Current WAFL players Blake Broadhurst (Subiaco), Kyal Horsley (Subiaco) and Brad Dalziell (East Fremantle) have been given permission to train with AFL club Fremantle ahead of the draft period.

All three players starred in the 2007 WAFL Reserves Grand Final in September with Broadhurst snagging seven goals in a 15-point extra-time win to the Lions.

Horsley booted three goals in the contest, while Dalziell was also impressive with two majors.

Around the league, several Irish players are training with various AFL clubs, while delisted players such as Ashely Sampi (training with Melbourne), Darren Pfeiffer (Richmond), Callum Urch (Hawthorn) and Kepler Bradley (Fremantle) are attempting to reignite their careers.

Playing in Queensland means they would have to go and find him and if they think he is worth the punt then good for them.......

He might be a muture aged player (23yr old) but he one of the biggest engines i've seen from a player not playing AFL.

Al Neville has far more football prowess than Godfrey. He has awareness and good disposal, things that were sadly lacking in Godfrey. He's well worth a place on our list.

I think it could be, alot of athletes can cross sports easily, take Dean Brogan for example.

yes i have seen him play plenty of times and his disposal lacks class and his pace isn't flashy at all.. yes good vfl player but c'mon if simon godfrey played a full year of vfl footy he would have carved it up and people wud want him drafted without even watching him play. If Neville is as good as people say then he would be on a afl list by now. i think u just judge him by what u read about him in the newspapers.

Neville was judged best on ground in the state match against Western Australia this year, he won a B&F at Coburg, came third in the 2005 B&F at Box Hill when injury sidelined him for half the season; and was Vic Metro vice-captain in the 2003 Teal Cup. Neville’s got a good footy pedigree but he does lack pace and this seems to have kept him off an AFL list thus far. But the bloke can play: he’s a good mark, he reads the play well, and he uses the ball cleverly. Neville reminds me a bit of Andrew Leoncelli and let’s not forget that Leoncellii was judged too slow and not up to it by Carlton. Plenty of good players have had to battle hard and overcome rejections to get on an AFL list, to get on Melbourne’s list for that matter: Shane Woewodin, Brett Lovett, Guy Rigoni, Anthony and James McDonald, Nathan Carroll just to name a few. I reckon Neville could well be worth a selection in a couple of weeks time.

Good summation of Al Neville NJH. Sam Mitchell was another who dominated at TAC Cup level, but was initially overlooked in the draft due to his perceived lack of pace.

BTW DD36, being an ex Coburg supporter who lives near the City Oval, i've seen Neville play many times. I rate him and Valenti extremely highly.

"206cm, 100kg (approx) ruck. Played U18s with Dandenong Stingrays in 2001 (team mate of Paul Johnson's), and trialled for the Vic Metro side that year, then went to Glenelg (SANFL) in 2002 and played Seniors there in 2003 but played 2005 in Reserves then went to E Freo after 2005. Very good WAFL Seniors form (ruck) since then.

Invited to 2003 state screening session when playing for Glenelg but, not suprisingly, returned a poor beep test and a shocking 20m time.

Been a steady improver over the years and a big improver since 2005.

As an 18yo, Michael was very immature (in the non-physical sense) for his age and was slow, awkward (even allowing for the fact he was still growing into his body), and a slow thinker but was excellent at hitouts and not too bad around the ground either (although often had hard hands). Had a disconcerting habit of not listening at the 1/4, 3/4 time huddles (not arrogance, just regularly distracted through poor powers of concentration). Used to do too much spectating and still does (for AFL).

Originally from Rowville, came from a financially disadvantaged background and had to do it tough compared to many other kids so I would love to see him drafted for his own sake.

Griffiths is very team orientated and has had a very good '06 WAFL season for the bottom team, averaging 11 disposals, 4 marks and 22 hitouts (4th best in the WAFL for hitouts per game). Woewodin got good supply from Griffiths all year. Good '07 WAFL. Griffiths is a long kick who was prone as an U18 to more than occasional shocking kicks but has improved greatly in that area, as he has with marking, over the years. I still wouldn't class his kicking or marking (against strong opposition) as particularly reliable though. He is much better at ball-ups, especially centre bounce, than at throw-ins. I think throw-ins require a bit more guile and that is not Michael's strong suit.

He loves his footy and is apparently a likeable, easy-going young man.

Regrettably, I'm not convinced he is made for the intensity of an AFL environment (on and off-field) and for sophisticated game plans. At 206cm, he is overall a very good tap ruck but not the type to be running up and down the field as the current style of AFL footy demands. I'm also not convinced he is all that well equipped to handle the scrutiny pressure and nastiness that AFL players can get subjected to.
