A perfect day tomorrow for afternoon football at the empty MCG and we will be under the lights of a closed roof

So the roof will be closed?

Surely the roof will be open on a beautiful sunny day?

I don’t work in an office all week to be indoors to watch footy!

There is a good reason why They don’t open the roof

Their is an undeniable collective statistical decline of the core group that delivered the 2021 premiership and still plays in 2024. This drop in output—particularly among key midfielders and defenders—has not been offset by the emergence of new talent. While a few players have shown modest improvement, no incoming player has matched the impact or consistency of the premiership players still on the list creating a widening performance gap that has contributed to the club’s overall stagnation and regression across key indicators. We'll see in the next few months if this trend is reversing.

I honestly feel like our top 5 are still in the same ballpark as what they were in 2021, its our bottom 5-10 that has been the biggest issue. We won our premiership because our bottom 5 players were still capable and solid contributors, but for the last few years it's felt like most weeks we're carrying players. Even in 2022 when we started 10-0 our bottom 5 were pretty average (and Goodwin didn't have the guts to rotate the squad).

Now this season our depth has been hit pretty hard, with Judd out you would've expected AMW to step right in. Koz out, McAdam was having a great pre-season until his injury. Melk is still a week or two away meaning our forward line is thin. It's no surprise that we had to turn to 6 new players 5 of which were playing their first AFL game.

But we need to get back to that ethos of everyone is an important part of the team, everyone has to impact in some way.

Oh and it's time Goody lit a fire under Fritta, if he plays a [censored] game again this week I'd be tempted to play him as the sub or drop him altogether.

Can people stop being so negative about our team? It's only round 2 and we nearly beat one of the premiership favourites. Maybe we'll lose tomorrow, maybe we'll win, but I think we need to give it more time before we write off the year.

Yep, super neggy around these parts.

Looking forward to some wins and some posters disappearing again for a while.

Clearly the roof is closed for every game at Marvel.

If they closed it on a 30 degree night last week, creating a sauna for everyone involved, they’ll be closing it tomorrow.

I agree that they should show a bit of discretion in regards to opening it every now and then.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
