RICKY PETTERD

I am a bit confused though. Has he also got a broken rib or something? The article said a punctured lung.

Demon suffers collapsed lung

I heard an exerpt of an interview with Ricky's dad, he credited the Melbourne medical staff with doing everything right when he came off. But one thing that was interesting was that the doctors said it might not have even happened during the game, it could've been a bubble inside his lungs that developed last week.

said quick thinking by the doctors saved his life, lets all give the doctors a big hand, they deserve it

Yeah same- i would also like to thank the doctors for their quick thinking and actions.

Keep up the good work Melbourne Doctors :)

He'll be alright! I've had collapsed a lung before... it hurts like you would not believe, and at the time it feels like youre going to die until they reinflate your lung... But he'll be alright.

It sounded a little bit more serious than that, if you believe the newspaper reports.

You know the thing I worry about? I play WRFL and there's if this were to happen to me or one od my team mates (as rare occurance as it is), we'd probably die because they don't have the treatment.

Get well soon Ricky. You've been great in your debut year, and we'll be glad to have you at the club for many years to come.

Get well soon Ricky and hopefully the operation has no major complications and we see you next running around fit next year in our 150th year

I understood this condition was not a result of playing football and more a pre-existing problem.

How right you are kryton.......

Petterd's collapse blamed on cyst

The fact that a cyst caused the collapsed lung is much better news than had it been caused by a football injury. eg crushed ribs etc, etc. This means that young Ricky will NOT LACK CONFIDENCE when he resumes playing next season. He has impressed me greatly with his football brain and his cool and creative play. Well done young man!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
