They all prefer VB to Carlton Draught?

Preseason draft?

Close but no banana.

All rookies?

What about an "above 60 pick team"? Put in Hird and Bruce for starters.

All started on the rookie list.

We have a winner. ;)

The only problem was having to fashion a make shift full forward, but gee I'd kill for that backline.

Excellent!!

So Graz, why are we wasting our time with these useless high picks this year then? ;)

Couldn't you sneak in Russell Robertson? I think he was rookied at one stage.

It's got me beat... apparently pick 14 is useless.

Sorry Maurie... didn't qualify... We originally used a fourth round pick and my criteria are set in stone. :D

Graz - i made up a similar team a few weeks ago. Looks like I missed a few good players.

B: Carroll Rutten Bassett

HB: Kenelly Michael Lockyer

C: C. Fletcher J. McDonald M. Johnson

HF: Rioli Robertson Pearce

FF: Davey Q. Lynch Milne

Ruck: Cox Kirk Sewell

Int: Sandilands Lovett-Murray Rooke Bock

Sorry I missed that one... didn't mean to steal your thunder.... looks like I might've missed some as well Kirk and Kenneally - geez I reckon I'd be able to slot them in. I didn't include Bassett or Michael, because ... well just because.

Here is my team

Kane Munro, Michael J. Clark, Marcus Pickett

Steven Greene, Blake Campbell, Allen Murray

Jeremy Humm, Rod Crowe, Tom Davidson

Ben Finnin, Simon Cox, Josh Houlihan

Darren Walsh, Brad Murphy, Scott Bassett

Tim Fleming, Bill Nicholls, Greg Edgcumbe, Josh Thewlis

See what they have in common...they are all crap and went after 25. The reality is that after 20 or so its really about the quality of the recruiters. Collingwood have been able to capitalise over the last few years as has geelong. Sure there are some good players after 25 but they are harder to find. We can't tell yet how good Bailey and the recruitment boys are at spotting hidden talent. So until then lets just be happy with our top 3 picks and hope they don't stuff them up!

LOL

Much better than the Meesen thread

No thunder stolen. I actually meant i wrote it elsewhere, not on demonland

Hang on while I make a team of Top 10 picks that were crap ... Sampi, Molan, Walsh, Bradley, Tenace, Chris Egan in recent drafts just for starters. What point exactly are you making with these teams?

The chances of a good pick are never 100%, even for pick 1 (we might get a dud for pick 14). They are probably something like 95% for pick 1, 90% for top 5, 75% for first round, 60% for second round, 50% for third round and <40% for fourth round and later.

So the chances diminish the further down the picks you go, until the fourth round is nearly all speculative. That's the luck of the process ... educated guessing. Until you realise that, logic goes out the window when trying to make any sense at all of good or failed picks.

Notice a common thread amongst these top ten picks.

4 Mark Bolton, 6 James Walker, 7 Kris Massie

10 Shane O'Bree, 4 Ryan Fitzgerald, 5 Michael Stevens

6 Murray Vance, 10 Brandon Hill, 3 Aaron Fiora

5 Leigh Brown, 6 Damian Cupido, 7 Danny Roach

9 Caydn Beetham, 4 Luke Livingston, 5 Andrew McDougall

6 Dylan Smith, 7 Laurence Angwin, 10 Jordan McMahon

6 Ashley Sampi, 9 Luke Molan, 10 Sam Power, 4 Tim Walsh,8 Luke Brennan, 4 Farren Ray, 6 Kepler Bradley, 7 Kane Tenace, 9 David Trotter

Damn i wish we got rid of pick 4

damn u.

Well that's just completely wrong - Craig Cameron is reponsible for recruiting and he's been there for quite a while and has a track record we can judge ...

The following players were drafted (or traded) onto our current list after pick 25:

B: Whelan Carroll Warnock

HB: CJ Rivers Ferguson

C: Buckley McDonald Bode

HF: Garland Miller Davey

F: Robertson Newton PJ

R: Jamar Bruce Bartram

I: Meesen Hughes Weetra

Enough said!

And don't forget that Mitchell played VFL before becoming the clearance machine he is now.

Brent Prismall was drafted (number 32 overall) in the 2004 National Draft.

My bad, It was the next player on the Geelong list Max Rooke that was the Rookie draft. Doesn't matter though. I'd have to put in Kirk for him... not a bad replacement. The point being there are a lot of very, very good players available every year in the second and third rounds of the draft, to say that it's a thin draft and we won't get anything good after the first round is just plain stupid. There always is, and as pointed out it comes back to the quality of your recruiting staff. If Anyone's up for the challenge, see if you can't construct your best team of first round draftees compared to second and third round draftees. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
