More than that. I get a sense of a paid Tripadvisor-style 'review farm' going on here, which wouldn't be unfamiliar to Peter during his time in Southeast Asia. Totally based on instinct as a writer, but there are some striking similarities in the phrasing being used by various posters, and a 'voice' which doesn't match their previous posts.

I think that there is more than that going on.

Did you read what I wrote about how the perception of our club is damaging it?

Do you not think it is the responsibility of the board and management team to control the brand narrative of our club?

When joining the club I did so having read the terms of the privacy agreement which I expected to be upheld.   Had I had doubts I would not have joined the club.

It is with deep regret that I make this decision as it will cease many years of continuous membership.

Let’s put it in a corporate sense shall we?

MFC forecast a profitable year (IE top 4, commercial coverage for partners, expanding membership & additional external revenue) yet have delivered 14th position, a PR nightmare, our best players looking at options and generally mixed messaging to our membership/partners re culture/brand etc.

What organisation wouldn’t see the above and think a review was needed, one which is over and above what we normally do at seasons end. We’ve missed the mark by a wide margin. We are damaged goods again.

The best bit is, it’s a win-win. We run a review and it finds problems we can address. Win! We run a review and it says there’s nothing to see here and our [censored] season was an act of god. Win!

I think people are misinterpreting a desire for a review with a desire to see certain people burned at the stake.

It’s [censored] depressing to read some comments on here. They show how our society has lost the ability to have constructive conversations. We all support the same club and yet people can’t see the other side of a discussion.

How do you feel about club sponsors emailing you?

Have you emailed Hertz and New Balance too?

You shouldn't join any organisation that asks for your details to begin with if you are that concerned. What were you thinking Stretch? 😜

False equivalence.

Its part of the privacy agreement.

I didn't expect emails from some random dude with a beef.  What next?

Some random dude with a beef definitely sits outside that.  It's common sense.

Who initially asked the club to send emails on his behalf so he didnt have to obtain your email address and the club said no.

Go for it.

Let me know what you find out.

I am not going to do that. Doesn’t change the fact that I and others could find out granular details.

I'm very middle of the road for all things on this matter. There has been good done, but also faults on both sides. I very much respect Peter's contribution to the club and dedication.

However, the timing and content of this email just further emphasizes he does not know how to 'read the room'. To send this right now, at a time most Melbourne supporters would be sick of being punched down on, and to include a 'call to action' which I'm sure he will use for his own purposes and potentially not just for the stated outcome; paints him in a poor light in regards to being a level headed leader.

Peter, if you happen to read Demonland, I very much agree with the idea of an external review and I have my own issues with the current board, but please, going forward, take some time to have a breath and consider things before taking such actions in the future. Timing and tact are important. We have work to do now, not more battles to create.

Lawrence is reacting to an email sent out by the BOARD.

And is legally entitled to do so - according to the Judge.

"I could find out more about you in an hour if I wanted. Just using your Demonland user name as a reference point. "

So can you do this or not?

Did you just make it up to try to win some sort of argument?

That's a cop out. How about he doesn't go to court to get my protected details and he doesn't contact me in the first place.

I am going to be seeking advice of my own today.

Just unbelievable that my details have been handed to this random.

I think you were asleep in the back seat and missed a large and important part of the journey ....

I could. It wouldn’t do it as I work in a field where this is not allowed but yes, I could. The technology exists as do the people who can use it.

I was showed how to check what Google has on me and it’s outrageous the level of knowledge they have.

In addition I am not interested in arguing with you. You seem to have an axe to grind. I was merely pointing out that access to an email address is the least of your concerns if privacy is an issue.

One simple axe.

My details have been given to a random third party without my permission.

Anyway it's done now.  What a shame to finish in this way.

I miss sitting in the stands watching Robbie with my old man.

what are you going on about?

the reasons have been listed already in this thread. what facts do you want exactly.

one example. the board promised a new home base. they did not deliver. and it doesn't matter whether you think that is an important issue or not. It's their metric. at what point do you think they need to be held accountable on this point?

If your "work situation" requires "sacred" privacy as you posted, then you should be using separate email addresses, separate phone numbers and post office boxes separate from your residential address to keep your indentity as private as possible. It's on you to take these meaures if it's critical.

18 hours ago, FreedFromDesire said:

All very fair comments. I didn't particularly like the email from Kate either, both in content and tone. I do agree with you about the political delay tactics that often happen, and I'm very keen for change and feel it's coming whether this current board wants it or not, I was just suggesting perhaps Mr Lawrence could have waited a couple of weeks before sending this communication. To me, just the timing of it I think will hinder his cause as there's a bit of 'closing of ranks' going on among supporters at the moment as they feel somewhat victimized by all the recent goings on.

My gut feeling is Mr Lawrence has perhaps 'done his dash' now with his attempts to get onto the board, so I hope he can find another way to meaningfully contribute to the club. I'm not sure issuing a survey in the current climate is the best way to do that. Personally, I would love to see him channel the positivity I've seen from him previously, particularly about AFLW, into driving some positive change agendas.

“another way to meaningfully to the club” - he was sponsoring Kade Chandler until Joffey cancelled it.

I promise you mate, it’s most unlikely he will be ordered to. He won the 2022 case in the Supreme Court, the MFC had to pay his costs

About 10 years ago l believe Peter donated $250,000 to the club.A friend of mine saw him do it.

How I miss the days when all the privacy you needed was pretty much just an unlisted phone number.

So have other boards for over 30-40 years so tell me how are they going to fund it with State and Federal governments slowing down funding on the projects, do you understand the complex negotiations with Glen Eria, state and federal governments community groups groups that are against the proposal and what do expect out of This ground proposal.

We all understand how difficult getting this project off the ground is, and the failure on the home base is a legacy of decades of poor governance. This is certainly not all on our current board.

But if they got their [censored] together and sent out periodic updates, then they would resolve a lot of the angst. Members want to be informed. I shouldn't have to come on Demonland to read second hand info that the project is moving along.

Whether positive or negative, keeping the members informed, instead of sending me emails with half truths about yet another unnecessary lawsuit outcome, would be far more appreciated.

Our members are constantly being treated like fools by this administration. After years of being the laughing stock of the competition, we have returned back to our rightful place, and that is despite being one of the best performing clubs on field over the last 4 seasons!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
