Bowey’s season was curtailed early when he sustained a shoulder injury that required surgery in the opening game against Sydney. As a consequence, he was never able to perform consistently or at anywhere near his previous levels.

Date of Birth: 12 September 2002
Height: 175cm

Games MFC 2024: 14
Career Total: 61

Goals MFC 2024: 0
Career Total: 6

Watched the 2021 finals a few weeks back (yeah I'm desperate to see a winning final)

Could not help but notice that Bowey often found space due to comparatively slow movement into our defensive zone by other teams.

Can he deal with super fast corridor or zig zag style now favoured by many teams. Not sure.

It's probably a question that applies to many of our defenders

That’s a good question Diamond _Jim, he never looked settled in any of his games after returning from injury. He was recruited for his footy IQ and elite disposal so he has an advantage over a lot of players, it’s up to the FD to position him to our advantage and for Jake to recapture his fitness and mojo.

Did not have a good year at all after his return from injury.

I wish he ventured up forward more often as he’s a tremendous kick on the run from around the 50 arc.

Needs to have a very good pre-season and set himself up for a big year.

He has regressed like many on our list.

OMG the poor bugger through no fault of his own (except perhaps courage) broke his clavicle - whilst the fracture itself heals in 6-8 weeks, there is naturally some reticence to take an impact for much longer.  Regression like many on our list is a bit  way over the top.

Lets judge him on how he performs in 2025, after a full pre season.

I should’ve clarified that his regression began in 2023 imo.

To me it seemed to start after he came back from that nasty shoulder injury.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
