Lindsay appears to be an outside defender with ordinary athleticism and an outstanding boot. It’s not a combination that you see often at AFL level, with a lot of the defensive distributors in the AFL being quick or being midfielders/forwards that get moved into defensive positions to maximise their strengths.

But maybe there’s something this keyboard warrior is missing, as I’m no expert and am just going of the same videos everyone else watches.

Jasper fletcher plays a defensive distributor role fairly well.. isn’t a contested player and averages less than 2 tackles a game

Yes nice, quick distribution over varying distances which is very good and "first option" is a great mindset. But I also want to see some line breaking 80-90m run and kick plays mixed in there too for the role.

It’s 2 different roles and almost doesn’t exist in the afl. Those that break lines are traditionally average kicks and make poor decisions. His direct 30m kicks is what breaks lines.

Nick Martin is horrible by foot as in NWM. Also, the way teams break lines is by foot not by running like maniacs trying to outrun everyone

Lindsay looks good. He's certainly a player I'd be happy with he was available with our picks. I think he would have the ability to augment our backline in a meaningful way and would be supplemental to Bowey, if JL continued to develop as a defender. From his footage he certainly seems to be that 'distributor' type player who can push up the ground and work-in with transition play. I will say, immediately from the footage that it looked like he could replace Salem. Also, he seemed to be more willing to take risker options with some flare, whilst still hitting targets; he definitely didn't seem to merely take part in stagnated distribution across the D50 arc.

I guess the knock on him is his lack of contested work. His draft profile was pretty spot on according to the footage I've seen (albeit, limited footage), but I feel that the CTL and National Championships don't always accord themselves to a great deal of contested footy and two way running, in the same way that we see at the AFL level. I'm not entirely dismissing these noted weaknesses, but I probably lean towards this side of the game being able to be moulded on an AFL list and within an AFL system.

I think he ticks a lot of boxes for us, particularly with his kicking and ability to transition the footy which are areas we've been relatively deficient in post 2021.

Dan says 🗣 Blind Freddy can see that Melbourne has struggled with their ball movement over the years. Lindsay is the best kick in the draft, with his left-foot laser hitting targets all over the ground this year. The ultra-professional prospect is capable of playing right away at the Dees off halfback and is a big watch for SuperCoach in 2026.

NWM a horrible kick?? He’s the best kick in the league. Sure he misses a few but he hits most including the difficult ones.

For Brisbane it’s Zorko, Fletcher and whilst he’s more run, bomb it and hope it works out Wilmot. For Zorko especially it’s less about blistering runs but knowing he has a short burst of speed to take a handball receive coming forward.

Tom Stewart is the main guy for Geelong but Guthrie does it well too. And when they want genuine run and carry they push Max Holmes to half back

The designated distributor — and arguably the best kick in the draft. He’s a great decision-maker who rarely wastes a disposal with that precise left boot. He can play off half-back or on a wing, given he loves to use his run and carry to generate plays out of defence. Lindsay had a consistent champs campaign for Vic Country, averaging 21.8 disposals and going at 74 per cent efficiency by foot to earn All-Australian honours. He’s a big-game player too, named best on ground for Team Heppell in the Under 17s Futures match at the MCG on AFL Grand Final day last year then named the AFL Academy’s best player for his 25-disposal game against VFL side Coburg this year. Was looming as a top-10 chance a few months ago, but a few other prospects might’ve gone ahead of him. Melbourne might be a chance, but his range more likely starts at Hawthorn (Pick 10), the Giants (Pick 12) and the Western Bulldogs (Pick 14). You’d think one of Geelong (Pick 19) or Fremantle (Pick 20) would pounce if Lindsay somehow got that far.
