As reported in The Age this morning:

Kangaroos ruckman Brad Moran may have played his last game for the club. Adelaide and Melbourne are the two clubs still in the race with Essendon losing interest yesterday.

Note: Sorry if this has already been mentioned elsewhere but I can't seem to find any mention.

Soccer-playing Brad Moran emigrated from England to Australia's northern state of Queensland just 4 years ago at the age of 15 - now making his first appearance for the AFL's North Melbourne Kangaroos. His remarkable adaptation to the indigenous code is profiled in a recent WFN story and then last Friday on afl.com.au.

While the write up on the official AFL website was very promising, it seems he exceeded all expectations with a commanding performance for the Kangaroos the next day in their match against Hawthorn in Launceston. The 200cm Moran took 10 marks in blustery conditions that were unconducive to easy marks. He also had 13 kicks, gave out 8 handpasses, laid 3 tackles and palmed 10 hit-outs to smaller team-mates to well and truly earn his place in the losing team's official best player list.

His performance may have AFL talent scouts pondering the fact there are more than a few tall 15 year old soccer players in the world.

200cm and only 88kgs? :o

Is he related to Nicole Richie by any chance?

Certainly not Queen Latifah.

I saw that first game, he was pretty handy. The Kangas gave him number 18, so they must have rated him highly enough at the time to think he wouldn't be worried by the stigma or the expectations of taking over that number.

I dunno... not sure he's much of an upgrade on what we have.

Would we get BOTH Meeson and Moran, and keep all three of White, Jamar and Johnson? Five ruckman, none of which can genuinely play another position (PJ being the closest).

Taken with a fourth round pick by the Kangaroos. I have a feeling we might have taken him as a Rookie if he were available. He's in Adelaide having a medical apparently. I wonder how interested we are/were? Seems likely that the Crows will be replacing Meesen with Moran - maybe with whatever pick/s we give to them.

According to the Kangas site he weighs 103kg!!

i would defintely go for Moran, perhaps for pick 43 that we are getting for Chris Johnson to Stkilda.

we can then delist Jamar coz he is hopeless and will never become a number 1 ruckman.

that will leave us with White (number1 ruck but only 1-2 seasons left), PJ (a great backup ruck option who can play key position), Meeson (a highly talented and developing number1 ruck), and Moran (a highly talented and developing number 1 ruck)

also, its muchmuch better to get these young talented ruckman who are onyl 20-21 years old for cheap, rather than wasting lots of draft picks on 17 year olds who will hopefully turn into good ruckman.

Meesen and Moran are clever ways of protecting our ruck options post White

I would go for Moran. Not many trade years do so many ruckman come up for offer. Its the weakest part of our team and FB so if we can get his signiture i would be estatic. On the other hand, he would be worth something better than 43. Kangas wont buy that as the talant in this draft is good to about pick 25 and then it dwindles off. They would want at least a 3rd rounder for him i would imagain but worth a go anyway

Second cousin of Ryan Ferguson, actually.

Second cousin of Ryan Ferguson, actually.

i heard he just needs another preseason in the gym and he'll bulk up...

WOW!

Are we trying to have 22 ruckman in the same side? What the hell are we thinking?? Nothing agaisnt Moran, but we had 3 ruckman last year, and just added a FOURTH. A 5th would be beyond overkill.

We need some defenders. 5 ruckman??? Unless CAC has some divine plan, i would give Moran a miss and develop Meesen.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
