to take it... I would like another year out of Neita then the baton handed to which of the two candidates has proven themselves a leader, and a winner, on and off the field.

i think Bruce and Green may have missed the boat, because if it is passed to either of them it may only be for 2-3 years. leaving McLean Jones and possibly Bate to prove themselves worthy, and captain the club for 5-6 years and lead this group of kids. but who ever Neitz passes the baton to , it should make a interesting contest....cant wait

It's practiacally a Melbourne tradition, having one long-serving Captain followed by a two-year stint, followed by another long serving captain. Been that way for thirty years!

Alves 5 years

Ditterich 2 years

Flower 7 years

Healy 2 years

Lyon 7 years

Viney 2 years

Neitz ongoing

... ... ... ... ...

Green/Bruce? 2 years

Mclean 11 years ;)

Give the captaincy to Green and put a nail in our coffin for this year.

If you really analyse why we are front runners, it's actually Green who has come out as number 1 offender. When he is a half back flank it is a lottery whether he will play well or not.

Would be the softest captain in the AFL and goes missing far too often.

Bruce is a better footballer but wish he kicked like Green. He could be captain but would prefer Mclean or with another couple of good years under his belt , then Jones would be a chance.

yeha i remember the bloke barging in the bathroom door as would u. I am entitled to my opinion. U guys are just too sensitive on the issue. You cant actually accept that some people dont actually like some of the players. Jeez i would be commended for saying that i hated holland, miller or nick smith. But ohh leave neita alone...hes untouchable. Seriously grow up. This is a forum and i appreciate prob noone agrees with me but i have other melbourne supporters who share similar views as i do. I have my reasons for not liking neitz and i am entitled to express thoes as long as its not in a rude manner. Not everyone believes neitz is so great. And for jesus sake dont take everything as a critism. Im sure neitz wouldnt agree with me but how does that affect u guys? I still support the club, i get to as many games as i can, i donate for every game we win and buy membership every year. And just because i dont like the captain im not a real supporter. Jeez some of u guys are disterbed

Surely you realised using the word "hate" towards the captain of our footy club is a little extreme and would [censored] people off?

I've always had major issues with Neita, but he's never shat in my soup so I've no reason to hate the bloke.

occo...i think what has upset people initially was the fact that you said u hated neitz and didnt want him to be captain.......surely u cant expect people to have some constructive criticism or a little debate about such a comment as that...and yes, this is a forum and you have been here a lot longer than i have and no one is denying that you are aloud to say comments about david neitz but it is going to effect people..escpecially if you are slurring about one of the clubs favourite sons and saying that you HATE him...if you have a personal problem with him, or have had an incident, you are one person not the entire community, u cant expect people to not react to your comment

Neitz will be captain obviously, if he wants it..... But if the great man doesn't feel he can do the job then there is only one man who can!

Give it to Daniel Bell.....

(Sits back and waits for the storm to begin)

As long as we stick to 1 captain only... Can't stand how these other teams have rotational or multiple captains. Such a cop out... It would be like having 3 captains in the aussie test team. A joke. The captaincy should be sacred. One man only. It is an honoured position where 21 other men look to 1 man for leadership. Leadership groups are great but leave the captaincy alone. I personally hope Neitz does 1 more year in such a big year for the club. They need his experience. New coach, new players, celebrating 150 years. The spotlight will be on us. McLean to do it after that though. He is the obvious choice. Not scared to voice his opinion and i suspect wears his heart on his sleeve. Would put his body on the line for the team no doubt. Thats what you want in a skipper, especially with the reputation we seem to be getting (amongst my mates anyway  ) See how he goes this year though...

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
