2025 draft picks: 7, 8, 37, 66, 71

A new King calls for a new army, and Melbourne will enter 2026 as a shockingly different semblance of its 2025 version. Two top-10 picks will add to the quality youngsters coming through, and Jack Steele was a late-but-important inclusion after Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca left. Brody Mihocek will offer plenty up forward and Changkuoth Jiath gives the Demons something different in the back half.

Surprised Kentfield is starting 18 and Culley isn’t even on the bench.

I thought Culley showed he has some X-factor about him.

I've been liberal with the positions with the more versatile guys so take them with a grain of salt

Probably lacks another pressure fwd but they're no fun

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
