One of the best CHB we ever had became a great forward.Go Neita

Wayne Carey to this day believes Neita was the best backmen he has ever played on. I can remember the trend years ago where promising forwards started in the back pocket and learnt forward craft from behind the ball. Walls and Maclure started down back before moving to centre half forward

What are you talking about ? Where are you getting these stats from ? He kicked 36 goals at VFL level in 2022 not 42.16. He did not kick 6.2 in his second game that was against north Melbourne in round 7

can you read?

i said he kicked 42 goals at vfl level in 22-23

@picket fence any more elaboration on how the guys went?

specifically Sestan as I see the practice match he seemed to have really changed physically, and he has a lot of talent.

Hopefully we have some fwds coming through to knock spargo etc out.

Also I dont think Laurie is really afl level

Makes sense when you phrase it like that but not when you say he kicked 42 goals in 2022 AND 2023

again totally hope im wrong, i just cant see it, I see Michael Newton vibes

I'll take Newton vibes just don't mention the other bloke.

Hawkins took around 4 or 5 seasons to really make it. Gawn although a ruckman took 4 or 5 also.

JVR is an exception to the rule. No many can do what he did at that age. Comparisons are unfair.

Jeffersen needs at least another preseason under his belt.

Given our number of tall forwards at Casey its good to give Jeffersen a go down back.

As Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over expecting a different result.

You just have to mix things up a bit.

Jefferson has talent, but little aggression or intensity.  The bad news is that's the hardest trait to instill into a player.  Further bad news is that it's the most important trait for a key forward.

Defence is a far easier position for someone with his DNA.

I'm dubious that he'll ever make an AFL key forward.

I know those with red and blue goggles have conniptions about such views.

i watched most games at casey when at home, and imo i dont think jeffo has it. hes quite lazy at 2nd efforts. this could come with maturity, but this is a make or break year for me. if he cant get in front of josh schache, then you have serious issues.

Then why did the club give him an extention then??

Dubious after one season? Very interesting take😂

Juice Newton played 28 games for 35 goals, um stacks up quite well I would have thought! Underated and underdeveloped, typical Melbourne

I don't mind Jefferson playing KPB at Casey, we're not flush with up and coming tall defenders. Adams and Turner - that's it.  May and Tomlinson have use-by dates and TMac will be gone next year.   KPB succession is important.

At Casey we've currently got BBB, Fullarton, Verrall and KFW (or Schache) forward.  That's why it makes sense to play TMac back and it gets pretty tall up there if you try to fit Jefferson in too

If Petty can stay fit and we can re-sign him then we're pretty well set with him and JVR up forward, and we have Fullarton and Verrall as ruck-forward options.  Provided we can recoup the Gus salary cap we should be able to make very good offers to Petty and JVR.

So it sounds like TMac is preparing to cover May in case of injury and no one else is AFL ready. Our stocks past best 23-24 are thin

Because they may see something? I dont know you would have to ask them. Im just an armchair supporter

Just now, Roost it far said:

What we really need is Adam’s to make the step to AFL. That’s my wish for this year.

he looks like he has a bit of potential. another that needs to fill out though.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
