PJ and White

Featured Replies

jamar is an under 18 all australian who now should be making an impact and fighting it out with jeff white as number 1 spot in the ruck. yet has not even be close to. look at mark blake has come from no where this year and has taken the next step because he knew his future was on the line! now with him doing the number one ruck duties it has forced steven king to the 2s!

Im not really sure why

Are, or have you been, watching the same Jamar as the rest of us?

Shocking. Pure and simple. He is crap.

when Melbourne look good it is when Jeff White is used as the link man down the middle corridor... he looks rank when running around the flanks and getting cheap kicks!!

In previous seasons White has presented more down the middle, and I've always thought we could have used him more in that way - at least in order to make the opposing ruckman play more accountably.

White is obviously vastly more experienced than PJ and Jamar, and has kicked great goals when needed, takes strong contested marks and still is valuable in centre clearances for one percenters and tackles. IMO He is still our number one ruckman but PJ will be valuable to share the load and no doubt continue to improve. Last year many were raving about Jamar- easily forgotten when he is not out there playing!

When looking at the hit out stats I often wonder if there is a percentage of hit outs per team ballup/bounce. eg Sydney has many more ball ups etc due to the way they play so therefore Jolly can get higher stats for hit outs. So I would like to know the percentage based on the number of opportunities for hit outs. Any sites to check that out on or is that not a stat counted.

I noted on one stat site that we are ranked second on tackles - at least one good indicator going our way. Interestingly the Roos are number one.

chasing tail all day = more tackles. another reason why i stat out of context is useless

.. he was important in the last quarter yesterday and was surprised that he was not sued up forward more..

Yeah I sure felt like suing him when he played on in the goal square and was pinged holding the ball!!!

So happy to see PJ developing well, he is still learning how to ruck at the highest level and is progressing well. Hopefully he can remain injury free and cement his place in the side. I think that he deserves more game time than he is currently getting, the coaching staff should throw him in the deep end and give him some game time against other no1 ruckmen.

Hope he doesn't have any more rushes of blood and play on when in the goal square

We've had two ruckmen move on (Simmonds and Jolly) after we had developed them. We need to show PJ that he is important and give him time so he doesn't leave as well.

PJ did all the right things today. His mark in the goal square was great -- right place, right time. He got a head full of steam and fluffed the goal chance though. I hope he learns.

By the way, who knew Jeff White had the league's highest possession count for any ruckmen in the league this year?

I did. He is doing fantastic in my supercoach :)

He should get at least equal time because he needs to develop in this position and this is now a development year.

Agree. White isn't the same since the second circle. How can you expect him to be someone 15cm taller of a standing start. White is a very talented footballer and is at the stage of his career when he needs to reinvent himsef. He can be used in other positions even though he may stuggle in them now due to lack of experience (in those positions).

Interesting point.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
