Wont be traded.

Particularly with Brayshaw gone...

Salem is no longer the player he once was, Iโ€™d have him as a solid B-grader.

Itโ€™s hard to remain as an A-grader in the game as it is, let alone having to deal with thyroid problems as well.

What I do know is that he was vital in our 2021 campaign and that his first 1/4 in the GF was immense.

A big part of me feels that weโ€™ve seen the best of Salo and seeing what trade currency he might bring isnโ€™t necessarily a bad thing.

The sort of player we need to move on, if we can get something reasonable back whilst he still has currency. If we donโ€™t move on it, and other similar players, weโ€™ll hit a massive cliff. Hawthorn has done it perfectly and now are probably closer to a flag than us - who would have ever thought.

What has it been, four years in the bottom four for Hawthorn?

They've had their tails up for 8 weeks and I'm open to the idea that they really have turned a corner, BUT with their next six being Geelong (away), Freo, Collingwood, Crows (away), Giants (away) and Carlton, I think I'll wait at least that long before I start setting them as a perfect rebuild role model or imagining they are anywhere close to a flag.

Christian Salem is a good player who sometimes brings out elite moments and elite games, and very very rarely has a stinker. We'd be wise to keep him and he's a realistic part of our coming premierships. Even from the most ruthless perspective, his value to us is far beyond his cost in salary cap space or potential draft picks.

Maybe it is worth noting that Hawthorn would probably be one of the clubs interested if Salem did become available, given his overall consistency, ball-use, defensive effectiveness and calm head would be valuable in a young team. Maybe we could swap him for Sam Frost?

This a remarkably intelligent thread, other than the clown who saidย  "overrated".

So much soย  ย I signed back on board to point out that Viney was " cooked" some years backย  because of the Clubs appalling record of handling injuries.ย

Jack probably doesn't have a long future even now but gee he's come good .

There's no reason Saloย  can't get back to his A-ย  best and hold a new backline together or set up some forward thrusts.

Petty would help with that as well bte , when TMac retiresย

Given that MFC only have one true generational player on their books, surely theyย  keep all the A's ( plus or minus) as long as possible.

I' d trade the whole FD before Salo

Heโ€™s not elite, good footballer, tough & creative when fit, when heโ€™s struggling looks slow & kicks the ball 30 metresย

AMW might take his half back role off him

Fully agree with the yesterday's man label. AFL teams full of players much better than him now. Good player and contributor in the past but the game has moved on now.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFLโ€™s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.ย

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

Iโ€™ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we wonโ€™t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything youโ€™d like to ask or say below and weโ€™ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics youโ€™d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
