2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

Featured Replies

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

Always had had high hopes for Sparrow. Similar build to Tracc.

Unfortunately he never seemed to do anything great.

For me , he was very lucky to be selected so often.

But more likely due to lack of depth.

Not a ball magnet.

Not fussed if he goes. In fact probably best if we can move him on.

100% agree.

I think Sparrow kicked 10 goals for the year rather than the 1 goal as listed. One would have been an awful return for a capable goal kicker such as Sparrow.

I will always remember the GF goal he kicked over 55 metres off one step. (the second of the 'BANGS')Such coolness and power with 4 Bulldogs closing from all points of the compass. Also that beautiful long kick to Ben Brown for a goal which increased our lead to 5 goals in the GF. Hope we keep him. He gives his all. King may bring out the very best in him.

I’m sure he’s a great bloke and teammate, but he offers our side very little.

He’s not really even handy depth, given how little he impacts games.

If we are to improve as a team, we need to move the likes of him on.

if I’m the club I’m giving him one more chance to prove his worth as either a pressure half forward or inside mid and if yet again he disappoints I’m moving him on or telling him he’s likely to spend most of next year at Casey for depth, he simply doesn’t offer enough

Tommy Sparrow kicked one beauty and set up three others in the Granny. I’m hoping that Steven King can reinvigorate him back to that type of role, not enough impact as a high pressure forward / tagger. He’s got a good leg we need to utilise it.

Has never taken the next step after his 2021 finals series heroics.

Doesn't win enough ball as a midfielder and doesn't kick enough goals as a half forward.

Here's hoping King can bring the best out of Sparrow next season.

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval.
