The state of the VFL ladder after Round 3:

The Brisbane Lions have been a strong team in recent seasons but they have struggled to date. Casey need the win to get among the early contenders.

Isn't it so great that in a competition with even numbers, 10 teams have had a bye by round THREE?

It's an absolute joke and a disgrace.

How do the AFL claim to run an elite competition with such a massive disconnect to the reserves comp.

It's well overdue that someone stood up and took responsibility for this garbage, but I guess the AFL executives are more interested in sampling wine in the Barrossa and selling whatever games they can to the highest bidder than running a proper football competition.

By the end of the year XT will have replaced TMAC in the 1s. Developing nicely.

I agree about the replacing idea but no idea how anyone can know if he’s developing nicely .. sample size is almost non existent

He seems very comfortable at VFL level already, compared to our other younger talls (Adams, Jeffo) who took along time to be competitive

Whilst on a wayward direction Why did the VF play Sanfl when there was basically very little attendance at the ground? Why does the AFL teams put up with a crappy VFL fixture , surely you would want your'e players in peak condition. In our case our fringe players get 2 weeks holidays. At even number teams should have no ongoing weekly byes. ( a mid season bye is o.k). I would make 2 divisions (conference) involving existing VFL clubs plus 2 teams from S.A. Finals to be played top 4 of the 2 divisions. AFL senior teams should reduce their list by getting rid of rookie A and B players for starters. All the reserves players( max 20) are on the payroll and can be selected for the seniors. The reserve players cannot be poached thru out the season. If the AFL cannot make the VFL a better system then we should dump the reserves. Hopefully Kalani is back this week.

Adams is competitive ? When did that happen - looks all at sea every time I've watched him which is a fair bit. Personally, I can't see how he keeps a list spot

On XT I think he will develop into a good mid sized defender in a similar role to Lever but faster and imo much better foot skills. Don't think he will ever have the size to play on the big forwards

I will be watching Kalani closely this year and hoping he shows some promise as a future key position player (KPF or KPD) as this is an area we are crying out for new talent

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
