If he was still playing, I have little doubt that Gus would be our captain atm (and a damn good one at that).

How Zurich has treated him is disgraceful, but unsurprising given they are an insurance company. That they remain one of our principal sponsors is a massive slap in the face to Gus from the MFC.

This is not how we should treat one of our favourite sons.

The reality was always covert spying, and always has been. One would hope for a unified Class Action but that probably won't eventuate, as they would split representation. The AFL will go tooth and nail to kill this, with the Company, threatening all and sundry to pass on costs to us, players and clubs. They are scum as well.

Ive cracked. I'm putting tape over their logo when I whack on my guernsey on Sunday.

Yes I'm 42 and wear a footy jumper to the footy. What of it

If every Melbourne supporter did that… Media would probably edit it, but 100% it would get noticed.

The Insurance industry is a shady industry, they'll frustrate you into submission and do their best to avoid a payout.
While they support the club, a division of Zurich is simultaneously making life difficult for one of our favourite sons. It’s an awkward impasse.

Believe the deal runs end of this year, i think we'd all like to see them gone for season 2027 but we do need a major co-partner to pay the bills

If Every clubs dropped every sponsor for doing things the supporters don't like, then there will be no more sponsors left

There has to be a line otherwise we’d have Gazprom on our jumper, for me the line is effing over a great club servant.

I wonder what our reaction would be as supporters if it wasn’t Gus, but say a Collingwood player who Zurich were refusing to pay out?

(And don’t suggest Maynard as an example because I know what our reaction would be!).

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
