I'm not as enamoured as most. I think what you see is close to the finished product with him (as a short, well built, agile inside midfielder with high level technique already) and I'm just not sure that's his level is as good as others in the top 5. I don't particularly like his work in tight, where his feet are really quick but his hands aren't great (for a player of his type) nor his decisions in close. I think his feet buy him a lot of the time he needs to make decisions, which often aren't great.

If we're looking at Draper vs Smith, I like Smith a lot more because he has the types of skills needed to succeed as a small accumulator, which are his hands, his composure, and ability to manage heavy traffic in tight. They're the main question marks I have on Draper. That's not to say he won't be a good player, especially with his obvious professionalism.

Agree entirely on Draper. His feet to win the ball are great but he doesn’t have the physical strength to break tackles or the fast hands.

But probably still have him just over Smith because of the issues I have with Jagga and most of Smith’s best work is in the Coates league. Draper came back from injury underdone in to the champs then pretty much straight in to SANFL.

The other concern with Draper is he had a shin stress fracture then a back stress fracture at the end of the year. I wonder if teams are dinging him for injuries.

I do laugh that for every single one of your critic of Jagga who is a genuine top 3 propsect on talent, you're then more then happy to then select Ollie Hannaford at pick 9 which is a comedy show in itself.

Hannaford at 9 would be just a bigger draft blunder as Barry Prendergast selecting Gysberts at pick 11.

More than happy to admit I don’t have access to the interviews, GPS, family background etc so I’d need to work out just what’s going on with the 2km time. If there’s no dedication it’s a risk. If it’s a kid who’s a bit chunky in the boarding house then I’m all for it.

In a half deep forward he ran down Ricky Mentha to set up a shot at goal, took a contested mark on 2 opponents, set up a goal by winning the ball bursting though congestion, casually goals from 50 and kicked another bouncing off an opponent whilst winning the footy.

Jagga, he’s Alex Neal-Bullen level talent with the ability to play an extra year of Coates league. He’ll have a solid career, but marking, tackling, burst speed, long kicking, breaking tackles, opposite foot kicking, he doesn’t do any of that. Big body - nope. Aggressive - nope. Speedy - nope. Elite endurance - nope. 

And if you’re relitigating that era of demon drafting then there might not have been a worse pick than Tom Scully at 1 with Dusty on the board. 

The draft is for finding long term talent not who the best junior footballer is.

Hannaford is a 20-30 draft propsect. Picking him at 9 would be one of the all time biggest draft blunders ever.

Fancy using a top 10 pick of a kid that is completely unfit and out of shape. And don't use Oliver as an example. Oliver was putting up ridiculous numbers week by week as noted by winning the Morrish medal.

Cam Rayner did his 2km in 7:57 before the draft. Did anyone care when he kicked a snag on his non preferred from 50 out to win brisbane a final? Got a time for Sam Lalor, I’d be shocked if it’s below 7 minutes.

How about Kai Lohmann, 5 goals in 9 games in his draft year! He’d now go top 10 in a 2021 redraft, ahead of all the midfielders aside from the 3 freaks at the top.

Kossie Pickett, did stuff all in the national champs and played 1 great sanfl reserves game but otherwise didn’t touch it for most of the year.

Hannaford kicked 21 goals in 9 games, more than just one good game. Then he went on ball in the grand final and looked perfectly comfortable mixing it with Ashcroft, Reid and Marshall.

There’s value in Jagga’s reading of the play and his clean hands especially at stoppages. But he has so little razzle dazzle. Pick out his best plays each week and you’ll make a nice highlight video because he’s so prolific. But watch each game at a time and there’s a lot of nothing around the ground stuff and to me a big doubt on the value of possessions without impact.

based on the scant highlights i'd say jagga smith most resembles jack macrae, albeit in a smaller frame, or darcy parish

he's a high possession player and will, like those guys, go top 10 and be denigrated by some / praised by others for his consistency and quality depending upon the eye of the beholder

he certainly gets a LOT of the ball, and that's half the challenge
